Negreanu DESTROYS Him!!!!!!!!!

Daniel Negreanu is known to be a master in the live poker arena and here he perfectly reads the situation to lay a trap on the river and then attempts to get extra value. Can world class poker professional Nick Petrangelo sniff out this extremely strong poker hand and make a disciplined fold on the river?
Jonathan discusses how this poker hand is played differently due to the immense ICM (Independent Chip Model) pressure with just 3 people left in a huge tournament. Andrew ‘LuckyChewy’ Lichtenberger is the shortest in chips which should prevent Petrangelo and Negreanu from playing a huge pot when LuckyChewy should be all-in and at risk next.
This is likely why Petrangelo decides to check behind on the J97 flop with a gutshot and two overs. He does not want to play a huge pot at this current stage in the poker tournament.
Daniel Negreanu is 3rd on the all time money list with over $50,000,000 in total live earning. He has 6 WSOP bracelets. He went on to win this event for his biggest career cash to date for $3,300,000.
Nick Petrangelo is a 36-year-old professional poker player from America, he has over $29,000,000 in live tournament winnings putting him 19th in the all-time money list, and 2 WSOP bracelets. Nick came 2nd in this event for $2,000,000
This Super High Roller Bowl VII was held in October 2022 from inside the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The $300,000 buy-in attracted a field of 24 players and created a prize pool of $7,200,000 million.
Get ready for another thrilling poker hand from the Super High Roller Bowl V tournament, held in the prestigious PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas. This tournament had a jaw-dropping buy-in of $300,000, and featured some of the biggest names in the poker world. This particular poker hand involves two of the game's greatest players: Nick ‘Nicky P’ Petrangelo and Daniel ‘KidPoker’ Negreanu. With the blinds at 25,000/50,000, Petrangelo, holding KsQh, raised to 110,000 on the button, and Negreanu, with KcTs, decided to defend his big blind. The flop came Js 9h 7d, and both players checked. On the turn, the Qd gave Petrangelo top pair, but Negreanu now had the nut straight. He decides to lead out for 175,000. Petrangelo calls, and the pot grows to 645,000. The river is the Qs, and now Petrangelo has trips, and Negreanu now checks to lay the trap. Petrangelo bets 180,000, and Negreanu check-raises to 580,000. Petrangelo takes his time but ultimately he makes the call, and this huge pot was a huge defining moment to help catapult Negreanu to his biggest ever win of $3,300,000 for the Super High Roller bowl!

    I've been watching Daniel play for a long while now and he has amazing reads. That said somehow sometimes he manages to make a slip and lose focus and then lose everything. When he is laser focused he wins big as long as he stays that way as he did in the Super High Roller, I just happened to be there that night and he was in the zone.

    I think the raise was spot on. 3 handed, second place I feel like NP played his hand face up - AA KK AQ KQ KJ Q10 1010. What he almost certainly doesn’t have is QQ QJ Q9 K10. That river should have made NP really consider the payout difference between 2nd and third. What was the cash value of those chips in terms of tournament place?

    After just calling on the dinamic turn Petrangelo capped on 2 pairs and sets, that's why it was an easy raise for Negreanu on the river.

    Agree with most stuff but the flop favours Daniel in 3 handed. Button raises so many weak low and disconnected hands. A lead out range is fine with K10, J9 as he can easily call a raise. But check raising those hands becomes a nightmare when you get re re raised

    I don't think our opponent has a full house unless it is exactly QJ. I guess you figure AQ/KQ might call a jam so that is probably the best play, although I guess you sometimes run into QJ. But this is a tournament and you only have so many hands so I'd side on being aggressive and shipping it in.

    I was going to raise to 600k. I think you have to go for value there and you cant go crazy like pot or an overbet bc then you’re only getting called by full houses really (idk much abt icm but i assume especially with ivm this is the case) And theres absolutely no reason to min raise or something because whatever is going to call a min raise for 1/2 pot will call a 3/4 pot raise. Basically you just plan to raise fold if you get 3bet large and cry raise call if it’s a small 3bet? although i doubt that would happen lol

    Very interesting hand. This hand is a cooler as KQ is one of the premium bluff catcher blocking straight and boat. But the the sizing choice of 1/3 river bet put Daniel in a situation where he cannot check/shove because of the ICM. I think this sizing is very wise at 3left. And retrospectively (always easy to say) Daniel, as the chip leader should rather build a range that would front door a potsize bet-ish sizing on the river against someone who block bet IP on the river. It makes me think that the winner in this hand is Petrangelo for only loosing 900k in a situation that could have cost him the tournement or at least 2/3 of his stack.

  • @Badbentham

    @Badbentham

    I feel that Danny played his exact hand quite decently , and that he probably extracted the most value that he could: Checking helps to protect his range, and if he should face a huge polarizing River bet, then he can elect to just call. - As it is kind of an issue that Petrangelo should still have a Nut Advantage, where it is at least possible with his chosen line that he has any of QQ, QJ, Q9, and JJ. While Danny only ever should have QJ and Q9; 77, maybe. That said: I would be most curious to know whether it was a valid option for Petrangelo to ever turn a Q (as Nut blocker) into a bluff; however, the K in his hand may actually spoil it, by blocking parts of Danny's assumed folding range.

  • @PierrePalsterman

    I don't exactly know how Daniel is building his 3beting rang and Petrangelo his Cbeting range on the flop. But after flop goes x-x in single raise pot, P. shouldn't have many set left and the same about over pair. Then after leading the turn D. shouldn't worry too much about protecting his x-b-x line. Like i said my thinking was about exploiting the 1/3 sizing bet of P. If P. strategy is to bet small IP on the river, you should adapt by finding plays that allow you to take the most EV possible. You should use x-raise line to gain more EV than a front door betting.

    He would have to fold. Nick is representing a full house (or god forbid quad queens) if he 3 bets or jams on the river.. Nick turning his trip queens into a bluff? Tricky tricky, he would be afraid that DNegs is too polarised.. DNegs' raise is often a full house in that spot. So just calling is safer.

  • @Rude_i_Wredne
    @Rude_i_Wredne Жыл бұрын

    I think there is a world for a thin raise, Dnegs is defending his BB as a chip leader, which means he has a really wide range, thus a lot of weak queens in his range, compared to Petrangelo, who will only have broadway queens, which might lead Nick to call a small raise.

    Definitely would raise. As played, Nick doesn’t have many full houses. Two pair would have raised on the turn, a set or a double gut shot like Daniel had would have bet the flop. A marginal made hand would check behind. So my analysis would be Nick has a queen, and is going for value. A decent raise has a good chance to get called.

    It makes sense for DNegs to raise. Logic follows, you check, he bets smallish meaning it's very likely he is betting value as he assumes your hand is weak and wants to get paid. Had Petr bet a large bet it would suggest Petr trying to steal it. So the question is, how good is Petr's hand? Not likely QQ, maybe QJ? Not likely. So DNegs raises enough that a hand like Q-Q-Q will call. Or maybe AQ.

    Problem w/that is, the only worse hand that's just calling a bet that big on the river is exactly what he has; anything he's holding that can't beat 3 of a kind is folding, while anything better is raising all-in, which then puts Daniel to a brutally difficult decision w/what is like, what, the 8th nuts on the river? We can see the others' cards, they can't (although sometimes w/Daniel i'm not certain that applies to him, but assuming he can't). I don't think Patrangelo plays a boat the way he did here, specifically on the flop, but still, he *could* have flopped bottom set & made a full house on the river, or had a hand like QJ in which he would've played perfectly in this spot, had that been the hand he was holding.

    @@bappo795 I don't think Daniel is betting this line on a stone bluff, nor do I think Patrangelo is hero calling a bet that size w/3.5 mil on the line, 3 handed (IIRC) at the final table where the buy In was $300k. Maybe if this were a cash-game you can consider a big bluff here in this spot but not at this stage in a tournament, & not w/either of these 2 players specifically. So no, I don't think Daniel ever bluffs that big, nor do i see Patrangelo calling down 3/4ths pot (a huge percentage of what he has behind) w/anything less than trips. Maybe he calls a thin value bet w/a JX type hand, but no chance for 3/4ths of a huge pot.

  • @Kevgamer88

    Considering your three-handed at a final table and you hit a straight, but you no longer have the nuts on the river. I love Daniel's check to see Nick's action. After the small thin bet from Nick, I love the idea of raising. You clearly need to get value from your hand and you only lose to QJ which is less likely that Nick has since he didn't lead out on the flop. If Nick would have bet pot or bigger then you can reasonably call in Daniels spot with the straight
