There is the "letter of the law" and the "spirit of the law" and they should have left Maximum Security up, because no horse was going to beat him. That would have been a totally acceptable decision. Just like they let players "play" more in the playoffs, they always do the same in the Derby. That is, until Saturday.

Brother Derek follow the rules, that's why they are there for. Great call by the stewards!

@@Miguel195211 Actually, the rules say...."If, in the opinion of the stewards, a foul alters the finish of a race, an offending horse may be disqualified by the stewards." There is no doubt that a foul occurred, however, I am not alone in thinking that the foul didn't really alter the finish. They didn't have to dq him according to the rules and stewards get it wrong most of the time if you know horseracing. #1 came right alongside after the incident and then faded to 8th place and #18 was already backing up when it happened. Agree to disagree.

Of course, close-up video now available shows that Maximum Security was struck from behind 5 times before he veered over. It also shows a serious foul by Country House. In addition, chief steward Barbara Borden told an outright lie after the race when she stated that all affected jockeys had been interviewed. Incredibly, Tyler Gaffalione, the jockey for War of Will, has said that the stewards never spoke with him. Can anyone believe that? Anyone? Those who still think that the disqualification was the right call haven't done their homework, and, therefore, are complete shitheads.

I think horse racing is gambling and Lady Luck decided to hand all the luck to people who bet on Country Horse!

Gary west is an absolute hypocrite just because he spends millions of dollars every year on the best yearlings does not mean you are entitled to the Kentucky Derby i for one do not like how the stewards refused to answer questions but the only thing that matters is they got it right i did feel bad for him but the longer this goes on the more damage he will do to the game he has a responsibility to bring his horse back for the Preakness and him saying that Kentucky was greedy is one of the most outrageous hypocritical statements of all time
