Netanyahu: Israel will enter Rafah regardless of a cease-fire deal with Hamas | DW News
Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is vowing that his country's army will enter the southern Gaza city of Rafah - regardless of whether a cease-fire deal is reached with Hamas.
Speaking at a meeting with the families of Israeli hostages, Netanayhu said Israel would not end the war until all of its goals had been achieved - including eliminating Hamas battalions in Rafah. Many had hoped a cease-fire agreement would avert a Rafah ground incursion - which Israel's allies, including the United States and Germany, have warned against.
For more on this, we talk to DW Correspondent Tania Krämer in Jerusalem.

What a crock of trash. Of course their are brigades of Gazan forces in Rafah - they fled the Israel advance to hide there, and regularly launch rockets at Israel from inside Rafah. Also, if Gaza is so worried about Israel entering Rafah - why not just surrender? Israels demands are pretty reasonable - disarm, sign a peace deal, release the hostages you kidnapped, and in return the war ends. Its amazing to me how Gaza can declare war on Israel, rape murder and kidnapp people, refuse to end the war, and still somehow be the innocent victims.

Israel has offered the Palestinians a two state soloution half a dozen times, and always been turned down - Israel has never turned down a Palestinian 2 state deal (because they've never offered one lol). Seriously, how clueless can you be? Just as some examples, Clinton offered a two state deal in 2000 that Israep accepted and the Palestinians refused. In 2019 Trump offered a two state soloution, and again, Israel accepts, the Palestinians refuse. The fact that they keep sending money and weapons clearly illustrates what they are trying to accomplish? The words of the US administration seem to me as simply posturing to try and convince the US public how they are some peacemakers or whatever since they are well aware of the public outcry on the matter. In the wake of widespread protests and violent crackdowns on those you will likely not be hearing much verbal proof of "ironclad support" for Israel these days. Not because it's not present anymore, but because it is unpopular. Water is wet, politicians often lie. The good old "actions speak louder than words" comes in handy here.

A cease-fire is just that. It is not a Peace agreement. Netanyahu is a criminal and a huge obstacle to peace, and hopefully will be in jail soon. But don't think for a moment that that means that Hamas does not need to be destroyed or at least completely weakened. And to achieve that, Rafah has to be entered because otherwise, they will survive, claim victoy and rebuild their stronghold on Gaza. You cannot fight terror with one hand tied to your back.

I like DW for its' quality reporting but I am concerned about the increasingly partial and arbitrary direction of the Gaza coverage on the channel. The UNRWA member is clearly an ideologist and a pundit, why have him on the show? More importantly, UNRWA was revealed to funnel funds to Hamas and to have members affiliated with the terrorist organization who cheered when the massacre happened. Is it not enough to discredit it? This, in addition to an increasingly hostile tone towards every single thing Israel does while completely omitting Hamas' use of civilian population as meat shields and UN relief funds directed to Gaza funneled into the biggest underground terror base in the region makes me think DW is not interested in a fair, balanced reporting on this issue.

Netanyahu's threat to go into Gaza is the only thing bringing Hamas to the ceasefire table. They've rejected ceasefire after ceasefire for months on end now, never changing their maximalist demands, all of which Israel has accepted. His statements are helping, not hurting. Israel should have given Hamas this deadline months ago. Why the U.S. keeps pressuring Israel, especially publicly, not to go into Rafah is totally baffling. It has only encouraged Hamas not to negotiate.

Its tragic, but the reality is a few hostages arent worth allowing HAMAS to continue ruling Gaza for - they've already said they want to repeat Oct 7th, and that killed over a thousand people. The cruel reality of war is that its not worth saving a few dozen people if it gets thousands killed.
