This is directly based on a traditional rudimental solo titled, "Crazy Army" that was later adapted into a drumset intro played by Steve Gadd in the Chuck Mangione Quartet on a tune titled, "Legend of a One-Eyed Sailor". Gadd's version was used in a Blue Devils' show as the intro (many years ago) to the Mangione tune that BD performed. Murray Gusseck used the motif as the prime structure for a cadence he wrote called "Electric Wheelchair". And yes, the Blue Devils brought it back in 2017. BUT...the roots are from Ed Lemley's "Crazy Army".
