Definitely one of the best videos on the topic out there! Thank you so much for sharing, you’re doing a great service to the community. Especially the squatting tutorial is unique and welcome. Do you have a routine, or a typical time you go number two when through hiking?

Hello! I really enjoyed watching your videos and this one was great. My husband and I are really thinking about doing something like this but maybe using a motorcycle or something so that we can both hike together. One quick question: about how long did it take your husband to get to where he parked your van where you guys were going to end your hike each day? We’re just trying to generally think about how much time that sort of shuttling back-and-forth would take. Thank you so much for any information like this that you have.

  • @Summit-Sam

It would usually take about an hour to get to the end destination on most days.

"Monkey butt" 🤣I had not heard that one before but totally understand that chafing would be on a top 10 list. First time I did a 10 mile run I found out about runners nipple and why I saw guys with tape on their chest. Nothing worse than getting blood on your new running jersey 😭

Mosquitos, flies, wasps and hornets are just so bad! [And ticks in their season]. I think the wasps & hornets were especially bad for the Sobos this year. The wetness is so bad, both for breeding bugs & for having wet feet & clothes! I'm not a fan of snakes either.

Helpful. Thank you. I thought you'd put being soaked through every day for two months right at the top because I can't imagine anything more disspiriting, but to learn that the bugs were even worse - shudder.

Thank you for this! A very enjoyable video! I think a person's view of the Whites is influenced by where they are from. The people from the North are used to that type of stuff and take it in stride, but Southerners like me are more used to the more gentle trails of the south and have a harder time adjusting to the increased difficulty level. Not that they are gentle, but they are MORE gentle than New Hampshire and Maine.

People are absolutely the best part of the trail. My best friends are hikers. One lives in Kentucky and has visited me in Oklahoma a couple of times. The other lives in Virginia and I've gone on vacations with her and her husband. We talk almost every day. Four others have stopped on their way through and spent the night at my place. I can't wait to make more best friends this year.

For me, it’s not always speed as much as stride. I can match my friends step for step and still fall behind. I imagine it may take you two steps to match one of Jeff’s. There’s not much to be done about it except I am trying to stretch and increase my stride. Not sure how much it will help. At some point it doesn’t feel natural.

On my first two attempts at hiking the AT, I hiked alone...intentionally. I would always wonder about the hike partners I saw out there, and how they made it work. This next attempt, I'm going to be more open to hiking with a partner, but I still worry about all these things you mentioned. I think the hike will be more memorable and enjoyable sharing it with another person, but it seems like the match would need to be near perfect for it to work. It's so hard out there, anyway, with all of the other challenges. Adding relationship problems seems like it would be extra hard. I appreciate the tips in this video as well as your insight. If you have any other thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them!

Agree with the others that this is a good video. I could not imagine hiking with my girlfriend. She would be great in chase vehicle and photo me crawling in. Pep talk. Joke at you while feeding you . That kind of thing. Some people are I'm not doing it but I'll help you.

I've often wondered how many people go with their partner to the AT because they are insecure, (jealous), about their significant other being on trail for 5-6 months with members of the opposite sex. I do know one guy that ended up divorced shortly after returning, he vlogged the whole way and was quite candid about things. I guess his wife was upset about the attention he got while up there. I applaud you for being able to do the couple thing. I'm divorced these days but I imagine I'd of ended up in prison had we gone on a thru-hike together, LOL. Just kidding. Good video. <3
