The Netherlands is the first European country I did visit when I was young. It was a fascinating tour, especially the countryside. Since I always felt the Netherlands as my other country. People are very welcoming. Some of my family & friends have moved there. I wish I'll visit them & the country soon. Thanks for this amazing video. Greetings from Great Britain. Funny to hear people say we need more trees. :P It would be nice if they had focused more on the sand dunes. The largest nature reserve in the Netherlands (Veluwe) used to be a dessert. Big parts of the country were planted with threes for hunting grounds. Much of the original nature in the Netherlands got lost because of that. Nowadays they are trying to restore these areas by cutting trees, to prevent animals which live in heidegebied to die out. Shows how complicated it all is 🙂 if you ever visit the Netherlands, you should visit those regions at the end of spring it is really beautiful. Especially the hills around Overijssel everything is purple there in the spring :)

The ‘deserts’ you speak of aren’t natural. Neither are the heaths (heiden). Overgrazing with sheep was the cause of both. Before that these areas used to be forest of mainly oaks and beeches (eiken en beuken). If we’d leave the ‘deserts’ and heaths alone for a good while, then the forest would return.

Of the total surface area of the Netherlands, 54 percent is used as farmland. There are 100 million chickens, 11.4 million pigs and 3.8 million cows. That’s 115 million animals. The Netherlands has the highest livestock density in the world and the highest emissions of ammonia per hectare in the EU after Malta. So yes we need to reduce the amount of animals to cut nitrogen emissions in half by 2030.

The USA has so much more wild untouched nature... Well, maybe not florida, but I am willing to wager that Florida has even more then over here. I just in some way long for the feeling of being in a place untouched by people, with basically nobody around as the eye could see. Most of the forests we do have are full of artificial walkways, structures, and human planted and maintained paches of trees. And it mostly only takes 5 minutes to come across another person. Heck, like a fifth of our country was underwater 100 years ago. We artifically made it into new land. I just wonder what it would be like to walk or hike along large pure natural nature.

Most of the land in NL is used for agriculture, there’s a ridiculous overproduction (meat, dairy) which exhausts and pollutes the land. Sadly the “natural value” of farmland has decreased a lot due to “industrial agriculture” the last century.

Andre_1929 ... land used for agriculture is not nature but “cultured land”, sadly the “natural value” of it has decreased a lot the last century.
