There is no higher rating above IPx4 when it comes to sweat and/or rain. 5, 6 and 6K are for example if you are spraying with a hose. 7 is for 30 min under 1m of water, 8 is for longer duration and deeper distance, depending on what the customer wants a.k.a. manufacturer. Last rating, 9K, is purely atumotive - 80-100 bar with 80-100C of temperature - a power washer. edit: check you the IP ratings (first number is foreign objects, the second is water). The numbers are just a class of protection, not a scale. And honestly it kind of doesnt make sense.

To be fair, IP7-8 kind of implies higher protection from rain as immersion in water > rain. It's a nice to have for a peace of mind so you know it's essentially waterproof (for daily use).

@@CRneu Yes but as QWERTY Utopia said, I said "essentially waterproof (for daily use)". I added caveats to it and thus it is an okay term to use. If I said "it's waterproof", then that's wrong, but if something is IP68 rated, in day-to-day use, you could essentially treat it as waterproof (so long as you don't do something egregiously out of normal use).

I wonder if the battery longevity would actually be better than on a conventially charged Bluetooth headphones. Batteries love nothing more than to be trickle charged and never be fully charged or fully empty (30-80% battery happy place). If I'm wrong, let me know battery chem folks

You nailed probably the best value of those headphones. Battery life is all about Depth of Discharge (DoD). The wear is inversely proportional to the DoD. 100x 10% DoD is similar in wear to a 1x 100% DoD. A battery that is trickle charing from solar constantly will see very little cycle wear. If I was the disigner I would add a "life optimizer" setting that only charges to 80% when not in use and then when in use tries to regulate the battery around 60%. That charging cycle could result in a battery that has an insanly long battery life for a consumer product. If these headphones mechanically hold up and resist UV rays well, then Adidas may have a problem with their headphones being too robust and not ever needing to be replaced.

It might require some more evaluation. The signature Zound Industries developed for Zinken had something like 12db of bass boost. One would think that should be absolutely MURDEROUS and just kill music solid, but it... didn't, they sound surprisingly palatable! Because the boost is firmly in the subbass and there's little of it left in the midbass; and also the midrange and top end are smooth and lush, avoid peakiness, and goes well beyond 17KHz. There was a little of a V-shape and scooped mid, but not even that prominent. Like obviously not studio reference headphones, but i would say, the goal of consumer reproduction equipment is to ruin as little music as possible, and while more neutral signatures usually accomplish this better, sometimes weird ones do surprisingly well, they really were less genre sensitive than their competitors such as Aiaiai TMA1. Would have loved to see the measurement plot on this one. Whether they've done the same thing here, or whether the Fs shifted up. Curiously i would say the main source of the signature sound was the pad formulation. Memory foam, extremely high density. Incidentally a problem with them is that the pads would last for about 5 years from manufacture, and while the model was sold, they'd also sell replacements at a reasonable price, but then, it became impossible to get replacements. After a few years from manufacture, the weld of the pads would fail and they would explode.

I love the idea of low power efficient devices with tiny solar panels When I was a teenager my dad gave me his old Citizen watch, which was already quite old and very banged up by that point.. but it had only a capacitor and photovoltaic face, no battery. Being a simple wrist watch it was so power efficient that a 1" circle solar cell could charge and run it with ambient indoor lighting. Shove it in a draw for a weekend though and it stops, but take it out and a few seconds later it starts ticking again Some super rough 'back of the napkin' math suggests an analogue hybrid smart watch (full of health tracking sensors but only analogue hands - read out info on phone via bluetooth) could get a full day's charge with just ~20-30 minutes of sunlight. I think that's juuuuust out of reach for staying alive on ambient indoor lighting but it's pretty close. Maybe one day soon we can have a 24/7 health tracker that never needs to be removed for charging

Generally Zound tunings are pretty palatable and excursion linearity is good, not everyone likes the tunings, but i happen to, and there are really worse headphones to dump money into at any pricepoint, sooo... like i DEFINITELY wouldn't buy them at anywhere near the price or at all, but if i was better off, i'd give it a listen, and probably would.

This is pretty well thought out product. I'm surprised how little companies care to have at least parts of their headphones to be easily removed and/or cleaned since many use headphones daily for multiple hours in a row when working (and also when doing workouts). They get disgusting pretty fast and often from sweat, grease, hair and hair products. Also that constant trickle-charging should be great for the longevity of the battery if used in the right environment and if battery level stays between 20-80% so love that aspect in these. If not succeessfull enough these could be found in the discount bins in less than year and if you can grab these around $100-150 then it could be a pretty nice deal for the price.

Over had the first version of these (non-solar) since 2021. I've actually had three versions, because as good as they are (loud, bassy sound, firm fit), the power button kept failing after a while. It's a common issue. I'm hoping these don't have the same issue, as the sound and fit was superb.

I am curious about whether this concept will be adapted by other companies in the future. On the one hand it sounds really cool to not worry about changing the battery at all, but on the other hand long battery life and quick charging make this somewhat redundant.

He said on ear headphones can’t have noise cancellation? I have the Beats Solo Pro and they have the same H1 chip the AirPods Pro have with I’d say the same quality ANC and transparency mode the only drawback with them is during transparency mode it’s just a little hard to hear your own voice than it would with the AirPods Pro.

LED light has large blue portion that is sub 400nm (thats what cause the ugly blue light from early led bulbs) and past like 650 theres pretty much nothing.
