1988-2005 was just an awesome stretch for hip hop period, I was happy to see it evolve the way it did during that run

Totally Agree 👍
I definitely say 2000s it was just more in life to celebrate
That's an era that will never be surpassed no matter what. That was just insanely amazing era for music. The replay value of those songs proves that a lot

I member my closed-minded ass used to hate on southern hip-hop or “club-hop” for not being as deep and soulful and maybe even as raw as 90’s hip-hop or gangsta rap.. but time has given me a much more open-minded approach to life and let me just say that what I used to call “club-hop” became that time machine to some good ol’ times. Never fails when I’m litty😌👌

You made Nelly point. Those artists were at their peak in the 2000s With the exception on a few you named.
As an 80s baby who grew up in the 90s I disagree with DJ Paul and Nelly 👎🏼.
2001 was one of the best years of hip hop‼️ stillmatic, the blueprint, kiss the game goodbye, rr vol 3, mista don’t play ect just to name a view
Regardless of what your opinion is, this conversation is a W for hip hop. The fact that these two legendary artists are able to look back and have these conversations is proof to the longevity if hip hop.
90s was the hardest but 2000s was best. Jay z , dmx , ll coo j, nas , snoop, pac , etc. But 2000s had weezy and snoop, anyway 2000s music is amazng so much deep conten and club hits , just classics

Bingo
He didn't say it wuz tha best he said it wuz harder meaning the competition
I think we’re talking about 2 totally different things here. The hardest era in the sense of, most difficult to make it as an artist is definitely this era, as DJ Paul said. But the best era of music in regards to quality of music released, it was definitely the 90s. But I do think prior to this era, the 2000s(2000-2010) was the most difficult to make an impact because the quality of music was still very high when Nelly came out. But we’re talking about best and hardest to make it and that’s 2 different sides of the coin.
2000s had some heavy hitters frfr. He forgot about Jada, Fab, Busta and missy elliot
Why is everybody saying something different? They said the "hardest era"... meaning the competition was high. Not the best era or anything like that. It's a good example of people hearing what they wanna hear and not what was said or asked!!!

He right about my music not getting heard 😂😂😂 it's right here.
Man, I actually do miss that whole Crunk snap era of hip-hop. Even though it wasn’t lyrical, it was still fun to listen to. A lot of old heads from New York hated it. that’s why Nas dropped hip-hop is dead.
To be honest I say from 1992 till 2012 that was the best and greatest time for hip-hop and rap.

No 2012 was already trash, the rap game became trash when 50 Cent's prime ended in 2007, after that T.I was the only real one in 2008 then died

@@fettywapsmissingeye Lol only Kendrick and 50 and Eminem and G Unit was dropping great songs in 2012-2013-2014, the rest was garbage, Kendrick is great, but his álbums Is nothing compared to GRODT, Massacre, GRODT Sountrack, Power Of The Dollar Hell no
I agree wit dj Paul 💯
The competition was crazy back then.
It’s True Because That’s when He Was First actually Being Compared Sells And chart Wise With pop stars Like Nelly , Eminem, Jay Z , Ja Rule and 50 Cent Were Selling And Major Tour As They New Pop Stars !
I agree, nowadays you can just make a studio quality song from your phone or laptop or in this case remix a one hit wonder & that remix blows up the original
It was the best ERA, most of us still ride out to it in this AI ERA
DJ Paul gonna have a different opinion anyway because 3-6 was underground. They wasn't trying to be mainstream. DJ Paul and Juicy J started their own label, while Nelly was trying to get a record deal. So it was harder for Nelly. U even heard that from other artists who was signed to Universal at the time. A few artists were talking in their songs about how universal was only putting their money behind Cash Money and Nelly. They had to get millions from .3 or .5 cents per album.
2000- 2010 era was the toughest, it has about 5 to 7 rappers of ALL TIME
The 90s in my opinion but the 2000s are a very close second
@clarissawestbrook2203

I agree with this!
Definitely agree. 80's was the foundation, but a lot of it was kinda corny or too simplistic in hindsight, the 90's picked up but was still shaking off the 80's in the first half and the 2000's took the momentum built up by the 90's along with the power vacuum left by Biggie and Pac being gone and you had a recipe for an unstoppable decade. Every year it was banger after banger with arguably a different rapper on top each year before Lil Wayne really took over in the last few years of that decade.

It might have been but some would argue. And if it was it wasn't because of no damn 3-6 Mafia or Nelly hell.

Fact
2000s pop rap was not that cool but, thr crossover acts were incredible because most of the were cultivated in the 90s DJ Paul and 3 6 being one of those acts
90s was best for a lot the 00 were cool hit miss If you want the best of the 2008, literally going KZread and type in 6 hour, hip-hop mit's one of the first ones that pop-up listens to that whole thing.I do it at work sometimes
The 90's is up there.
00's - 10's was the best Hip - Hop. 🎶💽
90s was the hardest Era, 80s Golden Era, 2000s for me belongs to 50 Cent, Eminem, Ja Rule, Nelly and G Unit alone, the rest is just there.

Zulu swashbuckler. Nelly said that it was the hardest era to make music in...however as for as argument about if it was the best will it was alright infect I'm even willing to go as far as saying it was one of the last decades were talent actually still counted for something however at the same time you did start to see the start of the slow conditioning to the mediocrity🗣‼️
2000 did have some of biggest all-time.
The 90s was the best era. 2pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, Dmx, Wu-Tang, Outkast, Tribe etc.
Early 2000s to be specific. After 2005 it went down hill in terms of competition.
90's was the best for sure.
not sure of it was the best but it was definitely the peak if we talking record sales.
90s was the hardest
It's definitely the last great era of hip-hop hands down, afterwards the goat list is down to a hand or two if you're lucky.
Today's era is the hardest era to drop music. Because anyone and a lot of good/bad/terrible artists are flooding the market and fighting for bs streams/playlists. So most s8&& isnt selling. But the best era of hip hop was anything before Pac died. Because thats when most of the classic hip hop albums dropped. IDGAF about Nelly, Gibberish Eminem, Hov, Luda, Ja, 50, DMX, and anyone else he mentioned. Everyone one of those artists had club songs, star producers, etc., to be successful. Nothing hard about their bs formula. S*&& wasnt that easy, pre-1997. Nelly would have been lame af ithat Country Grammar bs was going up against E1999 Eternal Bone or some s78^^^ like that.
Nelly Definitely 👍🏿 heretes 90 2000 Dj Paul drop Ludacris lil Wayne Three 6 Malfe Deep Music 🎶 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
