Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were as annoying as all-get-out, but it was refreshing to see twins whose names were totally unrelated. In another case, Jenna and Barbara Bush were named for their grandmothers. I knew twins named Nicholas and Douglas. You had to think about that for a bit to get it.

Theodore Tugboat was Canada's answer to Thomas The Tank Engine. It was very popular show and a real full sized Theo tugboat called "Theodore Too" was built and until a few weeks ago was docked at the Maritime Museum in Halifax NS. In the last few weeks it sailed down the St-Lawrence to the Great Lakes, it's new home.

Yeah, Halifax is just not going to be the same without the life-sized "Theodore Too" kicking around the harbour anymore after ~20 years. Unfortunately Ambassatours were hit pretty hard with the drop in tourism last year and selling Theodore was not something they wanted to do but kinda had to do. The original Theodore model from the show itself is still safely on display in the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

The russian cyrillic alphabet used to have a letter like the greek "theta", up until the 19th century. Since the pronunciation of this letter had evolved to almost the same as "f", this theta was deleted in the russian cyrillic alphabet in the late 19th/early 20th century alphabetic reform (the one that got rid of the "short" i that the ukrainian alphabet still has, or the third "silent" letter like ь or ъ (the one with a horizontal line crossing the vertical one).

Once, Teddy Roosevelt had his boat stolen. Instead of letting it go and/or shooting the robbers dead, he made another boat to track them down. Then, in the middle of winter, he dragged the boat thieves on a multiple day journey to the nearest town to arrest them because he wanted justice instead of needless violence. He was also shot in the chest right before delivering a speech. Instead of immediately getting medical attention and letting the gunman face the mercy of the crowd, he demanded that the gunman be unharmed and then carried on with his 84 min. 50-page speech (which was folded up in his breast pocket and was so thick it and his eyeglass case actually slowed down the bullet) before getting medical care, where the bullet was found lodged in his chest muscle. The doctors decided that it would be too risky to remove the bullet, so they left it in and Roosevelt didn't mind at all.

About that "Lego" comment, my Greek teacher told us that a lot of times, Ancient Greek works just like Legos, and you can take pieces of words apart and determine how they work. For verbs, you have a theme, but you can also have an augment for the imperfect and aorist tenses, a particle for the perfect tense, thematic vowels... a lot of pieces that change depending on the declension or conjugaison

I didn’t realize Theodore was that popular in the USA now. I wonder if they go by the nicknames of Ted/Teddy.

I know a set of twins names Dorothy and Theodore in English, and their respective Hebrew names, Natanya and Yonatan likewise mean the same thing.

Theodore reminds me of the chipmunk and the serial killer. And my kindergarden teacher, her name is Teodora. Also, Thomas the train is much scarier than Theodore the tug boat.

I once met someone named Gift while visiting some rellies & touring around South Africa. :D He told us when we asked about his name as it was a very unusual name & he said his mother named him that, cuz he was "a gift from G-d." :D Shirley is also a town on Long Island. :D

@@kirabowie Yes indeed! It's a great example of a false cognate. Just out of curiosity, used an online dictionary to look up the word for poison or venom in Afrikaans. The word in Afrikaans is "gif." So, kinda similar to German.

@@hamsterama *nods* Yeah? XD *nods* Afrikaans is related to Dutch, which is a Germanic language like, of course, German. :D *giggles* I'm just imagining an English speaker like myself trying to figure the meaning of a German sentence with "gift" in it, thinking the sentence is about a present (gift), when it's about poison! XD Thank you for the laugh! :D

A gender-neutral nickname for Theodore and Theodora is Ted(d), which is a proper name in its own right. On another note, if you have ever read The Westing Game you would be familiar with Theo Theodacarus, the Theodacarus family is stated to be Greek almost as soon as we meet them. My 5th-grade class was assigned to read The Westing Game and we had a party where the whole class dressed up as a character of their choice from the book and brought purple-colored foods, I came as Theo with a cake that had purple frosting but my dressing up as Theo was good the rest of the class legitimately thought I was a transfer student to the class starting that day until I started talking (I made my skin have that Mediterranian Greek look with bronzing gel and dyed my hair black, it took a few days to get back to my normal colors). Here's an idea for some future videos, a comparison between Gender-neutral names and Unisex names, and some videos on what defines a unisex name with another on what defines a gender-neutral name.

It is a bit like Þórey (female) and Eyþór (male) Both names are Þór. You know that name better as "Thor".. and ey. Ey can be "island i.e. an isle" or "not" sometimes written as "Ei" though the "Ey" is more common in names.
