NC700x is a deceivingly good bike

The nc700x doesn't look good on paper. It's heavy, low powered. But yet I find it a blast to ride, and feels much lighter. why is that?

I’ve had the 2012 model for a few years - no issues at all - even after an 8,000 mile ride cross country and back. Great review.

I have one of these and a couple of other bikes. This is my favorite. I love riding it. It’s fast enough to be fun but I don’t do extremely illegal things like I do on sportbikes. Handling is great and the storage is amazing. I would definitely buy again.

Great review!!! The NC is a 'complicated' bike. Most don't understand.

If you get one don't waste time much above 2500/3000, fly through the gears quickly and it's much quicker. It feels slow cos you're still revving when all it's power has gone in that gear.

Comparing this with Vstrom 650 which will you choose if you have the choice of both Infront of you for daily commute squeezing through traffics and some weekend trips?

I had a 2007 Vstrom 650 & sold it to get my 2014 Honda NC700X. The Honda suits me much better. Much more nimble on twisty roads. Can buy sticky tires in 17" but not 19". Honda has much more torque down low & revs much slower on the highway which is relaxing. And if I drop the Honda I can pick it up because the weight is down low. I couldn't pick up my Vstrom. Higher center of gravity.

man I had a v-strom 1000 full with the heeds engine bars, covering the whole engine body. The bike at stand still position was super heavy, and i could pick it up, easily, I dropped it 3 times, and I weight 60kg, so let you imagine how skinny I am. is not a matter of how strong you are, but picking it up the right way, ofc with a much lighter bike you don't need to bother with the way used to pick it up, but honestly the difficulty in picking it up after a drop-down is not really a good reason to give up that bike.

Went from a Honda 919 to Concours 14. Then decided to hang it up till kids are a bit older. Bought a Miata NC as a fun replacement to 2 up riding. Then $5 a gallon gas hit and I wanted something that didn’t get the usual 35-45mpg but also fit my height. I dig it and the best I have got on this 2012 NC700X with my tall ugly Vstream is 67.7mpg. Sure the inline 4 sound and feel is great but I wanted a max mpg option in case the prices go full on lefty stupid. 😂

Would this be a good first motorcycle for a newly licensed rider? I’m 6-feet tall and ~ 225 lbs. Thanks 🙏🏼

Yes, I think so. I own a 2014 model and I think that it would make a great first bike. Especially for someone of your height. I’m 5’8” and a can’t quite flat foot it. Good luck!

I got mine for my 18th birthday in April and yes absolutely. I did my motorcycle license on a Kawasaki Z650 and compared to that, which many would consider a "better" bike, the NC wins clearly. The NC has very good and predictable power, after 5000km on it the power still surprises me sometimes and makes me laugh in my helmet. Its not slow, its not a R1 but it will smoke very most of all Mercedes and BMWs you encounter. To me, who only has ridden a z650 and 125cc bikes before, the nc is to be considered fast. When you hit a bump and only hang on loosely on the grips you will get scared when you crack the throttle open, but you wont fall like id imagine on a R1 for example. So its really perfect for beginners. Also, compared to the Z650s dual brakes i love the NCs brakes. Many say they suck but i think they are just to pussy the really squeeze the leather. It starts weak, which is good, then brakes sharper the more you press them and i cant tell you they are great. With passenger i breaked from 130 to like 30 in like 3-4 seconds and it wasnt even an emergency breaking i just wanted to see how far i can push it. The kawasaki just bites to hard and is really hard to dose id say. Did 180km in one trip, the seat sucks. So does every other motorcycle seat, nothing you can do. Its really comfy, more than z650 at least, from first impression just after time it hurts. Theres not much bad i can say about the NC to be true with my heart. The suspension is a bit hard but i dont really hate it, just notice it occasionally being hard. The frame is okay, but the forks feel like bending when you hit cracks in a turn upwards of 50kph, doesnt happen often but you notice. This is the case for ALL bikes with 40mm forks though so nothing you can do. Also the dash lack feature of average milage on 2012 model, thats a loss. And stupid of honda. Also stupid, the wind shield, its okay until 100kph, 110 you start feeling stress but 130 is annoying because of the wind. There are not really many bikes who have okay wind protection so its not too bad. Just buy an extension for 40 bucks. Also i bought golden handle bars and grips, the handlebars lay lower so the NC looks way better. Next up is golden chain and sprocket and you have an exotic induvidual bike. Not any loser who directly buys MT 07 and has no plan what to do with his life or IQ to form an own opinion of what he wants. The sporty look definitely changed the look of the bike and i can reccomend you. If you have the chance to buy the NC 750 100% go with that, dont even bother with the 700x like me. I paid 3800 for 6000km 2012 or 2013 or 2014, dont remember, nc 700x, dont pay more than that for that condition. I weigh 70kg without jacket and helmet, top speed on 48hp bike is 180kph on dash. Gearing: I like going aggressive, 2nd gear in city which makes 30kph 2000rpm and 50kph in 3rd gear around 3k rpm. One little touch on throttle and you go up 20kph in a seconds, its crazy but you cant over do because of rev limiter. In that riding style i get 4l/100km on the point. You can ask me for follow up questions :)

when you took out the frappe-chino i was sold. If you have the DCT version, it shifts so early on in D-mode that the fuel consumption drops to scooter-level consumption. The only downside is that you go from a boring bike to an even more boring bike.

I always carry around some frap. The bike is boring to ride, but it's strange because i like it. Makes for a good cross country bike for doing the trans america trail. I want to put some knobbies on it.

The NC700 has a small bore and long stroke. Its more like a truck engine than a bike engine. It does make some torque. I think its rated at 50 hp at the crank...if you short shift it, it performs well. If you are looking for 10000 rpm shifts...you bought the wrong bike and shouldn't whine about it.

Put a slip on muffler on it, it ups the "fun factor" considerably. I've got a delkevic ss70 on mine, nice growl almost Ducati ish. And the tank is 3.7 gallons not 3.5. I average 68mpg on mine.
