Nestor Makhno | Making History

This figure still remains one of the most mysterious in the history of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921. None of the white generals, red commanders, and otamans enjoyed such popularity, respect, and even the love of their subjects as Makhno did, whom they respectfully called father. So who was this person?

It would be very interesting to see how a free Ukraine would interact with other countries, lacking a government and all that. As of now, no country recognises Rojava, which is anarchist-adjacent. I imagine that various people would form associations, and those associations could send diplomats. I'd still imagine that there would be many diplomatic incidents along the border without a single authority to negotiate with.

Makhno's personality is very tragic. because during the formation of ideas, academic works in secret clubs (because even for the idea of cultural revival you were tortured) and the basis for the creation of the Ukrainian People's Republic. he simply did not have access to the goals of the so-called "Ukrainian national movement". so I think that when Makhno heard the word "state" during the dialogue, he instantly ended the discussion. Not understanding the true purpose of the Bolsheviks. You ask a communist, "Well, what is the world like under communism?", and he describes heaven to you and adds, "but you have to work for 200 years somewhere... no, this is not the state, it is the temporary government of the communist revolution. Here it is, the power of dialectics." In the books he wrote in France, Makhno described his mistakes for the descendants of anarchists.❤

I myself am not an anarchist but I am a marxist and no attachment to it. I think anarchism is great I've read kirpotkin but I also like the idea of the vanguard party. I have disagreements with almost all of the marxist methods like leninism, democratic socialism, anarchism and such and I think in certain situations and certain places a specific one would have to be used to organize. I think lenin was a fine leader for Russia but Ukraine could've successfully been anarchist if not for the red and white army

The thing is, speaking as someone who's a half-step from being an anarchist, the vanguard party's usefulness ought to expire after the revolution if the end goal of a stateless and classless society is to be attained. Too much power concentrated is too great a risk in any circumstance, it's the primary mechanism by which capitalism creates such horrible conditions worldwide, and libertarian socialists like myself fear that if power is allowed to be concentrated after the revolution the danger is too great that the vanguard party will be little more than the next state and class with its own boot on the necks of the people we seek to liberate.

@@emPtysp4ce see the way I look at leninism at least modern day interpretations by leninists I know and my own interpretations from theory. I think the idea of a vanguard party I think is necessary for overthrowing capitalism. I think capitalism is far too advanced and efficient in squashing leftists to have any form of anarchist revolution to be successful sadly. But I do believe anarchism is inevitable with communism amd communism inevitable to anarchism. It seems that the left has been expelling and fighting each other, the struggle between the Bolsheviks and the Anarchy, the Mensheviks. The struggle between the Stalinists and the Trotskyists, the conflicts between Mao Zedong and Liu Shaoqi, these similar things have appeared in too many left-wing groups and countries. They do have similar ideologies, but the gap between their ideologies breaks them completely.

Oh yeah this video is quite upfront about that. "Why didn't Makhno support the movement for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and why did the Russian Bolsheviks invade Ukraine" sounds like typical Ukrainian nationalist propaganda. Makhno was defending against Bolshevik invasions, and gives far more of a shit about Ukrainians not being exploited than does the current Ukrainian fascist government. And, when reports surfaced that one Black army leader was committing pogroms (just like the Bolsheviks were), Nestor or his wife, Agafya (according to some versions of the story) went to the aforementioned leader's house, knocked on his door, and just killed him, no questions asked. And now the Ukrainian government has an openly Neo-Nazi battalion called Azov that is integrated into the Ukrainian National Guard, and has already been murdering Roma.
