Nemesis Boulder Took Me 13 Years to Complete
Спорт
Pete visits his local Gritstone crag (Stanage) and tries to tick off some of the boulder problems he's either never done or hasn't even tried before
Note from Pete: I've tried Victorian Overmantle on and off over the years, never putting more than one session in a row on it, but certainly having numerous sessions if they are all added up together. It turned into a small nemesis boulder as I really considered it to be my style of move. It was a pleasure to finally get it done, a real old school classic.
Problems include
Help the Young V7
Help the Young sit V11
Victorian Overmantle V10

I'd love to hear of any other ascents of Victorian Overmantle 🙂

“Just crimp down on it….. like a crimpy thing” - Pete Whittaker, 2022 Love this more chilled video style, made me want to get outdoor bouldering again!
'This is the crucial hold' [ten seconds later] 'Didn't need that hold anyway..'
Cue Victorian Overmantle suddenly becoming the most popular climb in the Peak 😂

Pete's ability to make climbing look painful through facial expressions is unrivalled
13:46 very impressive one finger mantle, Pete!!
I love that in the spirit of a solo Pete video, the cameraperson makes him carry ALL of the crash pads between areas.

Pete on V7(7a+): "Total warm up!" Me: "TSAAAA! TSAAAAAAA!!!!"
My family were with Johnny a few years back at the Plantation and we had a look at Victorian Overmantel..he chatted through how to do it..I found it impossible..he was typically modest and said it just suited him..legend!
"Pebble is off!!" Haha that was a great moment. I'm not a rock climber but you really inspire me to keep challenging myself in my disciplines and interests! Thank you for that!
This is great content. Pete is humble and humorous as always. It’s great to watch climbers that you respect struggling and projecting, rather than just crushing all the time. I can’t believe that Pete doesn’t have a brush on him 24/7 (let alone not having one in his climbing bag)!
And he just says "here we go" when he finally sends it, you're a legend pete
This is something I love about climbing. The rock never changes and you can always go back to see your progression.

this is one of my favorite bouldering videos i have ever seen. your passion for a short, few move problem is infectious. hard bouldering isn't always tall or glamorous.
Knew that pebble was coming off first try. I need to show this to my son as Victorian overmantle is on his list. Although I think when he looked at it in person is scared him of a little. Great send Pete!
The quality of the wideboyz videos have improved so much lately! Loving watching you guys, keep it up!
I can’t believe How much I enjoy watching this process of problem solving. The struggle is real
Poor pebble waited a million years for it's moment
13:29 muttering to himself, "... and just frickin' crimp down on it, like an absolute... crimpy thing" xD
"Pebble's off" was the funniest shit XD
Great video! It’s cool to see you tackle an old nemesis
More of this please, love it
“Crimp down on it like an absolute………..crimpy thing” my sentiments exactly 👏🏻👏🏻
Love this kind of video!
It's nice to see that maximum effort at the end. I could tell that you were not going to give up.
Damn that was a battle. rip thumb pebble
RIP Pebble hold. Great video always a good day when you boys post.
So relaxing to watch! Love it! Keep Crushing
Beautiful place! Thx for sharing!
Great push, congrats 💪
I dont know why, but im smiling the whole Time watching his Videos. I Love his humor 😂😂
I'm a V7 gym only climber - this is really inspiring me to try some outdoor stuff! Thanks Wide Boyz
Hell Yeah! Well done, congrats! 👏
That was most enjoyable, really enjoy your commentary
This has such a strong lightly-hungover-sunday-got-nothing-better-to-do-wanna-go-bouldering? vibe. I love it.
Amazing effort on adding a new variant, I was proper willing you to top out, well done :)
What a happy coincidence! I'm trying to make a first ascent on a similar problem here in east Finland. The starting position the angle and spacing of crimps looks the same too. I think I have to use that "I think I have a second to switch left hand into a palm" -beta next time on the project! 🤩
Good effort Pete!
that was a nice video...very "pure" bouldering
Pete's been rocking over since a youth!!
Loved this!
Good effort mate!
Nice video my bro!!
Bravo Pete.
Loved watching the progression. I could definitely imagine what you were feeling on those last couple tugs…
That was awesome, those faces 😂 Great work Pete
My knee popped just by looking at this. Crazy Mantle!
Great informative video, thanks.
This seems like a magical place. As somebody who has only recently gotten into gym climbing, I would absolutely love to just watch all these people bouldering outdoors. (Who am I kidding, I would totally bring my shoes and make a fool of myself, but even just watching would be amazing.)

Congrats! Looks tricky.

Would love to see Magnus there with you one day! Fun video hehe you looked like Gollum making funny faces crawling up that boulder but props you finaly did it! ;D

Crackin vid as always. I'm planning on my first outdoor bouldering trip next week and stanage was on the shortlist, the sheer number of people you can see at the end though. Yikes. I don't want that many people around to see me being bad. :(

It'd be a real nice video if Magnus is ever in the UK again to show him around where your outdoor career sort of started. You guys just have the best chemistry in videos. Nice video this as well Pete!
awesome
Yo Pete, have you considered climbing on Staffin slips on Skye, it state's on UKC as the some of the best crack climbing in Britain! Worth a visit before the midge session starts 😅 +Gray Panther, is outstanding!

My hamstring is sore from watching this
That is what we call a variation.
Pete's beta: i found a nonexistent hold.
So many people on the boulders behind him and some many brushes there as wellhaha
Seems like you’ve gotta really like bouldering to boulder there
This content is so funny
Singing rock makes ankle protectors that might help that sock wrap stay in place, lol
"Pebbles off!"
Pete and a funny shaped hood, name a better combo.
Victorian outer mantel!
When I saw the title I thought it would be Tom on The Sheep...
I’m happy I can watch other people suffer on stuff like this and don’t have to do it on my own.
Bish bash bosh…we’ll done, Pete!
Part 2 with Tom, Toby, and Anna
on Victorian Overmantle, maybe use TC Pros for ankle protection?
Not one part of me wants to ever touch that mantle😂
no more pebble lol
If something makes it easer, you should know- it's legit!
I don’t know this to be 100% true but I heard years ago that a climber called Paul higginson did the move into the press position on Victorian overmantle completely, footless only putting a foot on when he’d gone with hands into the higher hold There may even be a photo of him on it in the original rockfax peak bouldering guide
