New 2023 Mercedes S Class DIGITAL LIGHT explained - you can even project a movie!

This is a review of the new 2023 Mercedes S Class digital light.
The revolutionary headlamp technology DIGITAL LIGHT (optional extra) allows completely new functions, e.g. the projection of marking aids or warning symbols onto the road ahead. In each headlamp, DIGITAL LIGHT has a light module with three extremely powerful LEDs with light that is refracted and directed by 1.3 million micro-mirrors. The resolution is therefore more than 2.6 million pixels per vehicle.
The optional DIGITAL LIGHT system enters series production for the first time at Mercedes-Benz. This makes completely new assistance functions possible1:
- Warning of recognised roadworks by projecting an excavator symbol onto the road surface
-Aiming a spotlight at pedestrians detected at the roadside as a warning
-Traffic lights, stop signs or no-entry signs are pointed out by projecting a warning symbol onto the road surface
-Assistance on narrow road lanes (roadworks) by projecting guidelines onto the road surface.
In each headlamp, DIGITAL LIGHT has a light module with three extremely powerful LEDs with light that is refracted and directed by 1.3 million micro-mirrors. The resolution is therefore more than 2.6 million pixels per vehicle. This allows highly precise light distribution. It makes Highbeam Assist over 100 times more precise then 84-pixel light when excluding oncoming traffic or road signs from the light beam. Light/shadow graduations and the light distribution of all the other adaptive light functions are also realised with considerably more precision, optimising illumination by e.g. fog light, motorway light or city light. Thanks to LED technology, the new S-Class has also taken a leap forward in its interior lighting: Mercedes-Benz has now realised interactive interior lighting for the first time.
The active ambient lighting (optional) supplements ambient lighting (standard equipment) with an additional layer of light. It is integrated into the driving assistance systems, and is able to reinforce alerts visually. This also makes corresponding feedback possible for the comfort systems. This applies to the climate control system or the 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant.
More than 50 electronic components in the new S-Class can be updated with new software over-the-air (OTA). These include the entire MBUX infotainment system, the driver display, the driving assistance systems and the MULTIBEAM LED and DIGITAL LIGHT lighting systems. This technology saves the customer time, as he/she does not need to visit a workshop for this purpose. Furthermore, the vehicle remains up to date throughout its lifecycle and is equipped for new features. The explicit consent of the user is always a precondition for OTA updates.
The resolution of DIGITAL LIGHT per vehicle is over 2.6 million pixels.

Brilliant engineering. Seems S-Class is back on top. In past it was possible to buy a bulb at the gas station, today you have to buy a beamer in next electronic market.
That pedestrian detection looks like a target for your missile

UK is poorly served, by Mercedes; and I'm going to have to look elsewhere, for a decent GT (the S-Class Coupe demise was just about the final straw. The GT was no match). No decent Coupe options, no S-Class rear-wheel steering, no digital light...to name but a few.

@@AnthonyKellett That is weird. Here in Australia, of all places, I _think_ we have all S-Class features. Our 'builder' site has three coupe and two convertible models also available, no S-Class coupe though, don't know if that exists anywhere.

@@hellsgate09 - Very strange, yes. I always assumed the omission of rear-wheel steering was due it being uneconomic or inconvenient to adapt it to right-hand drive cars, but that seems to be negated, by your disclosure. That said, you should double check that feature is available. It is an optional item, in any event. As for coupes, they are available for the lesser vehicles (C-Class, E-Class and so on), but nothing at the top end. The GT Coupe is available, in the UK, but the 63s has a typical range of just over 300 miles (with a 10-litre reserve); the hybrid version not much more and a battery that decreases the already modest boot space by 70 litres (though that's an issue with all GT Coupes, to be fair) and an all-electric range of 8 miles!?, which doesn't seem worth the effort of carrying the dead weight of the batteries, after it runs out. Also, the side windows are strangely high and small, which is irritating, and the ride is too stiff. In short, it's no S-Class Coupe equivalent. Perhaps most people's 'tours' are not so 'Grand'? I think the salient point is that if Mercedes is abandoning the fairly unique offerings it had - speed, comfort, practicality - and, worse still, omitting some unique technology from UK offerings - then what is its USP? "Hmmm... Mercedes GT63 Coupe or Bentley Continental GT or even a Ferrari Portofino M, at a push... let me think...??" P.S. Love, and endorse, the moniker!

Can’t way to play Crysis on the Mercedes bens headlight
теперь и фары умные, но вот интересно - подъезжая к перекрестку машина понимает, что там надо уступать дорогу, но не понимает, что надо убрать свет который ослепит водителей которые могут ехать сбоку. Еще не понимаю зачем засвечивать обочину выше 1.5 метра от земли, в этой системе есть очень гибкая регулировка зоны освещения, можно было бы поберечь глаза прохожих которые после этого адаптивного освещения которое их подсветит человек перестанет видеть на пару секунд. Также вначале видео видно, что в некоторых режимах есть очень резкая светотеневая граница которую логично было бы размывать т.к человек не может воспринимать объекты которые находятся выше границы засветки.

Car design looks so simple and normal, need abnormal design and looks

And yet Mini keeps producing headlights which is outright dangerous and illegal. The glare of Mini headlights are unbelievable strong. They should bad all Minis until they fix it.
F so now not only monitor/ TV /projector have dead pixel, now cars headlight can also have dead pixel.......

You only need a few zones and a very good camera. This full HD led projector is way too expensive for what it does. Overrated.
Yeah looks awesome but as we all know all these things are so unreliable and expensive ... if somehow they stop working and they do , the cost of repair and service is beyond imagination ! You pay the price of a 2nd hand car for a head light :)))

You need more hands on experience. Mercedes mechanically steering headlights are reliable from 10 years ago. This system has no moving parts so it should be even better.

They don't cater to people who buy second hand cars after the warranty expires. First hand car buyers have it covered under warranty and sell them for a new one when it expires.

Mercedes needs to hire me so I can better explain the features of new products in plain English. I'd say "when these headlights break they will cost you a liver, or a kidney to get fixed" Then people be like "oh I understand now, thanks guy"
Mercedes is suffering from good body designing, I advice Mercedes to look out for unique striking designs because the new designs are hurrible
Thousand dollar headlights... Turns yellow/hazy after 6 months.
Not even if it's made of diamonds I would like it, they ruined 2 beautiful cars designs, the S Class and the E Class both look horrible now. Mercedes please fire those who authorized those designs. I am a Mercedes fanboy all my life these both car designs don't fit to be in the Mercedes line up.
