SICK (1984) "Arguably the most metatextual episode of The Young Ones, the centrepiece of Sick is a sequence where Neil (last name revealed as Pye, for fans of trivia) has his parents drop in to visit. Except his parents are fully aware that he's part of a sitcom and disapprove that he's not in a nicer sitcom like The Good Life. Many references abound to the artificial nature of the set and the situation, while the conclusion sees the ultimate extension of the "Young Ones as cartoon characters" fixation of season two with Neil coming back to life three times over. The whole thing ends with the house being pulled apart to make way for a light entertainment chat show"

When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️

I've seen a couple Good Life episodes even over here in US. I got the drift of the show. I remember the episode where they come home from a party and their house had been ransacked. I loved the dramatic turn there. Surprised. I don't understand the the social connection that Viv freaks out on here but I just presume he is right and that if I were British I'd feel the same. Shame because I thought Felicity Kendall was cute and charming.

All the shows during this time were grey, to exemplify the rather drab and depressing backdrop to the daily lives of those inhabiting the British isles.

One thing about this episode that has bugged me for years... Is Neil's mum played by Patricia Routledge aka Hyacinth Bucket? I saw one comment that implies it is her but I've looked on her Wikipedia and I see no mention of her being in this episode but I swear to God that's her! If it isn't then the resemblance is uncanny! 😂
