    If I use these in the front and leave the rears stock, would there be any balance issues? How would the pedal feel since front lines are braided and rears are rubber? In terms of breaking performance (not feel), how do these compare to stock (non-Brembo)? Are there any compromises for being lightweight/compact compared to stock? What is the size difference of these and stock pads? Thermal capacity? Can we purchase replacement pads at the local Pepboys or Autozone?

  • @FlyinMiataVideo

    @FlyinMiataVideo

    3 жыл бұрын

    The overall balance should not be badly affected, so the electronic brake proportioning will be able to handle it. The pedal feel should be improved over stock, but not as good as with the four wheel kit. The majority of the pedal improvement comes from the stiffer calipers. Single-stop braking performance will be pretty similar. Multi-stop braking performance (heat management) will be improved due to the caliper's ability to shed more heat. The pads are slightly smaller than stock but with the better heat dissipation that's not a problem. It is unlikely that you would be able to buy replacement pads at Pepboys or Autozone. We generally do not recommend sourcing brake pads at places like that regardless of your caliper choice. Get the best pads you can, not the cheapest. Pads are available through anywhere that sells either quality pads such as Porterfield or anywhere that sells Wilwood parts.

    I have a '16 Sport with 16" wheels. I live in New Hampshire and drive the car year round. The stock rear calipers developed a drag that wears out the pads/rotors.Will your kit be an improvement in that regard? In the spring I will be taking the car in to get new stock calipers/rotors, these Willwoods seem to be reasonably priced with the benefit of lower weight and better performance. Do they hold up well in adverse conditions that include winter salt?

  • @FlyinMiataVideo

    @FlyinMiataVideo

    4 жыл бұрын

    What likely happened to your stock brakes is the slider pins seized. In really corrosive environments (and New Hampshire in winter counts!), they need to be lubricated fairly often to prevent this sort of thing. It's been a problem with Miatas since 1990. Our Wilwood rear calipers have opposing pistons, so they don't rely on a slider pin to operate. The hard anodizing should help protect them from your salt. We would recommend regular inspection in the winter, and if you do suffer a stuck piston a set of new seals is about $11.

    @@FlyinMiataVideo Thank-you. I'm thinking that since the shop recommends replacement of stock calipers, rotors, and pads in the spring, going with your kit would be a cost effective upgrade. I would probably do the front brakes at the same time as long as they are compatible with 16" wheels.

  • @FlyinMiataVideo

    The LBBK on those cars should work very well for street use. It's what we ran on our supercharged NC and our street-based turbo ND. Remember that these brakes are as big as Big Brake Kits on the NA/NB chassis already.

    If you say stock ND miata brake performs 100, how much does the stock Brembo, LBBK, BBK, Big Mama Jama relatively?

  • @FlyinMiataVideo

    @FlyinMiataVideo

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hmmm... I'm not sure I can give them a specific rating because I think it all comes down to the car you have them on and how you will be driving it. The BMJ kit is standard on our V8 builds because of the extra power and weight, but a stock, street driven Miata wouldn't get as much benefit, and would probably be happier with the LBBK kit.

    @@haeuk The weight savings and heat dissipation of the LBBK is a nice performance upgrade from stock and, from our experience, should be more than most people need for street use. You should be good with short bursts of spirited driving. If you are using the car for a lot of track days or are building a track focused car, then the BBK is probably more of what you need. We are limited to what Wilwood offers. The front and rear are now both grey so that problem is sorted out. The only way to offer a red/red combo with the Powerlite is to order a very large number of front calipers that cost an extra $50 each, and we have found that the market isn't willing to pay that surcharge so we discontinued the option. For our other brake setups, we can offer a red/red because Wilwood makes the Dynapro in red.
