My hike improved my health a lot. 50 lb weight loss. Better mental health because of the accomplishment since I am in no way athletic.

Thank you for this. I'm seriously impressed by the fact that you've redone the video and also how quickly you've got it up on KZread. I haven't commented often, but when I have I think I've forgotten to say every single time how much I admired you for keeping going through the rain and mud at the start of you through hike.

Great info, especially for older hikers like myself. Wouldn't mind walking the AT, but need to get into better shape and your vids are helping. Tried doing some of your training exercises a few months back and couldn't so joined a gym and now getting on top of nutrition. Dr. Rhonda Patrick had a vid saying Magnesium would be in the top three of supplements.

That was nice of you to re-do this. I actually had no trouble understanding the original one, but it was still nice.

I thru hiked in 2016. I was 57. It took 18 months for my knees to get back to total function. I really thought I had wrecked them. I couldn’t kneel and if I did get to the ground I couldn’t kneel on my knees and I had to pull myself up off the ground with my arms because my knees just didn’t work. Sookie 2016

Thanks for the redo. I enjoyed the first video much more. But then I m not a complainer. This seems sterile . But maybe every one can enjoy now. My wife and I are from North Carolina and had a wonderful RV trip to your area about 4 years ago. Canadians were extremely friendly and helpful.

We treeplanters call that "Christmas Toe" because from the time the season is over in August, it takes until Xmas before you can feel your big toe again 😂

Wow, this is so good. I experienced everything you mention. I would get a quart of O.J. every time I went into town. Nerve damage I have been worried about the numb toes. It has been 2 years and I still feel numb at the ends of my toes. Watch out for the hiker hunger, I gained aback all of my weight, plus. I just wish it was muscle.

After listening to your other video on wrecking your body. I listened to another 4 part videos on nutrition from sort of a scientific studies. Sounds as though fats and protein with vitamin supplements is the better diet for hiking with electrolytes. Then in evening carbs, protein and electrolytes some coffee for a recovery quicker. Nuts seemed to be good. Whey protein and collagen helps body perform better and recover. I’m carrying protein foods with some fats and carbs. I will try whey protein and a collagen to boost supplement in my foods in powder form. Hydration is essential from start to finish. Still must be careful not to over hydrate which can cause health problems. Just need to watch your pee color. If pee is dark more water if it’s clear back off water. I came to the conclusion our ancestors knew trail mix or gorp was great. The use of pemmican is another great food with its fats, meat and fruit. I’m going to try and make some pemmican in small bars or cubes. Their are some foods I want to cook on trail that require some fats. I’ve mixed up soups with meat, vegetables with flavoring that I can add collagen and whey protein which I can soak until the dehydrated food is ready. The pemmican might be handy to plop in the pan to fry up my powdered eggs. I’m going to try shepherds pie as well. I enjoy cooking and don’t mind a little cleanup. Not everyday we’ll see how it goes. Today I’m preparing my gorp mostly nuts some chocolate and peanut butter with dried sour cherries and dried cranberries. Also I don’t think hikers drink enough water on the trail. Drinking water alone is not good it must contain electrolytes. Thank you for your video it was very informative. I must find the other 4 video series which I saved to watch again. Thank you again 😊 some trail bars are better than others nutritionally but I’m not going down that exhaustive road. Hahaha 🤣 I like the pine wood boards. Im no doctor! I know I’ll be in pain constantly. I want the best chance to complete the trail. I have an allergy to gluten however I can work around it. Enjoy! Now I can get rid of some of the bacon grease in my fridge. Hahaha 🤣

100% better and the information was valuable. It was so awesome that you did your bloodwork before and after and saw the changes. I often wondered how the trail alters your health. Thank you for redoing the video, that was extremely kind and thoughtful of you. Love your content and appreciate you sharing your experiences and wisdom. Happy Holidays to all and again, congratulations on completing such an epic journey 👏👏👏

Most of thru hiking is mental any healthy person should be able to hike twenty mile days but to do it for months is hard at some point on every thru hike you say what the hell am I doing out here.

As a long distant bike rider/tourist, and some one who used to long distant hiking, I found out that the human body needs 3000 to 5000 calories a day, when being extremely active. As for food, Protein in the evening, so your body can absorb it, and carbs during the day. Yes, Peanuts and Peanut butter, are great. As for the knee problem, an elliptical stair stepper is your friend, for training. Also, seems like you just hiked too many miles a day. But each to there own.

I really don’t see any major health problems in here, with all due respect. I was expecting some horrible story on how you ended up hospitalized or in a coma 😂😅 but you are fine, just higher colesterol, hairy legs, numb toes and no upper body muscles 💁🏼‍♀️ that’s not too bad.
