The older I get, the more this beauty resonates. After Neil's Passing, it hits like a sledgehammer.
Just realized that it was Aimee Mann on this track!! Pure 80s!!
Aimee Mann is the only person to ever sing on a Rush album other than band members. Pretty cool on the resume.

I came to mention this fantastic and emotional video. It is a tremendous tribute to a great drummer. Please review it.
The woman in the video (and singing on the song) is Aimee Mann, formerly of Til Tuesday (you've previously reviewed their song "Voices Carry"). Her solo stuff is great, and she should be included on one of your Female Fridays. Try her song "Mr Harris" for starters.

As a 51 YO, I bought this album (actually a cassette) the day it came out. I always liked this song, but the lyrics didn't really resonate as a teen. But the older you get, the more Neil's words hit home. Now I think, lyrically, it's one of their best.

Flat out wordsmiths! "Summer going fast night growing colder. Children growing up, old friends growing older". Dang I love RUSH!!
This song is a testament to the lyrical genius Neil Peart. This song has a totally different meaning to me at 60 than it did at 20. Simply brilliant writing.

Absolutely one of my favourite Rush songs as well. I've been through a horrible divorce and suffered psychological abuse but I did have some great times as well. This song sort of sums all that up for me. "Lakeside Park" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/oJqkvKmtopyombg.html ) just as much. You have to enjoy happy moments when you have them and hold them in your heart. Rush's songs can tear you apart. The song "Tears" (kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqp2preamJy3mZM.html ) from 2112 is just as beautiful but I love rock out tracks like Limelight just as much. Fabulous band and I still listen to them often. Please, please Jay and Amber, can we have a really LONG special video and cover Rush's 2112?
From what I remember, Aimee Mann was the only person they’ve ever allowed on their albums other than the band. What an honor for Aimee.
These guys were always the cream of the crop over all bands. Musicians band. I still cant believe neil is gone. RIP.
Beautiful lyrics by Neil. He really outdid himself here. When you get older lyrics like this have extra meaning. Nice reaction folks.

You can't go wrong up to "Signals" (82). After that hit or miss. "Signals" waa a draatic change of styles but still had the same energy as the earlier material. After that sort of sounds contrived. Interesting because exact same scenario( and time period) with ZZ Top- Eliminator waa the ultimate 80's crossover. After that ( Afterburner etc) way way over produced. Yes-90125- perfect 80's crossover The follow up " Big Generator " not so much .on a positive all 3 later put out some much much better material BTW Amy Mann ( on Times Stand Still) is from my hometown of Boston. In 1989 I often saw her & Peter Wolf( J Giels) hanging out. What an odd couple😂😂 I suggest Rob Sqaud check more from Signals ( 82) New World Man Analog Kid
I was 22 when this song came out, and I loved it. At 58 now, this is my favorite Rush song. So poignant. 'Children growing up Old friends growing older' Wow.

Best band there has ever been
This was probably Rush at their ‘poppiest’ time, musically. And it’s still a deeply philosophical song; introspective, a bit wistful. A wondering of what might have been missed living the ‘fast life’ of a rock star and desiring to slow down to be able to appreciate it more fully.
Thank you for continuing down this rabbit hole. Their catalog is enormous. Try “Distant early warning”, “Red Sector A”, “Big Money”, and “Roll the Bones”

Distant Early Warning is sooo underrated.!!!! Incredible song.
When I was younger, I mainly appreciated Rush for their music. Now as I get older, I have really grown to appreciate Neil's lyrics. This is one of his best. The song perfectly captures the feeling of nostalgia---that odd emotion of feeling happy and sad at the same time.
I just realized after all these years that Aimee Mann is the female singer in this song and video. Wow! I think that is her. Of course she was with Til' Tuesday and you reacted to her video Voices Carry.

Playing bass and all? I know this feeling. The day I figured out how to play "Force Ten" from this album was the day I figured that I might have a future on this instrument after all.
This album was so poorly received by the long term Rush fans back in the day. Hold Your Fire was considered new wave shift and major break from their Moving Picture days which was peak peak Rush and this appeared to be a giant fall from that - "modern Rush Lite". I look back now and this song tends to bring tears to my eyes. I've had this album for so long, bought it a couple of times on tape and CD, and these songs still come around on my playlists and are so much salve for my soul and a call back to my simpler times. I never suggest this album to people who haven't heard Rush yet because it can't be appreciated for what it is without the hard edges and skill that came before, like 2112 and Moving Pictures. Can't believe it's been over 35 years since it came out.
Geddy Lee and Rush -- the inspiration that allowed me to pick up a bass years ago and learn to play! Still inspires me today!
Rush is the only group I've ever seen in concert... I wasn't allowed to go to concerts as a teenager and couldn't afford it when I was older... and they and the fans were absolutely awesome!
Hey, Jay and Amber, the woman who you heard singing along is Aimee Mann, who's the lead vocalist/Bassist of Til Tuesday, whom you've reacted to
This song is a surprising highlight of the Professor's drumming ability. Focus just on the drums here, and you'll notice him throwing in little fills throughout. There's never the pure drumming bombast of Tom Sawyer or YYZ, but it's constant and ongoing throughout the entire song.
Amber is an incredibly insightful young lady. I love her take on things. Almost always on the money. I’ve been a Rush fan for over 40 years and I never get tired of listening to them. Their level of talent is unmatched. The older I get, the more these lyrics mean.
This is the ONLY Rush song that features another vocalist - the amazing Aimee Mann, who was the lead singer for Til Tuesday, the band responsible for "Voices Carry", which you guys reacted to 8 months ago. Her vocals add a wonderful pop to this track!
A great song from Canada's best. The lyrics are very meaningful I would say. You expressed the meaning well. Neil was such a great lyricist. Nice reaction well done..
the girl singing is Aimee Mann from 'Til Tuesday
I loved Aimee Mann's voice in this. As I get older the more time I spend processing the journey that for me began in the 50s. It remains a lot to take in. This song captures that for me. But I haven't stopped making memories.
I’ve been a Rush fan from the time they played at our high school in early ‘70’s, then having 2 personal interactions with them in the mid to late ‘70’s. When I first heard this song, I thought it had a ‘catchy ‘ tune. Now as I’m in my mid-upper sixty’s the lyrics and meanings bring a whole new meaning and hit me harder. In your later years you will understand this since you have young children. Thanks Rob and Amber for doing this.

Rush are amazing!! Aimee Mann has some great songs you should check out like “That’s just what you are” and “I should have known”
I hope you guys can please add their song “countdown”. It’s a very cool song telling the story of the first space shuttle launch, including actual NASA radio comma. Also, that’s Aimee Mann ftom til Tuesday doing the vocals on this song!

I love that song!! It's so visual! You can see everything Geddy is singing about so vividly. My 12 year old daughter loves this song, too!
I can't listen to this song without crying, Neil's lyrics cut deep on this especially as I get older. My daughter was wondering what was wrong with me as I was running on the tread mill, one day listeing to this song balling my eyes out. Little did she know, that balling was indirectly related to her and her sister as I see them grow up and knowing one day they will fly the coop.
That’s Aimee Mann on vocals
One of the best quotes I ever heard about Rush (my fav. band of all time, whom I was lucky to see live twice) was "The greatest guitarist, bassist and drummer in Canada, and they're all in the same band. How does that happen?"
Children growing up, old friends growing older... one of the deepest lines of any song.
The Princes of Progressive Rock. Literary Genius. Poetic Bliss. And three of the top musicians in their trade.
I could seriously listen to this a dozen times in a row and not get tired of it. Marathon from their Power Windows album is another great song from this era, one that occupies a similar space in my mind.

Great song and great collaboration with Aimee Mann.
You guys really need to check out another Canadian band called the Headstones!!! Cubically Contained, Tweeter and the Monkey Man, When Something Stand for Nothing. The lead singer Hugh Dillon does a lot of acting...he was the sheriff in Yellowstone.
That's Amiee Mann from Til Tuesday singing back up..

Another must listen is The Pass. A powerful song with a powerful message. One of Geddy's favorites.
Rush moving around in this video feels like when you'd use the motion tracker in Mario Paint.
“Freeze this moment a little bit longer.” always gets me!! 😩
The female singer was Aimee Mann from Till Tuesday. Gorgeous song.
Lot of people think rock music is just nonsense, but the 60's 70's artist had something to say. Love you guys❤
The garden, digital man and losing it should be your next rush reaction
Alright my babies.... You've hit the jackpot once again ‼️ I had the privilege to see Rush on their Presto tour. We all take father time for granted. That's why it's nice to lay back and chill. One thing for sure is, you can't stop the hands of time. 🔥💯🔥🎼🎶🎤🎸🥁🎸😁👍🏼
She said stop and smell the roses, I say stop and pet the kitties. 😻
What I like in this song is how the lyrics are about slowing down to look around you, and the music gets faster and faster. Opens with a slow tempo, then picks up and then zooms away on the chorus. And the final moments, they go more and more intense, while telling you to slow down.
Now you are TALKING. My favorite RUSH song ever! The amazing backing vocals of Aimee Mann. I’ve owned this album in every format since the day it came out. As an older man, this just becomes more and more and more significant every year. Also, pls, check out Icon for Hire “Last One Standing”. You will be blown away.
Last time I saw my grandfather before he died, as I was driving back home this song came on my playlist and I had to pull over to the side of the road .. I was weeping uncontrollably. Rush has so many songs that evoke strong emotions, which is why they're one of my favorite bands of all-time. Thank you so much for reacting to this one!!
I forgot how much I loved this song!
Geddy is, by far, one of the greatest Bassists of all time!
This is 80s Rush, Geddy is legendary on bass, same as Neil is to drums. Neil writes all of the lyrics.
I haven't thought about this song in forever, great song!
Aimee Mann formerly of ‘Til Tuesday sang the female vocals. I always loved this song too.
It's my favorite Rush song. Hands down. As a 44 year old man, this hits differently than when hearing this song at 8 years old. And yes. There are times I wish time would slow down and stand still.
Thanks for playing this, it was so much better than I remembered! Really cool seeing Aimee Mann with them!
This is I believe the only time someone not in Rush to sing on a song. Aimee Mann. She has a great voice.
Rush is without a doubt, one of the greatest power trios ever. Their music is very complex as was stated by Geddy Lee himself. One of my favorite albums is "2112", especially the 20 minute title song '2112', which is in 7 parts. One fantastic piece of writing.
The only rush song with a guest. The female is Aimee Mann of Til Tuesday.
That’s Amy Mann lead singer for the band Til’ Tuesday! Great female Friday candidate!!
I love this song by one of my favorite groups. I saw them live, around '76, when they opened for Blue Oyster Cult. It was an awesome concert. I would love for you to react to Rush's great song "Between the Wheels," but I really want for you guys to react to some more Yes. Back me up folks! Most Rush fans also love Yes, just like the members of Rush do, and it would be great to watch you react to more masterpieces by one of the greatest bands ever, like "Yours Is No Disgrace" "Starship Trooper" or "Perpetual Change." Please, more Rush, but also more YES!! Two of the greatest bands ever!!
That's Aimee Mann from Til Tuesday. Great voice to be added to Rush.
'Til Tuesday frontwoman Aimee Mann briefly sings in each chorus of the song, marking Rush's first collaboration with another vocalist
So much meaning for me. This is my favorite Rush song and I can't listen to it without a feeling of nostalgia and melancholy.
The girl that sings Time stand still part her name is Aimee Mann she had a group in the 80s called till Tuesday first song is voices carry I believe you reacted to that she dated Geddy Lee for a little bit also she has other good songs What About Love, coming home so hopefully you'll give those a listen
The blond lady working the camera and singing along with Geddy is Aimee Mann from the group 'Til Tuesday whom you already reacted to, their song, "Voices Carry".
Arguably the best 3 man band ever! R.I.P. Neil.....Thanks for decades of phenomenal music!
Where my kids know who Rush are, I introduced my youngest son’s friend, he is sixteen, to 2112 yesterday, to quote his test message, “Your Dad didn’t disappoint!”. Thank you for exposing more people to the genius that is Rush!
The old saying is....”the past is over and done, the future hasn’t gotten here yet, so all we really have is the here and now.” This song fits that so true!
90s Rush.... Welcome. The female voice is Amiee Mann from Till Tuesday.
Great react! Beautiful lyrics One of my favorites from Power Trio! The best band ever!

Yes - Some are suggesting other songs, but I think they would both most enjoy “Coming Up Close”, “That’s Just What You Are”, “Stupid Thing” (slow, but a great, plaintive vocal) or “Freeway”. Jay would not like “Pavlov’s Bell” or anything else slow (except maybe “Wise Up”).
This is my fav Rush w/ Til Tuesday singer 🔥❤️💃💃👍👏👏
Aimee Mann of Til Tuesday doing the female vocals I think. Sings like an angel.
"Turn the Page" from this album is such a dynamic track and it truly is a "rush" to experience. Highly recommended!!
Aimee Mann is from Richmond, Virginia, USA🇺🇸 NOT Canada!!! She’s a genius and prolific singer-songwriter. She is married to brilliant musician Michael Penn, brother of actor Sean Penn.
Rush was always pushing the boundaries of their "sound." Every album had a different twist in their playing. Of course the lyrics are always deep.
I'm so happy to see so much love for Aimee. Like many others here, I have suggested her solo work for Female Friday. I'd start with "Pavlov's Bell. And of course, it's just an amazing Rush song. 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌
time does standstill in our memories. when you are young it is hard to stop and smell the roses. getting older that is when you wish what the lyrics say "Freeze this moment a little bit longer. make each sensation a little bit stronger."
Female vocals performed by Aimee Mann, co-founder of the band 'Til Tuesday (most known for the hit single "Voices Carry")
The song Open Secrets from this album absolutely….110% shows they are incredible musicians!! Probably the best song on the album.
After so many albums with this magical trio, it was such a treat to have Aimee sing with them on this song, and she blended in perfectly on this song. In my opinion RUSH was progressive rock mostly in the 70s and a bit of the early 80s but moved away from that during this album HOLD YOUR FIRE and a couple of albums before also. They loved experimenting with new sounds and yet keeping that signature RUSH sound. Can you try reacting to one of their earlier tracks called LAKESIDE PARK which was a classic RUSH song with a lot of heart. Thanks and keep smiling!🇨🇦🎸👍🙂
I saw this tour in NYC in 1988. What a time to be a music fan and a RUSH fan 💙 Neil Peart and his heartfelt lyrics.
The lyrics are so wistful, yet the song has such a happy vibe. Some at the time when this album (and the previous one) came out criticized them for "softening" their sound and making it more radio-friendly ... And in a sense it was true, but to me it always felt like the subtext was ... "Please don't stereotype us as a metal or even a hard-rock band; there are countless styles of rock, and we can master them all."
A Farewell to Kings is another underrated 70's classic by them thst also has Closer to the Heart on it ,as well .
