It actually makes sense that his initial transformation looks like this. Yamato is the sword that can separate man from devil. When Nero used it as a catalyst for his transformation it separated his devil trigger from his physical form creating the phantasm.

I doubted he was Dante's kid the first time I played it. Not saying I know Dante personally, I originally thought there would be just a new white haired character. Or there be another like Sparda that brought Nero into this world. Then when he got the Yamato and his "devil trigger" I gasped. I said "oooooh, that's how he came to be." I'm certainly not the only one who made that connection at the time of dmc4s release. But at the time I didn't care at all that much about Nero's parentage. Too busy playing a new and cool character. But I will attest to how wild the mystery was of the time. People were dead sure Dante had a kid.

everytime I watch this, it gives me goosebump when Nero said "From that day forth, my arm changed, and a voice echoed. Power, Give me more Power!" I can even hear it in vergil's voice

I always thought fusing with Yamato caused Nero to be temporarily possessed by Vergil's memories... Causing Nero to recite a Vow that Vergil must've made in the past. "From this day forth, my arm changed" probably means Vergil recently activated his devil trigger at the time and made this Vow of needing more power after losing their mother to demons. It's just another way to look at this scene.. gives me the chills thinking about it

Actually that's just his devil trigger doppelganger,due to nero's arm,he was unable to achieve devil trigger,and was only capable of using the yamato to use the doppelganger as a devil trigger,while vergil (dmc 5) could do both doppelganger AND devil trigger,reason why nero had to regrow his arm to fully control his Devil trigger,thanks for coming to my ted talk

Lol in dmc series including 1 and 3 specifically the devil trigger forms come from the devil arms. Dmc1 dante only gets devil trigger first when he gets alastor and the sword you start with is the force edge and it doesn't have the power to turn into spardas form until its fully complete. Dmc3 each devil stm equipped you get a different form. Dmc5 when rebellion breaks dante loses his form. The only true form dante has without a devil arm is his majin form like how vergil is fully demon as an angelo without yamato

He's Vergil's son alright. He has white hair, kidda triggered his demon side, fixed Yamato and uses it no problem. Also, "Power, give me more...power!" which reminds me of the blue demon himself.

I don't think Vergil knows why he sought power anymore, V said the last thing he wanted was simply to get enough power to defeat his brother. He knows that he needed power if he's to protect anything, but the problem is he had nothing to protect. Nero however had Kirye, so when he thought of her in the lab, his desire for power grew. The Yamato happened to be in the next room and it sensed its owner's power resonating to it, so it responded to him. It's also interesting when you realize that both Dante and Vergil got their power with external help, but Nero did not need any. His desire to protect Kirye awaken his demonic heritage, his desire to not let Vergil die unlocked its true potential.

Funny enough, Dante DOES have a time manipulation ability that he got in DMC3 so there's that. Sure, his Quicksilver style doesn't stop time indefinitely but it can sure as hell slow down time by an extreme amount that it looks like he stopped time.

love It's why Vergil will always lose. He is too bitter, cold, greedy and fights for the wrong reasons. Sparda defeated the entire demon army... because he dared to love a Human. Asylum could not control the Sparda power because it was not meant for him. It warped his body and mind and was easily defeated. He satanicly sacrificed his own wife and turned his back on his daughter, Lady. Dante fights to learn more about himself and what he is and because...he misses his Mother 😢. He is lighthearted, keeps a sense of humor no matter how bad things get and he cares. Nero: "anything...for her." Nero did more with Yamato in a single inner moment of meditation than Agnus did in his tedious research with goals of world domination. I think what the villians fail to see here is that the power of Sparda is so strong because of a choice to hold on to ones humanity. Our hopes, our fears, our compassion is what makes us strong.

Isn't Nero Vergils son? I think it was confirmed too on an interview with the dmc creators. I think that's the reason why Yamato actually reacted to Neros devilpowers. What I believe is that Vergil loved a human in the cult and to protect her from it, he searched for more power. When Nero said he needs more power he really reminded me of Vergil. I think the only reason Vergil was so cold so no one could stand in his way, not even his family. "Anything to protect her". A lot of what Nero said could have been originally from Vergil. Vergil does love a lot, in the end of dmc 3 he saved Dante from being trapped in the demonworld. If he really was so cold and mighthungry, it wouldn't matter to him if Dante was trapped or not.

it peeves me when people miss what I am saying and have a rebuttal on an unnecessary point. I did not say the ONLY reason Nero resurrected Yamato was love...nor did I say Vergil is incapable of love. No shyt Nero is Vergil's son. We know this. I am saying ... what a warrior fights for... affects how he fights. I am merely pointing out a theme within DMC that seems to coincide with the classic "good always wins" morality tale. Just because Vergil loved once, does not mean there is love in his long-term motivation. He is driven by being power hungry and probably embraces his demon heritage more than his human side. He does not have inner peace or balance to his spirit. This is why he will always lose.

Chaney McInnis Vergil doesn't fight for the wrong reasons he just fights for the right reasons in a wrong way. The reason Vergil wanted power is for he can get revenge on demons for what they did to his mother and father, even if that means collecting power that isn't his and defeating his own brother. Dante fights for the same reason that's why he made Devil may Cry he doesn't want anyone else to be taken away thanks to these demons, he just does this in a different way than Vergil by not be being greedy. I understand why Vergil is bitter and cold would you be to if your mother and father were gone. I also think Dante is depressed but shows it in a different way, trying to cover it with a smirk and cheesy one liners. Nero is driven by his duty to protect and for love.

"the right reasons" "greed" greed is a pure reason to fight? K Vergil is consumed with hatred. He embraces his demon side more than he likes being human, yet hates everything demon because they killed his parents. Vergil has no inner peace or balance. Vergil stabbed Dante in the chest with his own sword, hoping it would kill him...had maybe a brief moment of regret...then pushed his fucking hair back. Dante defeated Vergil...then shedded a tear claiming it was rain. You are wrong. Vergil does not have pure intent. He has no love in his heart. If you wanna flip it to your perception like "being a tyrant is the same as being a savior, because they both do what they believe is best for their people" then we can easily say there is no such thing as villains because villains want the same as what heroes want...they just go about it the wrong way...which would just be bullshit, because if they were the same, there would be no conflict. Listen, my original post isn't about where you draw the line between sinner or saint...all I am saying is....Dante's harmony within ...makes him a better warrior. Vergil has no love, no harmony within and is clouded by selfishness. He will always lose. Love is what makes their demon power strong and Vergil, Arkham, Mundus and Agnes don't understand that. It was for the love of a human woman that Sparda fought and defeated the entire demon army. Do you or do you not see the classic "love conquers all" underlying theme?

@@andreadebernardis4390 i think if Nero get his Sin Devil Trigger in DMC 6 it should be the original DT concept of DMC4 (the ghost form but physical this time). Meanwhile since lore wise (if i'm not wrong) once you have sin DT you can't go back to normal DT (we never saw the twins using normal DT once they have the sin version) Nero could use the phantom as 'normal' DT and the SDT will the physical one.

@@andreadebernardis4390 i think when you use DT as Dante (or when you fight him) is a gameplay mechanic because else it would be too OP. Kinda like when you play you only have access to a little part of Dante/Vergil/Nero power. Else if you had them as strong as they are lore wise during gameplay part it wouldn't be fun because you will take thousand of hits before dying or could run even quicker than light.

3 is definitelly the GOAT, but after playing through 5 and loving it, i think i like 4 more than 5 overall, even with the backtracking and all.

Fun Fact : Both Nero and Ichigo share the same Voice actor in English and both Orihime and Kyrie shares the same voice actress as well. Hmm then we have the disaster DmC's Dlc where Vergil have a hollow version of him with white accents and he goes to defeat him like how Ichigo faced against White Zangetsu. Another one is DT, how in Bleach they have Bankai and how ichigo is a hybrid like how the sons of Sparda are. So many parallels between Bleach and DMC and I fricking love it.

I remember my theory for years was that Nero was either a reincarnation of Vergil or had simply been possessed by Vergil's spirit at some point but finding out he was his son and Vergil was still alive later was awesome.

The part where he would protect Kyrie even if he would turn to be a demon. To me, that’s commendable

Drake Fellwing Incorrect. Yamato was a powerful demon, the one that hovers behind Nero, who forged a sword that could open and close the Hellgate. After his death, Sparda took up the sword and gave it its name, Yamato, in recognition. Sometime later Sparda acquired Rebellion, and gave it to his two sons, Rebellion to Dante, Yamato to Vergil. Nero, while being of Sparda's blood in some manner, is the reincarnation of sorts of Yamato, seen in the arm. Its the same arm as Yamato had, and Nero got the arm without any contact with the sword. The reason they both sound similar is because whenever D.T is activated, the character's voice is played alongside the voice of the demon, so whenever Vergil went D.T, he also spoke with Yamato, like Nero. For example, when Dante uses Agni & Rudra, his D.T has him speaking with 2 deep voices, but when he uses Nevan, theres a husky female voice alongside his

Dante Kenway Dude its well known that each Devil Arm is the soul incarnate of a powerful Demon. Throughout all DMC media, Devil Arms were relinquished by demons either by choice or upon defeat (Alastor, Ifrit, Cerberus, Agni, Rudra, Nevan, Beowulf, Yamato) Other examples include Devil Arms that come not from powerful demonsthemselves, but the forces that drive them. Gilgamesh, a hungry weapon borne of Echidna's symbiotic desire to use any organic matter as her weapon withthe Chimera. Pandora, the multipurpose weapon taken from the seemingly neverending familyof Dagon and Bael. And Lucifer, a lustful weapon prised from the corpse of Berial, a best who sought to conquer in all aspects. Those three weapons arent of the beasts themselves but representations of their motives. Then theres the enigma, Force Edge/Sparda, the only example of a Devil Arm used by the Demon it came from, since rather than being a representation of power, it was simply a vessel containing Sparda's Dormant power. I may have waffled here but the point is clear, ALL Devil Arms ARE or WERE powerful Demons, Yamato included

loved this game...wonder when their going to address nero and vergils connection...i know vergil is his father..even when dante lets him have the sword he says something like "gotta keep it in the family" then lets him have it..itll be nice to get another dmc game with nero and whole lot more back story

You do know that Vergil IS NOT Nero's father, Vergil would have had to been 14 years old at the time of the mothers impregnation. Yes yes, I know there's a novel or whatever, but that has been written off as non canon..so just drop it. Nero is indeed a member of the Sparda bloodline, but not a descendant of either of his 2 known sons.

There are clues as to what the connection is, we know that Vergil was fragmented back in DMC when Dante defeated Neo Angelo. We know the only ones able to restore Yamato would have been the one who made and weilded it, Sparda, or Vergil himself. This very clip gives us another clue as to Nero's demonic power, as he seemingly was not born with it: "From that day forward, my arm changed". We can assume that this means an event like a fragment of Vergil's spirit possessed Nero, causing his change and the voice desiring power. Also, this call for power is what brought him to Yamato and restored it. Returning it to the owner by proxy. Vergil.

Just wanted to say how cool it is the developers kept Nero’s DT in DMC5 almost identical to DMC4’s minus Vergil’s influence (the arm sheath for Yamato, the jacket which closely resembles Vergil’s DT). Basically explains why Nero couldn’t go full DT in DMC4 as it was handicapped and only being fed by Yamato.

So seeing this and Nero’s DT in DMC 5. I feel like it’s a form a DT, yes, but not a true DT, like Dante’s or Vergil’s. I feel that it’s mostly Nero awakening to the full power in the Devil Bringer and the Yamato because after losing them both in DMC 5, he no longer had access to that power, so it made sense it was tied to his arm. Then at the end of DMC 5, Nero fully awakens the full demon power within him giving a proper Devil Trigger and allowing him to access some of the abilities he lost when he lost the Devil Bringer.

It's probably a mutation. Nero is a special case when it comes to the Devil Trigger. I'm implying that in 4 it was probably due to him being an uneven hybrid so the power had to show itself somehow or it would probably hurt Nero in some way or another. And due to the Yamato being a family sword from Sparda himself and Nero being apart of his bloodline it reacted to him especially since Vergil is his father so I think Yamato used Nero as an a means of returning to Vergil but recognized him due to lineage and stuff like that. Then again this is just headcannon and theory.

that is without a doubt vergil behind him he even has the same sheath for yamato in his arm. he even says words straight from vergils mouth so its no coincidence. i think the whole reason his DT activated was because of vergil. Nero is thinking about kyrie and telling her to run like he cant protect her (like vergil and his mother) i think vergils spirit is latched on to Nero somehow because theres zero reason for yamato to activate and reforge without recognizing vergils soul. i suspect dante knows this too and thats why he lets Nero keep it

A nice silly fan theory I've seen floating around is that the reason Nico's van is so indestructible (crashing through walls, floors and the like without a scratch) is that Agnus left behind a Devil Arm after his defeat in DMC4 and Nico uses it to power the van.

Love the fact that the devil is a seperate entity as well.

This was a moment when I understood, that it was corrupted Vergil inside Nero, when Yamato repaired. And those words about "hand", "exile" and "power"... it is Vergil´s vows to yourself, after his mother´s death.

In this family, its a tradition to get stabbed by sword multiple times and live

I came here right after Devil May Cry V's reveal!

My guess is, that Nero's arm awakened Yamato, and had nothing to do with Vergil until then. Vergil's spirit awakened within Yamato after it realized that Nero and Vergil's ambitions are the same. They want to protect the one they love most. Since Nero's arm absorbs demonic artifacts and Yamato is no different, it gave him the devil trigger.

marcos urrutia That's what people say but I really don't think so. We don't have any evidence to base this off of other than he has the blood of Sparda. I mean it could be possible, but Dante(and Vergil if he was still alive) are only like 30-31 years old in DMC4. In DMC3 they're around 19-20 years old. Nero is about that age (19-20) so unless Vergil was getting busy around 10 then idk how Nero would be his son.

HYPETRAIN Okay, well how come Nero's power did not awaken before his contact with Yamato? Unless you count Devil Bringer, but Devil Bringer might not even be HIS arm. We know nothing of Nero's mother, or any other family. I feel like the hints are given to us to throw us off and give a lot of people the simple answer. Truly if it was that simple, I don't see why they don't blatantly show us in the game.

IccyTheOne Devil Bringer is arm, it's stated several time that the arm was always his that he was born with it but the accident was the catalyst of him arm transforming completely, becoming possessed by an " evil force". Sit tight, and I shall explain all. DMC 3 happens around the time Vergil and Dante are about 18-20, and canonically, Vergil visited Fortuna BEFORE ever meeting Dante again in the DMC 3 manga, which is a year before DMC 3. During Fortuna, Vergil investigated the Order of the Sword and while he was he slept with a woman that in turn conceived Nero. Now, in the DMC 4 novel, it is stated by Sanctus that Nero's mother is likely a prostitute, since no one knew exactly who she was. Now at this time, Vergil could be between the ages of 16-17, is unusual for someone of his age to actually have sex. Nero was then raised by Kyrie and Credo's parents as a part of their family, and eventually fell in love with Kyrie. While Nero was apart of the order, a large number of demons attacked Fortuna forest, but Nero defeated them all, albeit suffering injury to his arm which he believed to be an infection. In truth, however, it was demonic power and Nero decided to train with it in secret and also hid it, by the sling we see him with in the opening. During DMC 4. we see Yamato has been shattered, but most of us can't understand why. Well, when Vergil was defeated by Mundus and turned into Nelo Angelo, he and Dante fought again, but Dante won and ended up killing him. When the island from the first DMC 1 was destroyed, it EXPLODED with demonic energy. The sword Nelo Angelo used was most likely the transformed Yamato, that was also caught in the blast, destroying it. The order of the sword gathers devil arms, and Yamato ranks highly in the power a devil arm can possess. So, when the order recovered the sword and saw that it was destroyed, they tried to restore it but simply couldn't. Now here is where it gets interesting, you see in the novel, it says that while Nero was stabbed by Angus, he began to remember a dream had been having recently. He was with Vergil in his subconscious, though Nero didn't know who the man actually was. Though Nero himself stated that the man had a cold glare , but with a touch of kindness. ( like the one a father gives to his son) Long story short, Nero and Vergil both wanted power. Nero wanted power to protect Kyrie, and subsequently gained his devil trigger and Yamato. What most people don't know is that,the specter behind Nero in D.T is actually his soul, which feels similar to Vergil's, as stated by Dante. You see, while this was happening to Nero, Dante was a few floors above Nero, and felt the " cry of a soul" that only those who shared the same blood could feel. At first, Dante thought it was Vergil, but remembered that Vergil was " no longer of this world" ( dead). What also hints towards Vergil and Nero being father-son is that Dante even says that Yamato had to stay in the family. Even more, the fact that Nero has Sparda's blood means that he had to get it from one of the two brothers. Hell, even his theme song is a similar to Nelo Angelo's battle themes from DMC 1.

3:29 I am the only one who thinks that is a premonition for devil may cry 5??? Nero says to Kyrie to run and get safe but it fails and lose his arm with the almost same scream. I am so hyped for the return of my favourite franchise :DDDD

Comparing this devil trigger to the DMC 5 version this one seems to be Nero only making his demonic aura surround him which gives him a power boost. The outline around him looks a lot like his devil trigger so I assume that the aura was a prelude to his true devil trigger.

I just noticed, Nero's voice is the same voice as Ichigo's in Bleach!! That makes him even more awesome if you're fimiliar with Bleach!! :D

This was basically the cutscene that confirm that nero is vergil's son

Vergil said "I need more power" during his final fight against dante in Devil may cry 3, so that either means the arm is vergil's remaining power, or that Nero simply unlocked his "father's" (vergil's) demonic power hidden within him. Just like in the DmC reboot when dante unlocked his father and mother's power within himself and had those subsequent flashbacks.

Never ever compare DMC4 with DmC. nothing in the DmC story relates to the original dmc's story. and for the people who thinks Virgil's son is nero give me a motherfucking official source? donot ever say 'I think that' we all know that all theory on fanbased that shows that nero is Virgil's son. but I've looking for fucking 4 goddamn years to find the original source and Capcom haven't really revealed any of that shit yet. if anyone have some plz send me the link

also, dante "refers" to nero being in the family, he says, (about yamato) "that sword once belonged to my brother..... it needs to stay in the family. and he later gives it to nero, thinking him as worthy.
