I like how everything in the 40's and 50s was huge, bizarre and ludicrously badass like who else would be creative enough to think of mounting an alarm siren onto a V8 hemi engine? UPDATE: Since I just got another reply trying to explain the functionality and reasoning for the existence of the Chrysler siren, I'm going to go ahead and point out that I already know about this siren. I read all I could about it for the past 15 years and am fully aware of its purpose and locations. I don't know. Putin's been blowing hot air for years, and his glorious Soviet war machine has fallen flat on its ass. Repeatedly. They're at the point where they're dragging out 50s-era tanks from storage. Also, it's well-known that lots of Russian nuclear material disappeared after the Soviet Union fell, bought by whoever had the cash to pay for it. Ditto for tanks, jets, choppers, especially in their satellite nations. I'm not foolish enough to call them a paper tiger, but this isn't the Russia we faced in the 70s. We'll make it.

I heard one at Cerro Negro in Glendale, California, once a month when I was in grade school in the 1960's. Several local sirens sounded at 11 AM on either the first Tuesday or a Thursday in the month if I remember. The Chrysler Bell ran for another 2 minutes or so after the other closer pole mounted air raid sirens went silent. I would guess it to be 16 miles away. The sound itself was terrifying and foreboding, like doom was at hand. These rotated on a chain driven turntable so the sound got louder and softer as it turned. I have no doubts that the sound carried 25 miles. I was on my bike leaning against a telephone pole waiting for my buddy to arrive one morning. The Federal Signal air raid siren on top of the pole went off and it scared the hell out of me. Its still on top the pole by Pinewood School. The hemi powered one is still on top of the hill at Cerro Negro.

Given how much improvement there has been in audio technology, I would bet that an electonic siren could beat that now. We have car stereos that can hit nearly 180db, class D amps that are more than 90% efficient, neodymium magnets that are much stronger than anything that could have been used back then and better high temperature adhesives to hold the voice coils together, carbon fiber speaker cones and 3D printing that can make horns that could bever have been made back then. Nice video, the sound level on the first one is the same decibel level as a 747 at take off down a runway, my brother use to work in aircraft maintenance in Montreal and showed me one of these retired sitting in a fenced in lot belonging to the DOD and rusted to pieces, a shame in Canada they were replaced by electric motor powered units 150 feet above the ground on massive steel poles with a custom concrete foundation, there was one about a mile north of my parents house and when they would test them they would put in the newspapers and on every radio station 5 days or so leading up to the test and we were all told to stay indoors during the tests so no one would get hearing damage and they would get up to speed much faster than the old Hemi motors did and seemed a bit louder to, they've all been removed sometime back in the 70's or 80's, bygone era

Very stressful night And to this day they have not declassified what happened to cause us to go to DEFCON 1 that night

Man… I love sirens but…at the corner of West Virginia (Ridgeley), there is a siren that plays every week for whatever damn reason and there are people who live right next to it. It makes me deaf half a mile away. I’m not sure how those crazy people who live there can tolerate that damn thing.
The Chrysler air raid alarm gives me the chills...

FINALLY a modern high quality test video of a Chrysler.

the average siren on the roof of an old firehouse is 5-10 HP electric. Keep that in mind when seeing one of these running 150 HP.

Got to hand it to this guy, he let her rip full RPMs. Most owners of these Chrysler sirens are afraid to go full throttle! 🚨🚨🚨👍

Hi Dale, I have been waiting many years to see a video like this of your stuff. The sirens run nice although my trailer and Chrysler look terrible. You guys got the best toys!
We truly stand on the sholders of giants...
6:50 I swear I heard oh “ooooh yeah” sex sound in there from the whistle. 🤣🤣🤣
Loved that Chrysler straight 8 sound and the siren, his nearest neighbour is 10 miles away and grateful for it.

Full-send on the Chrysler!!!
AWESOME Hemi sound!!
Love how that thing roars to life and shakes off decades of dust as it shocks the neighbors to the core!😂
The best perspective of how loud the Chrysler is, would be how the loud open exhaust are suddenly drowned out even at low speed.
I picture the neighbors running to take cover :D lol

all the cows 9 miles away like "tha hell?another human war?fck I need to keep my milk safe"
I remember when we had these on top of all the firehouses in the cities and towns around the SAC bases and silos They were on a gear drive that went around 360 degrees When it sounded we had to drop everything and run to the bunker and seal the blast doors and air intake valves Very very stressful I still remember the night we got the official SAC EAM to standby around 1am They never told us what happened But I think we were closer to WW3 in that hour than we have ever been before I heard from pilots that thry were on the runway running and they were radio silence waiting for the green light in the tower If they had gotten that light, 15 minutes later they would have dropped all their nukes on the targets in the western hemisphere. Very stressful night And to this day they have not declassified what happened to cause us to go to DEFCON 1 that night
