NEIGHBORHOOD Federal Signal 2T22 Siren Test (w/Hillcrest Ambience), Rochelle, IL - 5/2/23

Ғылым және технология

*Since the ambience of Hillcrest's sirens (an ACA P-15 & ASC T-121) when activated is audible from the town of Rochelle, I decided to include that ambience in this video in addition to the highlight of the video itself. Those sirens start up at 0:08. However, if you're here for just the siren featured in this video, feel free to skip ahead to 2:29.
After getting word that Rochelle would be replacing their remaining Federal Signal 2T22s with more Sentry 10Vs later this year (if they've even done so by now), I decided to hit up the unrecorded 2T22 this month, which is located in a neighborhood on the southwest side of town. In fact, this 2T22 was the only one I could hit up today since the other 2T22, for some reason, has been relocated and disconnected from power. Rochelle seems to have this strange testing policy where instead of testing at or around the same time most sirens in Illinois test (10:00 AM), they wait until Hillcrest (the adjoined town north of here) tests their sirens before doing so themselves. Since Hillcrest tends to test later than 10:00, it would cause Rochelle to test even later.
For this reason, I decided to include an ambience of Hillcrest's sirens in addition to the 2T22 performing the monthly test. Right after Hillcrest's sirens wound down, as you'll see if you watch through the beginning segment of the video, some gentleman came up, blocked my shot of the 2T22, and questioned me for filming. However, it wasn't because I was filming with my Canon Vixia HF R800, but rather with my iPhone 14 Pro that I used to make a behind-the-scenes (BTS) video of the ambience of Hillcrest's P-15 & T-121. Like usual in these sort of situations, I explained to the gentleman about my siren hobby. From there, he basically accused me of filming other residents in the neighborhood when in actuality, I was filming an ambience of Hillcrest's system and that those people happened to be in the shot while doing so.
Thankfully, that gentleman left me alone before the 2T22 activated. This video not only includes an ambience of Hillcrest's system and the pleasant sound of a 2T22, but also greatly shows how paranoid our society has gotten ever since 9/11 when they see a video camera. Most sirens in Illinois (including the sirens in the towns of Hillcrest and Rochelle) are tested on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM for ~1 minute of alert.
