New 2019 Method: Headlight Restoration WITHOUT Sanding - Only video you need to watch

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish :
amzn.to/38iwfTG
BUFF PAD:
amzn.to/2AlTeAY
I was very skeptical about the product when
I went to restore my headlights on my 2002 Honda Civic because of how cloudy and faded the they were. I was thinking about doing the wet sand technique that ChrisFix shows in his video but it seems like a lot of work and since I'm not able to do a clear coat right now because of how cold it is here in Canada i thought I would do this headlight repair just to tie me over because I didn't want to go through another winter with dangerous headlight. I am super happy with the results and would defiantly recommend this to someone who doesn't feel like doing all the work of wet sanding and putting clear coat. This method is fool proof.

I don't like sanding also. I did my headlights using Macguires Headlight repair kit. Then top it off with 2 coats of Macguires protective headlights coating. You only have to place the Protective coating like once a year. I also wanted to place 3M protective film (UV protection) and for an additional protective layer but i did not buy it yet. My headlight turned out a lot better than they were. It is very easy to do, your saving lots of money, No sanding needed but the Macguires buffer pad that i used was rough or a bit gritty and it is best to use a drill and the whole procedure will go faster. I was very impressed.

I've done this and it does work amazing. Just make sure you run the drill at a lower speed and keep it moving as flat as possible, otherwise the heat from the friction can melt the plastic. Definitely use a high quality UV wax after.

I didn’t have a polishing pad, and I did it with a small rug by hand! Did two coats and it didn’t take me more then 15 minutes per light! The result was pretty much as same as Yours and prior polishing my lights if not worse, they weren’t better then Yours for sure! And yes! I sought that method on “sweet project cars”! Many thanks to Him, but thanks to You too :-)

Hi Danny, Nice video out there, I have to say that when your skip steps that are well known in headlights restoration(even paint correction), you'll end up working against yourself. You skipped wetsanding, it is 5-10 minutes job, that will take off the yellowish coat and you'll have to buff it off untill full clarity with any product that you feel comfortable. Keep it up man!

Fyi I've always done it this way, if you're gonna do it this way always make sure that you keep the pad moving and you really don't have to mask anything if using McGuires mag and aluminum polish as it is a polish and will clean the paint as well so it won't damage it.

Actually the foam pads would have worked better..also if you had a side handle on your drill it would have been easier to control.. Basically you want the pad to be flat against the headlight and not using the edge of the pad try and keep the pad square with the surface as much as you can..it performs better.. but for a quick job it turned out really well..

Plastix, other plastic polishing compounds all work essentially the same, removing and polishing the surface oxidation without the usually excessive steps of deeper sanding. Worst case is it isn't effective - so what? Basic concept, just as in dealing with painted finishes, is use the least abrasive material that provides the desired result. Treating with the desired sealant, done. If it fails or seems to degrade faster, just retreat, and you at least avoid sanding away all the original factory UV protection. I have done this entirely by hand, and while it might be possible to distinguish a machine buffed result, the functional result of restoring a factory headlight focal pattern is 100%.

My headlights are pitted really bad, but I don’t want to sand too much because I don’t know how thick the plastic is. I have compounded and polished them to near perfection with a restoration kit and applied the UV sealant included and it made them less transparent and probably worse than if I had left them alone.

i've only had luck with mothers mag polish, those headlight or plastic polishes don't work well. it has compound and wax at the same time.

I definitely have better luck with the Turtle Wax Metal Polish and its a little cheaper. I guess depends on how bad your lenses are if you need to sand or not. This would not work for the times I have had to utilize the process to restore headlights. Did my Taurus and my Focus and ended up having to go from 400, 600, 800, 1200, 3000 grit before using a polisher to do the rest.

I just do it by hand using the same microfiber you use and get the same result and wax it as a final strokes.

@@Daniel.Kovacs it depends on many factors. The quality of the plastic, climate, how many times they’ve been restored and even the bulbs used and how often they are used. I say just spend the $6 on a coating and call it a day. It’ll last a year and a can is good for like 6 uses.

That Mothers polish must be pretty good stuff what is the cutting level on that thing? 4? 5? (compared to Meguiars M205 polish) I don't recommend clear coat cause it's more prone to chips and you will see more of the appearance of the damage. It's better to leave headlights with nothing and just polish every once a while for cleansing / refresh. It's similar to washing your face every few days. It makes you feel good doesn't it when your face is clean?
