NEW Abarth 500E: The LOUDEST Electric Car! 4K
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We might be looking at the first proper electric hot hatch in the form of the Abarth 500e. And we're hearing it too, because this car uses a huge subwoofer on the outside to mimic the noise of the petrol car. And it's LOUD! Alex Legouix takes a closer look (and a listen).

We hated fake noises on cars with actual exhausts and now this is just worse still. When we went from horses to cars we didn’t need the cars to sound like horses.

For the fake engine sound they should make it a small child making car noises, or probably more appropriate, the 'My Little Pony' cartoon theme song. I didn't think there would be a way to make the 500 worserer, but Fiat have managed it.

So you take out the ICE to put an Electric motor to then add fake ICE noises... I don't know, if you are going to put noises rather make something sound kind of electric, ditching one of the attractive points of abarths, the engine and the sound, making it way heavier and then adding fake combustion engine noises seems wrong to me.

As long as you can turn the music off don't have an issue with the engine fakery - for me it's about the experience and tricking your brain into feeling rewarded when you are heavy with your right foot of which sound is a large part of it.
I guess for tuning EVs there is not much room for improvement left, the whole battery/motors/BMS is a whole package designed and optimized to work with each other and its not easy to just put in a bigger motor (or tune it) to get more horse power. You can tune it a little bit so you sacrifice range for more power but there is nothing drastic to improve. Perhaps that's why they decided to make it make ICU noises, to stand out and be intentionally obnoxious. Isn't that the reason why people by Fiat 500 Abarths?

Blatantly false. Abarth is just a sub brand of Fiat. This is not tuning this just OEM Warranty covered spec. The lawyers and sales team at Fiat have blocked the engineers from having any fun. This could easily be as powerful as a Bolt EV which is 200hp and 266lb/ft (360nm), it is limited by FWD traction after all.
@Neojhun
Жыл бұрын
@@quintennijs6138 Factually wrong. BEV drive trains have massive potential for more power as long the Stock Motors does apply a high C Rating load on the battery. At 150hp 111kw from a 42kWh battery that is an absurdly LOW stress C-Rating of 2.64C. Such a battery should easily do 4C that is equivalent of 168kW ~ 225hp. Like Turbo Tuning it involving removing resistance bottlenecks in the distribution and having adequate cooling to maintain higher performance. BEV Tuning is very much modding & tuning a Turbo engine car. Stop spreading you erroneous assumptions. These are engineering facts.
@Colby_0-3_IRL_and_title_fights

@@Neojhun You're absolutely clueless about both OEM and aftermarket. You obviously know nothing about electronics because even the least knowledgeable person wouldn't try to list a C rating as reasons a car can be tuned. You realise that the battery and motors are two separate components right? Then why are you lumping them together. You're absolutely delusional and clueless. There's a reason electric car tuning hasn't caught on other than ripping out the entire propulsion system of a car and swapping it with something else.
I think they should have put fake noise but like electric/star-wars stuff as they do in the Porsche Taycan⚡️

I’m glad the new electric one still makes me smile at first sight. I think that noise is a bit overkill in the sense they’ve tried a bit too hard, but if you drive it and makes you smile, then it’s job done.

I like it, I have soft spot for 500’s especially Abarth versions, but the fake noise is a bit silly.
I wouldn’t mind if they just amplified the ev motor sound. My ev makes interesting sounds but you can barely hear it. Only noticeable on an empty road with no traffic and the windows down. (This is before they added pedestrian speakers).
If I see someone driving round in a hi-vis, 152 bhp, electric fiat 500 playing fake engine noises I will just laugh.

How much does it weigh? What a shambles that noise is.
One of the reasons why people buy EV is because it is silent especially cars with proper noice dampener. Also why the heck didn't Abarth put in at least a 150kWh electric motor. A syn r motor is just fine Abarth doesn't even need to use the pm syn r motor to reduce costs

Actually, until now the sound a car makes is part of how you control a car. The faster a car goes the more noise it makes, meaning that you can actually hear if you're driving too fast. You have three indicators to how fast you're going, visually (the world outside your car), the noise it makes and what your speedometer tells you. Take the sound away and changes are you will be driving faster than before.
Hate to say it but as a petrol abarth owner I just from comments made to myself from other abarth owners think this will slowly become a brand of the past and solely a specification rather than a brand in itself as I've yet to hear any petrol abarth owner thinking of buying one

Have to hear the external noise myself... But I wonder why they fake a engine noise and not create a fururistic noise like in the Taycan
The fake noise will really appeal to 14 year old boys, can't see many of them buying one though.
I absolutely love my Fiat 500e and have recently tested driven the Abarth 500e, it’s a fantastic little car. I’ve now ordered one
Any word on whether that noise can be turned on/off to suit your mood? I scoot around in an EV as my daily because it's quiet and refined. Only taken by yobbish tendencies occasionally and even then I would rather make the vroom-vroom noises myself thank you. haha

Needs a bigger battery for a start I have a 595 and i like it very much but I also have a kona ev 64kw for my daily commute 595 for weekends but I would love one of these to replace both but stats don't cut it for me range too small top speed too low
Wish they had waited until the next generation where the battery tech could be improved. Don’t think it’s good enough to wear the scorpion badge!
love the look
It would've been better if they made it sound like a Formula E racer which would fit the anti-social objective of ICE Abarth's without making it sound stupid, who on Earth thought that people would accept a full fake "exhaust system" when people hate the fake engine noises modern ICE cars have

Style over Substance?
155 mile range is poor, considering this will be practically unacheivable.....and if you take into account that FIAT themselves have said that if you use the heater on the standard 500e, the range will be reduced by around 40%. So that leaves well under 100 miles of range. So we have what is, in practice, a 2+2 that will cost well in excess of £30k that makes a ridiculous noise and can't really take you anywhere but on the weekly shop......which probably won't fit in it anyway.

Gorgeous little car. If I'm gonna buy a second car for city commute, I don't see what can beat this one in my book. And I'm ok with the sound. It's obvious that the future is silent, so it's either fake sound or no sound. And I'd rather hear something when I go fast. That’s hilarious!
Unfortunately this also shows how having an electric motor is also limiting, more power, less range, the power unit is actually the same so its just a computer/software update. Essentially can buy the normal-E and in the future just get a software update to do the same. It's just not worth the extra money anymore. 'upgraded disc brakes' for a car that only goes 1 second faster...

I'm so glad I grew up in an age when I could fill my 400 bhp sierra cosworth with .V power and flames would shoot out of the exhaust. All that money for a car with poor range and dismal performance..the best bit about the 595 or the 695 was the noise ,the boost and the feel from the punchy little 1.4 engine. How much fun will that be trying to drive to the nurburgring to do a weekends track day ,your going to spend most of your life plugged in to the network.
Please dont leave Rory!
Not bad with the fake sound but missing a lot of features the Glydsphere system has.

I like everything about this fun Fiat.... But I would definitely want to switch off the silly fake noises
Design wise it's a big Win IMO. Just give it more Power! 0-100 in 7 sec is just to slow for an EV. Bring it down to 5 seconds, and make it cheaper. Also i'm not a fan of fake engine noises. If at all at least give us the option to make it sound like a space ship.
