After setting up all the boxes and automation the next best thing I figured out was to make a couple "deposit" boxes. These are just boxes with automation turned on, but clear all items from it. Villagers will take everything in these boxes and sort them out to other chests automatically. Really helpful when you just come back from mining or roaming and extremely helpful if you have friends that drop in to play and then don't have to learn how you've got chests sorted

@@VincentsVideos Have all your boxes set up for automation how you want them. Then the "deposit boxes" are just boxes with all the item permissions cleared out. So the units will see that box as nothing is allowed in it. Everything that's turned on in your other boxes will be removed and sorted out automatically

You need one clear space between planted saplings to ensure they both grow. Also, if you only plant one type of tree, you end up using less storage.

I like having all crafting and supply boxes in one smaller area so I can load up boxes and craft anything in one shot. The villagers have their own workstations at their house/business. Then I have a central warehouse with chest rows. The chests in my super-factory build area are set to only have a couple stacks of each thing I may need at high priority. The blacksmith, for example, has his own forge, anvil, etc and a single chest with a single stack of metals, wood, etc. I can set build orders on HIS workstation without him wandering to mine and using my supplies. I also keep a dump-box (2 actually) next to the teleport obelisk so when I come home I can dump off items and villagers will take them to the appropriate place. and now that I have this efficient city all set up and running..........I dont need it for anything because I beat it and got the achievements...I dont know how to make "I have a fully functioning city now" the midgame and still have a meaningful endgame, but I hope they figure something out for that. It was a blast making it and getting there, but it never feels needed and you are OP by the time you are completely done with it.

I believe I saw in other guides and videos - to access the food chest, you don't need to build an entire allow access path leading to the chest, but just need a small plot of access that envelopes the food chest and a tile in front of it (no access path connecting the chest to the separate work areas needed). The villagers will then take any path to that food chest. If true, it would carry over to other universally needed materials like wood, ingots, etc. Will test later

thanks for the upload, i found it very helpful getting my automated farm going. i havent learned how to get them to stop farming when they hit the max items in the chest besides restricting farming zones. Your Husbandry part was also very helpful. i was stuck on how to set the animal limit it was only letting me expand or shrink, then i rewatched your video again and saw how you did it and bam. Ive got everything but an alchemist at the moment going. Thanks again keep up the good work 👏 🙌 👍

I wonder why you think that centralized chests in the middle of the seattlement is bad? It make sense, having the area restrictions tools, but its cumbersome go through the entire base to look for something in a specific chest. Nice videos!!!

Aaah. That's where you set the animal control :D I've built a trap system complete with fireworks notification in all my pins to maintain some fresh meat income but the animals are super suicidal. You build a pin encompassing half of the island and a little, hard-hard-to-get-in suicide booth with pressure plate. Spawn 20 cows and they'll waltz into that single square in pairs so I'd come from boss fight to a fresh burger, but also a single cow survivor 😅

Just found and bought this game today! So fun on pc and steam deck :)

Not a fan of these games but really enjoying watching you play it nick. Defo a hidden gem

Probably a bit late, but it might help someone else; sheep, like cows & pigs will breed by themselves as long as they're in a pen together with a feeding trough (with food in it). After that's all set they'll begin to tame, after they hit 100% and become tame animals they'll breed themselves. After that you need an animal handler settler, and set the pen as a husbandry area (settler menu, assign work, assign area) then they'll auto shear (and milk in the case of cows).

Set a husbandry area (in the settler menu, under assign work) :)
