if ya'll didnt know, Most bootlegs are made in the exact same factory as the original. They work under the table without the big wigs knowing, after hours. look it up! so you are getting the real deal, just a lazy version.

​​​​@@rolandorodriguez9625some are. A few years ago I purchased a set of the bright green 'toon colorways, and they came in plastic trays but no outer box. But they are the exact same turtles as my "real" ones. Two of them just have paint defects. So I think they're just rejects. And this is common of anything that's mass produced. You throw out a certain number for quality control. Now my friend bought a movie Michelangelo on eBay for too cheap and brought it over to ask me, because he wasn't sure, but it was blatantly a bootleg with sloppy plastic and sloppy paint. Weird world. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Low key, really liking that Michelangelo has that looking to the side Vs straight forward. Reminds me of the TMNT 2 poster.

I just traded for a set and they’re actually pretty nice. The only difference being the color. I gave up finding the real things in stores because I stupidly passed on the GameStop ones and the Walmart ones are impossible to find. So these are a nice alternative for me. I’d like the official releases eventually but if I don’t get them I won’t be angry. I had heard horror stories about their articulation and such but mine had pretty tight joints (in a good way) and an ab crunch.

i gotta say you really helped me out here. i just got a leonardo that i bought off ebay in the mail and i was really worried he was gonna be a knockoff. ebays littered with them and im usually pretty good at pointing them out but this guy had me genuinely stumped and if it wasn't for your tips i would've never been able to figure it out. thanks a lot, dude. i owe you one

Sometimes I believe that all toys come from the same factory. The figures that do not meet a high standard are sold as B-goods and bootlegs. Anyway. Thanks for the video :D

In my experience, the bootleg ones break waaaay easier. Happened to me from posing them. A lot of the quality difference it's hard to see, cause it's the choice of plastics, and precission of molds on the joints, etc.

Definitely. I got a bootleg Leo and the point where his blade and handle meet is really flimsy and started bending easily and I’m terrified to even mess with it. Posing it is also really difficult

Are the bootlegs really any more fragile and prone to breaking than the official NECA figures? NECA can make some crappy low tier figures that break straight away, too.

I have two versions of these Neca TMNT figures, one set has a transparent top handle on the box and the other with black handle. Both figures are identical. The bootleg boxset is easily identifiable by Mikey's eyes not looking straight and the darker orange Nickelodeon logo on the box.

The articulation in the shell is in the bootleg versions you just have to release the shell as it's sealed by paint. It's very easy to do with no damage to the figures 👍🏻

That's the thing about bootlegs, each one (like originals) is different. For example, my bootlegs have spots on both legs and the paint job is quite dark compared to the botlegs shown here. My orgininals have that texture to the skin though that all the bootlegs defo don't have, and the faces have differences. Even my Mikey originals face looks a bit different to the one in this video. It's cool though because everyone has their own individual figure with small differences to make theirs unique to them! Thanks for the vid, love comparison videos!

Update on a previous comment I made I officially now own one of the official Neca figures and the detail on these really have to be seen in person to truly appreciate

They made it with the same mould. When these moulds are over-used, this kind of "bootlegers" buy them or maybe the Neca producer gives them away (because these are released now, when the second wave of neca appered, but based on 2018 released models). They look amazing for a bootleg, I bought them because in my country these weren t available. For display, these are amazing!

@SUBZEROUK , and maybe Neca should n do so.many "exclusives". These kind of figures are around 20$ in us and in EU almost 40. So...it worths to give a doubled price for some plastic? I bought enough neca original figures-at pretty high prices- with defects (minor some of threm, one with broken arm, some with loose articulations) and I d rather stop collecting them.

I just got a fake Leo and i can tell his face is different and another video told me check the packaging. He has plastic wrap over him and he has arm and leg holes in the clear plastic packaging as restraints.

Question: Does a Neca TMNT box always have the GameStop sign on it or not? I got a, according to my eye, a true Neca set but the boxes don't have the Only @GameStop sign on the boxes. Plus what's funny, my Leo has his lower shell line slightly bending. :)

Didn't know that there is a bootleg version. I'm located in Germany and got the bootleg in full package for a very good prize on ebay from the UK. Now they are available here separately at some stores. I'm still very happy with the bootleg ones but I will go for the Shredder and Splinter original next. Thanks for the video!

I have been doing the same with my Anime figure collection. It's fairly big now and if you do your homework and know what you are getting, the bootlegs can be really good at a fraction of cost. Like I have around 60-70 figures atm maybe. Going the original route I wouldn't even have 10. Not to mention how limited many of these are so you can't get the original even if you wanted to.

Agreed. I used to collect LEGO sets. Mostly Harry Potter and the Minifig Series. Spent thousands on them but once logic set in and I realized they're all just pieces of plastic, sold all my official LEGO sets and picked up the knock offs for $1 a piece. Still feel the same satisfaction.

what i heard back in the day, because the used to also bootleg those comic versions from neca (first neca turtle figures that came out years ago) they litterly make them in the same factory as neca did only with different materials (lower grade plastic pellets etc) so basically they use necas original molds

From what I've heard, what happens is that the factories in China, where Neca send the moulds for manufacturing to, just run the machines out of business hours, using their own cheaper materials and cheaper paint, and just mass produce these things like crazy. Probbly why you can still buy the knockoff Mirage Comics TMNT Neca bootlegs, 10 years after they stopped making them!

If you want to produce in China, it's important to find reliable factories. That is not always easy, especially when you're a small company.

I was also able to correct the eyes on the Mikey bootleg by removing the bandana from the eyes and resetting it in the correct position. 👍🏻 No more looking sideways

Your video is so helpful! And these figurines are so detailed. Loved the movie, don't really like the new ones, but the 90's movies are classic, and not just because of nostalgia. The turtles looked more real, as if they came to life from the 80's cartoon! Also, what's the name of that huge statue of Mickey on your left? Is it Neca? 16"?

Welp... Just found out that the one's I was able to get my hands on are bootlegs/knockoffs. Mine have all the spots except the extra articulation on the upper shell. I do gotta agree with everyone one else, they are really NICE knockoffs. Don't think I wanna pay $200 for each real one. Thank you for the informative video.

I have those also - you can "break" open the top of the Shell with a Screwdriver or a Plastic Tool - then they have the exact same articulation. I do think they are not "knockoffs" but rather the ones that did not pass Quality Checks (just my opinion)

i mean i only use the figures to pose them and forget about them, so for me it's a win

Where did you pick up the knockoffs? I realize this video is old, but I've been looking for some extras to pick up for a friend and all the knockoffs I'm finding have some pretty rough paint apps - nothing like what you have here.

question, 2:18 these turtles in the individual box should not come with the Gamestop sticker on the lower right corner? im thinking on buying one on Amazon , but the box does not comes with the "only on Gamestop" sticker so i thought they were bootlegs, but this is the second time i see the originals with no sticker

The first time they were available in the individual boxes was through gamestop but it's possible they stopped putting the stickers after some time or that they made them available at cons where they don't have the stickers. I don't think it's the best way to tell if they are knock off. At 2:02 you can see some Raphael figures with no stickers.

Durable figures weapons do break easily

I just got a bunch of these at Christmas and for may birthday now that they are becoming easier to find in stores and I did the preorder on Tokka and Rahzar. Here in Canada they seem to be exclusive to EB Games but I had to get Shredder from another online seller here in Canada. I was planning on leaving them in the box but last night my 11 yr old son decided to open them when I was not around. Imagine that, opening them and enjoying them out of the package, what a concept. I carefully put them all back for now until I find a spot to display them.

The Chinese bootleg knockoffs were probably made in the same factory that NECA had them produced in China. Same thing happened with the Comic Book NECA turtles. The NECA official Comic Turtles were so expensive that I just got a bootleg set for $12 each whereas the NECA originals were going for $40 per Comic Turtle! Crazy! The Comic Turtle bootlegs looked just like the NECA ones anyway, same paintjob, articulation, and everything so it was a no brainer! Now i'm thinking about doing the same for these Movie figures...

Where can I get the bootleg?

What's a fair price for knock offs and Neca? I am trying to get some of the turtles. Already paid for tokka and rahzar from neca store

They all have it even the bootlegs but you need to cut open the paint cuz the bootlegs didn’g take into account the articulation point so just painted over it glueing it together

I think I'll order the bootleg figures to have out of the box and keep the real ones unopened

It's nuts how close bootlegs are getting. Even with video games these days.

Those bootleg are pretty easy to spot tbh. The paint job is not even close to be as good as the originals, they are missing some textures, the colors are different and they have that "cheap" look to them that you definitely dont get with the originals. And yes ive seen them in hand, so i know how they look By the way, i cant wait for the new figures to come out, i love that line so much!!

There is a gap in the knock offs in the shoulder joint. The neca ones have the should closed.

Was there a bootleg of the NYCC 2016 Foot Pack? The one with comic Shredder and other foot soldiers. I just bought one from eBay and wanted to make sure. It doesn’t come in until next week COVID-willing

I don't care Id be better with the bootlegs because if you think of it the actually have more articulation by one point the shell and torso articulation which still counts and they are cheaper. If they aren't cheaper then I'd choose the original

I bought mikey for 44 off Amazon from a third party. I guess that means I got a bootleg. Also I have to wait two weeks for it to arrive. Yep I got boot legged.

Yea I ended up taking a punt on one company and they look so good that i actually think they are legit. It was through Amazon but the company had an odd comment here and there saying they where fake. So obviously it can make someone abit more cautious.

Biggest tell on the bootlegs imho is the leather belts on each character, the quality there is just way off. Surprised it wasn't mentioned in the video. Would have been nice if the video showed the two figures side by side longer and in focus. Beware if you buy this on eBay, almost exclusively bootlegs listed at full price. Also the bootleg boxes say GameStop Exclusive, which I don't think they were.

The initial release of these were GameStop Exclusives. Not disputing that they bootleg box displays this, just stating that they were in fact GSE. Originally, NECA didn't have the license to do retail, so they had to make them SDCC Exclusives. Then they were allowed to branch out into retail, so they tested the waters with Game Stop. Sometime shortly after, they started releasing them through Walmart.

It almost makes you want to think they were a batch of prototypes, defects or generally non QA passed figures and just sold at a major discount to Chinese distributors

Is it possible to distinguish them by the box ?

I would buy bootleg versions of these figures if they were good quality and in the scale of the original TMNT Playmates figures. As I want to be able to use these movie figures with the original Playments Sewer Lair, Technodrome, and other vehicles and playsets from that line.

You’re right, from your perspective the bootlegs does not look all that bad. But Bootlegs often don’t have the same functionality as the originals.

I kinda knew I had the bootlegg versions, but at $30 a piece and the fact I could not find Donnie or Leo at Walmart to complete my collection, I'm fine with the bootlegg. Thanks for the info!
