YES!!! NEUROSIS!!! Thank you Geebz for taking this on. Hope to see you dissect more tracks from these guys. Super cool for me as a long time fan of the band to see someone else experience them from scratch. Their back catalogue is intensely varied, running the gamut from some excellent Rudimentary Peni/Discharge/Amebix influenced Hardcore Punk in their early days, to Folk and Prog inspired craziness that lends huge nods to the likes of Pink Floyd and King Crimson, to sonically disturbing and densely layered Industrial infused sludge/doom metal, to minimalist stuff and more spaced out ethereal, even serene moments. These guys are legends for a multitude of reasons, one of the most influential in the realm of extreme/underground heavy music, inspiring almost everyone from Sepultura to Mastodon.

Yay! One of my favorite bands and my very best live concert experience! Saw them with my friends in Tavastia club Helsinki. The most intense and well thought of stage performance I have seen. No gimmicks, no fireworks, no engaging with the audience - just a spotlight on a blacked out stage on Noah, the keyboard player, holding one note until the rest of the band comes on stage. Song kicks in, in a huge wall of sound and lights come on. Song ends - lights goes out. On the last song stage goes black and Noah stays on spotlight holding one key, until all bandmembers get off stage. And then raises his hand to salute and takes a step back to darkness... From Finland I salute the brotherhood of Neurosis!

Love to see neurosis getting some love. A little bummed you didn’t do “locust star” that song was godly. Neurosis is amazing, Scott Kelly the lead singer and one of the guitarists is mastodon’s closest collaborator and one of the best friends, he been on like 7 of their projects. You should check out a mastodon Scott Kelly song. They “aqua dementia” “crystal skull” “crack the skye” “spectrelight” “diamond in the witch house” “scorpion breath” “fallen torches” pretty. Pretty much all fantastic songs, my fav is “diamond in the witch house”. they also did a show together for kerrang called mastodon live in the kpit and it’s glorious. Anyway neurosis rules and Scott Kelly is awesome, incredible vocalist live too and his collabs with mastodon are magical. Neurosis was also one of if not the biggest influences on mastodon.

Neurosis are truly special. They are similar to Meshuggah in the way that they helped to create a new subgenre of metal (Post-Metal) and influenced a lot of modern bands, like Mastodon for example. It's interesting how they started (more or less) as a hardcore punk band and went on to create these long, massive and atmospheric songs, that often have an tribal, primal energy to them. Glad to hear you liked them! If you'd like a recommendation on what the next step into Neurosis, I'd say try something from Through Silver in Blood or The Eye of Every Storm. All of their stuff is worth checking out, though.

Without doubt the best thing I've heard here that I'd not heard before. I'd heard of the band, but not really heard anything except in passing. Took chances and owned them. Whether it's the monk chant or flute riff, the ability to hear what will work best and use it is supreme. When I got into making music, my main mantra was "Don't limit yourself. There are no rules in art". If it takes a fucking hurdy gurdy to get the sound the song needs, get yourself a fucking hurdy gurdy and stop worrying about if it's "metal" or not. Glad to see Neurosis! I wasn't sure about the song choice as a starter, but then I realized the person who suggested it tailored it to you perfectly, with all the orchestral arrangements and song structure, etc. Neurosis was THE defining band that basically created the whole prog/post genre. ISIS is very heavily influenced by them, and as ISIS has also many similarities to tool, I like to think of it like tool and Neurosis are two wings of a bird, with ISIS bringing them together as the body. For me they're my big three as the whole sort of muddy genre of prog/post metal goes. You will not be disappointed with Neurosis. Most people suggest "Locust Star" (there's a really good live version from ozzfest) as a starter, but I think you might appreciate them from any point in their discography. If you wanted to shoot from the hip, some albums to start would be "Times of Grace," "Through SIlver in Blood" and "Given to the Rising." I really think you could throw a dart at any track on those three and be satisfied with their very unique and experimental sound that can vary greatly from album to album, but still somehow ends up sounding only like Neurosis.

saw these guys play a small show w/ smp in the upstairs of cafe paradiso off broadway in seattle in the late 90s. place was so packed and jumping so bad that the whole floor was bouncing up and down. went out for a smoke partway thru and you could see the building swelling and flexing, was amazing to see.

Geebz, Cult of Luna just dropped a stellar new album, and the final (main) track, not counting the outro, is called Blood Upon Stone. It is a freaking masterpiece of a song and may have topped my previous favorite by them, Dark City Dead Man - something I didn’t even think possible cuz I love that one so much. I highly, highly recommend you to check out Blood Upon Stone, it is an epic journey and I think it would give you a lot to talk about. Plus, I don’t think you’ve revisited Cult of Luna since you checked out Three Bridges. As a huge fan of your channel, I beg you to check that one out when you get a chance. Awww right!

Yeah! Neurosis is so influential to so many bands. Go down that rabbit hole. This album is them just starting to find their voice. My favorite of their albums is "Through Silver in Blood" and you should do the track "Purify". It's beyond. So intense, so deep, tribal, heavy, trippy. LONG song. Over 12 minutes. My favorite song of theirs.

This the album where they changed from a fast heavy hardcore punk-ish band and started to transition into the huge sludge powerhouse of emotional and dark n heavy music they’ve been doing for most their career…this album was the turning point for sure but check out songs from Times of Grace or Silver in Blood for more “typical” of their style/what they’re known for 😊
