Thank you Keith for your contribution to music. I listen to you all the time.

Monk used to dance when he became over saturated. Such an interesting experience. The difference between having the knowledge enough to let your body guide you to (what) to play. Amazing, I just love this man's music and expression. And trusting your sideman, and leading by following - something similar to what Miles did when he enabled his sideman. I can listen to this man speak and/or play for hours. Thank you Keith. I can't wait to see you again in NYC. Much peace and love to you. CM

Mr. Keith Jarrett gives performances that grind, dance and flow with the virtuosity of eternal creative genius. The purity of his art is a gift from Heaven. Keith was a child prodigy. We will not in our lifetime experience another absolutely piano master like Keith. We are so fortunate to have him. He is truly the greatest pianist on earth.

@@brucegelman5582 By that I trust you mean uninformed...not stupid. However, they did pay hard earned money that helps support your artistry and pay your electric bill. So as a member of the human race it behooves us to extend grace and hopefully that will be returned. I'm a fan of Keith and appreciated his good natured response to these questions.

What’s the name of the first song ?

Jarrett to audience...please stop coughing! (actually happened) We got up and left to see Stanley Turrentine and had a great time. This was in the early seventies when keith's ego was out of control...nevertheless cannot deny his talent!

I worked for thirteen years at the Seattle Symphony.Do you realize how awful it is to hear multiple people coughing during a quiet piano passage.I want to throw every god damn one of them out of Benaroya hall.

I hate these coughers too. Throws me out of focus everytime, playing or listening. Should be thrown out

Jarrett’s ego is not the reason he needs you to stop coughing. SILENCE is the reason he needs you to stop coughing. Music on the level of purity and magnitude that he creates comes from a place of silence only. In order for HIM to do his job-which is to channel the infinite music flowing around us, he needs to do so from a place of silence. This isn’t ‘entertainment’-it’s a spiritual experience. People go to a Jarrett concert to have their souls saved, and I know he believes that his music can do that for people. If you carried such a lofty sense of purpose in your own life wouldn’t YOU be irritated too by having that purpose thwarted and diluted by some absent minded person’s inability to allow the music to do it’s job? I know it seems absurd that a person simply coughing is SUCH a travesty in a scenario like this but HEY, if you don’t like the rules of engagement, then don’t go to his concerts. He’s not forcing anyone to go, but he KNOWS what he needs in order to deliver the magic he’s able to create for people through his music.

If an "artist" cannot perform music on a stage without everyone in the audience being on the same "spiritual" level with him he/she better stay at home and grow up! If one is such a spiritual master floating above in a higher musical sphere then a cough woud be just one more event uniting people in the room. BUT, if one person feels he's a musical god and the audience is not allowed to do anything more than breathe then it's all about his ego. What do you mean by "the rules of engagement"? Maybe it said on the tickets: "no coughing allowed during concert"? Or are these the rules of the mighty Priest Of The Jarret Cult...?

PaavoLammikko I actually appreciate your points (not the sarcasm). Thanks for your perspective. I’d imagine that the fact that we’re both HERE means that despite Keith’s ‘unique’ personality (be it because of personal needs or just a big fat ego) we both appreciate and respect the music he makes. I’m happy to leave it at that and don’t really need a debate. Have a good day.

Now what did he say about Mozart not having the right voicings or something? I'm a longtime Jarrett fan, and I'm sad that he's no longer able to play much, but I don't get his Mozart statement.

Dude, you cannot call Jack DeJohnette and Gary Peacock side musicians, especially, after 30 years plus their own resumés.

Asking people to concentrate in this ADD world is a waste of time.Jarrett lovers are special people.Period.We know what he is up to.Passion.And more giving to his audience than any other musician alive.Period.

Bruce Gelman you’ve got it all wrong. Your attitude is exclusive not inclusive. You use your ‘stance’ as a Jarrett fan (someone in a private and small club of people who are able to transcend the limitations of the ADD inflicted masses by ‘concentrating’ enough to actually enjoy this music) to imo arrogantly feed your ego rather than seeing what this music is all about. Jarrett transcends his own ego and ‘disappears’ himSELF when playing music. That’s why it’s so powerful when he plays. I’m glad you enjoy his music, but don’t use it as a flag to wave for your own egoic superiority. This is music to be enjoyed by ALL people without rules or strings attached. ALL people are special.

Once in Riga (or was it in Tallinn? in one of the Baltic republics), when the former USSR was still intact, they performed on a jazz festival, and Keith came out to the stage with a sax, Jack sat on a piano, and Gary - on drums, and they started paying as if nothing was going on... The audience listened attentively and wouldn't notice that something was wrong, as almost nobody knew them behind the Iron Curtain :))). Well that's really funny, and we all love you Keith, but aren't you a snob? really? honestly? ;)

Put away your phone and don’t record. It’s really not that much to ask. It also happens to be the standard at classical and theatrical performances. It’s not Keith , who has over reacted at times, it’s the small number of idiots in the audience.
