THIS is diversity. Not the trivial difference in their complexion... it's the radical differences in their minds and manner of thought. Two drastically different brains, both equally important to society yet in incomparable ways

@@sackchaser0178 Not at all. Their visual attributes aren't the things make them the most different in contrast to one another. The diversity of humans is in language, intelligence, personality, the ways thay they think and live. Think of a pack of 8 billion normal, average Crayola crayons with only 3 different shades. Based on the way they look alone... That's not a very diverse box of crayons. If those crayons were from different parts of the world, made with different processes, different contents of wax, clay, and oil, and the lines they left behind in a drawing had a differing texture, grit, or feel... I'd be inclined to say that's a diverse selection of crayons in there. It's not about how they look. It's about what they're made of and how they work together in order to create something. It depends on the thing you are defining as "diverse" and why. If you definine the humans themselves, or how they look? Sure. But why would you want to measure that dimension first, when there's a better measurement of them? In short, the greater contrasts between two things is the measure of diversity. On a greater scale, the people themselves are far more different, far beyond the differences in how they look.

@@trentonstaggs2968But it's also important to recognize the fact that we've spent the last 500 years actively sorting people by the way they look, which has therefore changed the way that people think, talk, live, and exist. Their visual attributes may not be the most important ways that they differ from each other, but because of the way our society is built up, their visual attributes have heavily affected the attributes that are actually important. I hope we'll get to a point where the way someone looks doesn't affect those more important things, but we aren't there yet.

  • @sackchaser0178

@@trentonstaggs2968 If we lived in some borderless perfect utopia than that would be true. But you’re failing to recognize the cultural implications and how different societal pressures surrounding race unfortunately still exist. For example a white American and a black American could be similar or diverse in many different ways in terms of language, intelligence, personality, etc. And I’m not saying that race in and of itself plays any role in those characteristics. However they will have different lived experiences. For example due to historical factors and how our society is currently organized the white American is statistically more likely to come from money due to generational wealth. This means that on average the white American has better material conditions and in turn doesn’t have think about the same things the black American does. I’m short while the colour of our skin alone has nothing to do with the people we become and what makes us diverse, our material conditions and environment absolutely do. And unfortunately, due to some of the stuff I mentioned earlier, race does play a role in those factors to some extent. Hopefully that makes sense.

Neil’s comment on the educational system failing to inspire kids to want to learn is unbearably true. I only had about 5 teachers that I actually liked learning from. All the others either just gave us homework none of us wanted to do, or didn’t bother making lessons interesting in any meaningful way. Teachers have to have an undying passion for teaching. You have to want to inspire kids to be fascinated by our world and how things work. But most just can’t do that unfortunately. The way Neil talks about science and physics and philosophy with a tone of curiosity goes a long way with keeping one’s attention. If he was my college professor, I could listen to him lecture for hours. Teachers that find information they currently know fascinating helps garner interest in the long term in my eyes.

I never expected the best love life advice to come from Neil deGrasse Tyson. Nobody else is asking him that type of stuff. Literally choose 3-5 fundamental things that you look for in a partner; give each thing its own cordinates: and then multiply them to get volume number. The main reasoning is if you choose 3 any 1 of those 3 could fade with time so you need to determine the volume of example : Attractiveness/ ability to raise kids-physical love life/ kindess- empathy/ willingness or drive to work or do something productive. that is a 4d thing I thought of.
