Sassy I made it! Backpackers be ware at the airport o. Back in April when I arrive d at Murtala I was wheelchair traveler & the workers to push me through picked pocket my back pack. For a split second I turned my head but luckily after making the loudest chaos in that airport, the wallet was returned back with every penny! My husband made chaos at the entrance & I made it inside cause I called him. Babeee! They will never forget me. 👏🏽👏🏽 I'm black American married to Yoruba & my husband don't play with his wife. Lol!

You get intentionally and unnecessarily delayed by airport officials when you refuse to tip, which is a polished word for bribing. That has been my travel experience at Murtala airport

My point exactly. My friend that travel two months ago missed her flight that she had to pay 100k extra money to the airline to change date for her just because she refused to do the bribing stuff at the airport

Exactly. It's not that people are stupid. But like Sassy said, if a person is late, staff will use that as an opportunity to delay the process and only a bribe will resolve this.

In addition: 1. Don't patronize people who claim they can help you get excess baggage waiver. 2. Don't weigh your baggage yourself or by touts using the empty check-in counter other than the counters for which your airline was allocated. Those scales at the empty counters may be bad and inaccurate.

Am gonna use here as a case in point, there’s what is called tip, any little help u do for any person they want give u a tip. And some restaurants and shopping mores allow for u to tip their staff. So I think it's wise u get used to giving tips. I know in Naija we misuse it but just do it the right way thanks.

Jan 1998, I was at the gate waiting to depart Lagos. To pass time I was watching a video recording of the various activities of my mom for the 7 days we were together. All of a sudden I was seized and detained at the DMI for 3 days. My offense was that I was using a recording device at the airport and it is prohibited. Never mind that it is not posted anywhere and I was not recording anything as they could ascertain for themselves.

Prior to this trip, I had not made it to 9ja in 12yr. I had no idea where I was. They told me if I want to board the plane I will have to leave my camera behind because “Oga” has to view the tape. Mind u a tape of an 85yr old talking which they viewed themselves. I told them I cannot leave my camcorder behind but they can have the tape. These air force guys insisted on keeping the camcorder. At 2am they transported me to DMI where they demanded my US passport. At that point, I very calmly explained that “I have done everything u have asked me without question but you cannot have my passport - property of US government”. I told them the Marines will look for me. They left that matter alone. There was nothing like food. On Sunday, I motioned to the guard to call a number (up until then I could not recall any ph ##) and that when I get to America I will not forget him. He made the call and within 1hr they became aware they messed with the wrong person. The Airport Air Force commandant a Group captain called me in America to apologize. On Wednesday when I was leaving 9ja, one of them came to personally carry my hand luggage and begged me not to implicate him when I tell me story. I sent $200 to the airman that made that call on my behalf. They could have easily killed me. The worst of the officers was one with the rank of flying officer with heavy tribal marks. They reeked of alcohol

I am so sorry to hear of this; however, this incident should have been reported to the US Embassy and the management of the airport. This is not an incident that should have been swept under the carpet. The guy who begged you should have been interrogated and likely fired. He should not have been pitied with what had happened. Who knows what would have happened if you didn't pass that note to the security . I am sure that this kind of incident will never happen again. If it does happen, I think the best thing is to raise an alarm, people don't like that at the airport. Thank you for sharing this story and it is my prayer that the Lord will continue to protect you.

Been to them in airports everywhere, never had a problem. Most have a sheet on the wall for the public to check showing the cleaning schedule, so that it gets signed with every cleaning.

Lagos bathroom more specifically, don’t even try it. I came home with my 6 month old son and needed to use the bathroom. My goodness, there was shit on the floor. Never ever again.

Everything is wrong about Nigeria. Nothing to be proud of. The airport is poorly lit, dirty and very sub-standard compared to others I have seen outside Nigeria.

@@djrb4802 I didn't want to respond but I think in the name of enlightening one another I should. "But You talk too much" is very very rude. There are ways to communicate a point respectfully and this wasn't one of those ways.

@@djrb4802 next time ignore the video and pass, don't come here saying she talks too Much, she is making points and I am sure you don't even know what an airport is , so there is no point asking if you have travelled if not you won't say nonsense. You can't even write a good sentence and improve on your grammar it's too poor.

Edebor Robinson, will appreciate it if you will make a video of your own letting us know about what people should expect when passing through that Lagos airport! Sassy's talk was less than 10mins and the help she gave people was worth more than 4 hours of your time at the airport ( and avoiding the harrassment) Wondering if you have been to the place at all. And nobody is forcing you to listen or watch any video, just waka pass! Thanks dear Sassy for all your efforts, helping us to keep our sanity in that hell of a place!
