Neuropa - Phylogenesis (Impulse Tracker Goa Trance / December 1998)

Track 8 from my collection of old goa trance tracks made in Impulse Tracker. This one was finished on December 4th, 1998 and has at least some initial influence from Transwave's album "Helium" again, in particular its title track. Of course I put my own twist on it, and it's perhaps the most "positive" and "funky" track in the collection. Also, this was the last track I finished in 1998, and I vaguely remember I had to take a month off making music here since I started running out of ideas (I have a bunch of unfinished tracks from around this time).

It’s been a minute, but I got started writing music on ScreamTracker then switched to IT. I was in a demo group that competed at NAID in 95 and 96, and released some independent stuff too. I have never been happy with using MIDI DAW tools. Nothing provides the level of control and workflow like a tracker, imo. I wish there were some modern tools that had that same vibe. I love the idea of assigning effects per row in the tracker - so much better than editing sysex or whatever.

Yeah, when you get the keyboard shortcuts memorised, working in a tracker is lightning fast, and it's still kinda absurd how easy it is to do something as basic as pitch bends/slides in a tracker versus trying to do the same thing in a DAW. And concerning modern tools, someone mentioned Renoise, another guy uses ZTracker for sequencing hardware (I'm not familiar with either of those), and there's actually a script for REAPER (which is my DAW of choice) that creates a tracker style interface, but I've actually never used it. OpenMPT and Schism Tracker have also been mentioned in some of the comments here, and I'm quite sure there's more out there.

Oh OpenMPT is a great free tracker to use, and Famitracker as well, ive used both and had good success with learning/making music. Also while not entirely a tracker, the workflow is similar, Minecraft Note Block Studio lol.

You can do it. Let's fight AI together. It will be an epic battle. You're going to need weapons. Get a hold of a software synthesizer and a sampler. You'll need to know how sounds are constructed as well as how microphone recorded sounds are broken down into loops and oneshots. Chaining everything together is also a challenge you will spend many years perfecting. Eurorack and modular synth folks are masters of the patchbay. Grab cardinal and learn from the best. Route it all into an oscilloscope, a spectrogram/sonogram or spectrum analyzer and study what you're working with. It's a world of opportunity out there. Don't forget to share your fun with others. See you on the battlefield!

There are modern tools which have the same vibe: "Buzztard" and "ReNoise". Both feature a tracking interface for note input while being digital audio workstations.
Nice, very nice indeed!

Buzz certainly is an acquired taste, it's easy to get lost in the modular way it's set up, and end up making weird noises and complex setups instead of making some actual music XD Renoise has been mentioned before, I should maybe give it a go some day.

Actually, oldschool trackers aren't that difficult, once you get the hang of it of course (which is true for any tool you might use).

Будто Astral Projection. Похоже и по стилю и по используемым звукам.

Astral Projection was the first goa trance I heard back in 1997, but I wouldn't say that this particular track sounds much like them. Some sounds might be similar, but the style, not so much if you ask me. Thanks for listening :)
Very nice track ! If i ever get the chance to make a game can i use it ? (with credits of course)

Well, my tracks are Creative Commons licensed, but I usually prefer using the CC-BY-NC (noncommercial) license, and youtube doesn't have anything more fine grained than CC-BY. If you ever get around making the game, drop me a line and I'm sure we can work something out :)
