    @@myrddinemrys1332 yes he was, he was psychologically marked, always afraid that he might be next,and end up just like his parents. and the date thing, its like the "ides of march" depending on the calander system, and a few other things, there are 2 or even 3 days both could be, besides its not like he was born at the stroke of midnight, the only reason he went after harry specifically, was they were both half bloods.

    @@stapuft the psychological thing is bull because it was Voldemort's followers not Voldie himself that broke his parents and it was his grandmother that did most of the psychological damage to him. As for the date you'd clearly go for the one closest (so close that it's the actual day) to the time given in the prophecy which was "as the 7th month dies" not "slightly before the 7th month dies", choosing Neville would have just been an unnecessary risk that he was wrong. Not to mention comparing it to the Ides of March is bull as they have a definite date, the 15th of March. Of course you also have the fact that Neville didn't beat the Dark Lord in the slightest in confrontations except for Nagini. The hat burning being because of Harry's sacrifice.

    I regularly play cartography games on Seterra.online. Things like finding islands, peninsulas, mountains etc. Whenever I am supposed to find something with a boring English name on the map, I try Australia because everything there has a boring English name.

    There are two places in the US named Townville, one in PA one in SC, although they are too small to be towns as one is a borough and one is an unincorporated community. (The one in Pennsylvania is named after Noah Town, so that’s similar to how the Australian city got its name, but as far as I can tell the one in South Carolina isn’t named after anyone, and is just called that for no apparent reason)

    Could "Neville" mean "born in town" (Ne Ville) rather than New town/Newton? That would distinguish them from somebody born in the countryside, for instance and may have originally been a nickname.

    @@mathewritchie while not commenting on conception per se, Florence Nightingale and her sister Parthenope were both named after the cities of their birth (Florence and Naples respectively). So yes, there is a basis for naming children after the circumstances of their birth (or possibly conception).

    Growing up reading the HP books, Neville's name (alongside many others) is changed to Marcel in the Dutch translation. At everyone else that read the books where it changed, how is Neville called in your language? Quite curious

    @@wariolandgoldpiramid Just to name a few. Hermione becomes Hermelien, Cedric -> Carlo, Moaning Myrtle -> Jammerende Jenny, and most second names are also changed, where it would be better to fit a younger audience that can actually read it I guess.

    Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh in Vietnamese is translated as 胡志明市 in Chinese, Ho Chi Minh City in English, & Ho Chi Minh Ville in French. "Thành Phố" in Vietnamese is "城市",or shortened as "市" in Chinese, which is translated as "city" in English, & "ville" in French. Ville from French could be translated as either "city" or "town" in English.

    Matilda sounds like a morphed version of an old Nose female name written gun or war in it. Looking it up, it comes from high German, so it's of germanic origin. I guess that checks out.

    As a non-anglo , I find english names really odd anyway. I couldnt Imagine an obvious Last Name like "Jackson" or names after occupations Like "Hunter" , "Tanner", "Taylor" , "Mason" or the Like in my language. Same goes for geographical names, but I guess thats non of my business.

    Neville Island (just downriver of Pittsburgh, PA) is named after General John Neville, one of the few major figures in the Whiskey Rebellion. So ironically, the place gets its name from a person

    Neville Longbottom is what happens when a Huffleclaw or a Ravenpuff has such a pure heart that the Sorting Hat gets confused and puts them in Gryffindor (Yes, I know I've conflated the two houses, but if you think about it, good old Nev is such a halfway house between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw that I couldn't resist it!)

    Neville Chamberlain is probably a big reason why the name isn't popular now--he's so widely perceived as trying to appease Hitler in the lead-up to WWII that the name has become guilty by association.
