How to Vlog a Thru-Hike | Appalachian Trail Thru Hike 2023 NOBO
This video is sponsored by Anxious Vloggers Anonymous.
In this video I share my experiences, goals, rules, gear, tips, and tricks for vlogging the Appalachian Trail. While these are just my experiences from the AT, much of the same can be said for other thruhikes, hikes, and outdoor adventures.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Would you please consider an extension to this video where you do a walkthrough of an editing session so absolute beginners can get an idea of how you piece together a weeks worth of videos and clips (and how you chose what to include and what not)
The hair tie thing is genius. I’m always carrying a hair tie now for that. Omg and no extra weight!
Thank you for sharing this bit of your craft. I really appreciate the minimalist approach to the process, and the simplicity and clarity of your narration. There are a lot of folks out there with drones, seemingly camera crews, and studio editors - your approach is a refreshing counterpoint to that trend. Also, kudos on the accomplishment and completing the AT. It is inspiring. Thx
Thank you for the very informative information. You were correct in saying there is very little out there that helps a NuB when it comes to creating and posting content. Enjoy your thru hiking again as hiking is never boring and full of “Brand New, Unused experiences”
A bit remise............enjoyed your journey on the AT. Weekly format is great. Have enjoyed your follow up videos. Not a "VLOGer" but your insight have very important aspects. #1.......enjoy the journey. VLOG is secondary.
I appreciate your after the trail videos very much. It's so much different to others who upload their exciting stuff and then disapear from the screen, without sharing any reflection on it. I think you've found a piece of passion ;-) Many vloggers live for their vlogs and surely have lots of pressure to produce enough interesting daily content. You have found the right balance for your personal AT experience and the parts of it you wanted to share with the world. I watched each vlog and enjoyed the simplicity. The simpler the technology, the greater the challenge... Eventually it's the cooperation of the producer, writer, regisseur, actor and editor, who use their skills and technology to form a result that reaches the viewer. Each of them is you :-) Thank you for all the hints and food for thought on vlogging!
I think the system you used worked perfectly for you. I so enjoyed watching everyone of your videos. From start to finish. You did a great job.
Great tips! Thank you. I'm sorry I didn't find your channel sooner.
I really enjoy your videos! They are informative, to the point and the focus you have on nature is great! You are a great communicator! I’m sure anyone planning on hiking the AT will find your information helpful! I always feel excited when I see you have a new post!
I like your easy going and laid back style! Very informational and entertaining. You point out the cutest objects! Bridges, nature items and animals! Love it all.
That's some smart thinking with the hairband tripod idea. Thanks.
Thanks for this. Although i have yet to do a backpacking trip of thousands of miles (longest so far was 165 mi around the TRT), I feel like I do enough that vlogging might be worth a try. It always seemed to be a bit of a chore. Glad to see you've found a way to do this..
Just saw you on Trail Tales. It's the first episode I ever got through to the end. You are more interesting than most of his guests. Figured I's subscribe. Looking forward to your PCT hike.
Really awesome meeting you at crater lake last june. love your videos! My son made me a KZread video of my AT section hike as a Christmas gift and you got a shout out :)
Fabulous! Keeping your vlog authentic. That is the way I'd describe all your vlogs as well as thoughtful, reflective, respectful and honest. Thanks for sharing.

I absolutely agree with your description of her vlogs...shows a lot of wisdom and character !!!
Thanks for the info
Love your channel
Great video! Thank you for doing this.
Thanks for the tips. In 2019, I used lightening flash drives, but for this year's hike I'm using my phone and an iPad which have different connecters. One is USB-C, the other is Lightening. I've ordered two dongles that connect USB-A to each of those other ends, so I can use less expensive, garden-variety flash drives. I've downloaded the Canva app, but it looks like it does nothing without an internet connection. I suppose I'll have to save thumbnail editing for town time. Also sad to hear that apparently, the internet speeds along the trail aren't any better than they were five years ago. Thanks for the videos- I followed you and several others all the way this season.
Love your channel! I also love your hair tie trick to hold your iPhone. Invention is the mother of necessity!
Love the walk talks in the woods! 🥾🙌🏼
Great video! Thanks! Love the tripod hack! Do you have a recommendation on a storage device now that you’re off trail? I need to find one before we leave in March. And you’re so right! Vlogging and editing are a tremendous amount of work. So appreciate all who have shared with us. 🙏🏼 Thank you!

I think a micro SD card and transfer device is a good way to go with lots of storage. Maybe just do plenty of research on which brand to invest in for that transfer piece. The SD card is fairly standard, but the device that connects it to your phone should be consistent.
Thank you for the video & enjoy the rest of your weekend
This video was incredibly helpful. I plan on thru hiking this year and have been really thinking about my intentions with vlogging. Your transparency has really helped me decide my plan. Thank you!
I always get excited to see a new vid from you, A!! And I’m agreeing with the other person who suggested a part two to the vid, expanding on the actual process of piecing everything together. We newbies would much rather learn from YOU than any other YT video. For a low key, low tech vlog, you do an amazing job! Much love, many hugs! ❤
Omg, the hair-tie tripod is brilliant! Your weekly Saturday morning videos worked perfectly for me. It was you, the flora and fauna, no BS. I thoroughly enjoyed every episode, thank you so much TC! 😊 Btw, nice tea mug, I got a pair for Christmas. Take care ✌️
So thoughtful, and helpful. Thank you
Make more videos yo , saw you on Kyle's channel
I started following when you were uploading preparations for the AT. I love all the helpful tips as well as the hiking videos and sharing your friends music! I am always a fan of discovering new bands.
Thanks for sharing your insight! I plan on filming some of my thru hike this year and am trying to decide how I want to balance it all. As much as I want to plan it all out I think I'm just going to have to see how it goes once I get on trail
Thank you for sharing this. I plan to vlog as well And really did not want to do a daily. I feel that would take away from what I was out there for. I have been really considering the once a week also.
Not a vlogger here but watched many. Creators often look awkward until they get up to speed. Before you know it they're comfortable in front of camera and video quality improves. So if you suck at first 🤮 know that this will probably pass with practice.⏳📸
I am not able to find lyrics to Sonic Bloom. Is that something you could provide or point me to? Thank you.
Are you considering the PCT?

For one day, yes! There are lots of other trails calling my name first though.
Tip one: Less face, more trail.
