This video has done a great deal to dispel a lot of the FUD about it. I have been on the fence about purchasing one for a long time. This video has changed my mind.

Bought a used one about 8 months ago. Took it apart and cleaned out the crud by running warm RODI through the lines using a syringe from a Frank's F Aptasia box...cleaned out the cuvette. Not a single hiccup so far, so good. Think I'll order the DIY parts replacement kit since I've probably just jinxed myself. lol

Phosphate and nitrate would be nice for trending. At least in my opinion but I'm a big data lad who thinks it is beautiful. Data, daily assessment, re-test if needed, etc. Pull up the graphs or export the data and I can assess. Besides results it saves time and time is money :) Good episode. Thanks. Paul - continue being amazing.

They need to work on the dealer agreements and minimum order amounts. It’s all about supporting your LFS til it’s not.

I can’t believe we are still questioning the utility of automated testing for NO3 and PO4… You need to test for what can nuke your tank, and that is Alk, PO4 and NO3. Shure, Alk needs to be checked a lot more often but NO3 and PO4 are far more likely to nuke your tank if left unchecked than Cal or Mag. (Is there a use case for testing Mag 2x per day…?????). PO4 daily testing opens the window to 1) how is it trending 2) do I need to adjust my feeding? 3) Do I need to dose PO4 ? 4) When is my GFO depleted and needs to change 5) adjust lanthanum dosing, etc etc etc. NO3 testing daily also opens the window to nutrient trends, increase or decrease refugium lighting, adjust NO3 dosing, etc. But other than all that can be automated based on the results, the KEY REASON is to allow you to monitor the parameters that if left unchecked WILL mess up your tank.

I would pay big money for accurate, automated nitrate and phosphate testing.

Nitrate and phospahte are way too worried about. I might test mine twice a year at most. Been doing it this way for nearly 18 years. Nutrients are extremely misunderstood by 99% of hobbyists

I don’t own a trident but I own a Neptune Sky, the service dept is really good. Im having an issue with the light, outside of warranty, they still want to see it. I gave a deposit and they are sending me a replacement and I’ll send back my light. BUT I can’t get the replacement past Canadian customs without paying duty. I assume the same will be true with trident

Be handy if they brought out a 3 or 4 head smaller dosers to work alongside the trident. The DOS units are to big and noisy.

We definitely need a po4 no3 tester! I don’t see the actual challenge. They all work the same.(tank water and some reagents) Pleaaaaseeee neptune gods add a widget to our phones. A quick glance at my parameters would be amazing. It’s so basic and so common with apps and being that this is a system mainly used my smart devices there’s no reason why there isn’t one already

I believe you missed the question on Trident Controlled Dosing. The issue/fear is not when the Trident is working correctly. The potential risk comes when for some reason (pinched lines, clogged lines, clogged reagent, etc) you get false readings such as All being at 7,01 when it is actually at 8,00. Over time you would overdose All, especially idle the error is being created by some event gets amplified through time.

You would get an out of range error in that scenario and your DOS would go to your base dosing amount.

@@scottwilson7422 why would you get an “out of range” warning if the Trident is reading 7.0dKh when it actually is at 9,5dkh due to reading error?

@@vascojardim6703 In the trident controlled dosing task you set the value you want to maintain. The task then tells you the lower and upper limits that the apex will try to keep. Anything outside that range sends an alarm. Even if its a false reading, it is below the range and will send an alarm.

@@scottwilson7422 I had the Trident for over 2 years. I know how it works. You are missing the point. If the reading is not accurate for what ever reason, but still within the threshold, it will tell de DOS to add more Alk (if ir is a low reading) when actually the Alk value was at its correct level, leading to an Alk spike.

@@vascojardim6703 The range is not that large for you to a get a spike. In your example, if the reading was 7.0 and you set the DOS at 8.0, you would get an " ALK is less than" alarm. Here is an example from my system. "2023-08-0918:13:03 Alkx5 is less than 9.10 (8.66)"
