Another brilliant video explaining the golf swing in the most simplistic terms . This is a 75 year old from the UK , you were recommended after many years and many lessons . I haven’t hit the ball so far , absolutely fabulous. Thanks again

Some people may need to relax their grip in order to feel the club “float” at the top of the backswing. From there the shot shapes are usually created based off the physical trigger you use to start the downswing.

WIG nails it again. I see people hacking at the ball all day long, and sometimes it's me! The pause is so important. It was one of the first things I was taught in the 1970s. Nobody talks about it but you. My biggest mental block has been turning away from the target (chest). When I do and just let the arm unit flow, pause and fall I get effortless power and considerably more distance whilst keeping the ball on the short grass. There are other good teachers out there but nobody with the wisdom of WIG. Thank you Shawn. I'd love to shake your hand one day. The only thing I can't get used to is the strong grip technique 😂. The other important factor, this swing defies ageing. I'm 57 and its amazing how much power can generated with ease from a relatively short swing. All you need is the turn and courage to stop being ball focused - simple.

Right on Adam! One of the 2 biggest obstacles to the big complete turn is the HUMAN SIDE VISION and the understanding of WEIGHT SHIFT from backswing to downswing. When you understand how to get around that, you get to go places even easier! On our premium channel at WISDOM IN GOLF PREMIUM.COM you want to see “alignment reload”, “blur of club”, “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” for the human vision aspect and then see “weight shift with Savy”, “lead hand release backswing assurances”, “momentum already there before your start your swing” series and “pre-motor cortex series” SLAM DUNKS!!

Shawn, been experiencing a lot of "backswing perfection" thoughts especially on the fairway. I needed this, just be a bit more swing dynamic and flush it forward hahaha.

Exactly Mark! The brain responds nicely to a direction you want to release the ball into; see also “how to match backswing to target shawn clement” and on our premium channel, the videos would be “backswing levitation”, “lead hand release backswing assurances”, “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” and “match backswing to ball direction”

Love everything about how u teach golf Shawn, I’m still hitting my driver 40 yards past where I used to. Also don’t feel knackered after a round of golf ( effortless power) 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Nothing like the feel of nutting it with that effortless whipping action that naturally release you in the direction of the flight and you stand there with a twinkle in your eyes looking in anticipation of how good the shot will turn out with interest curiosity! 👊😀👍

With the pause I added 40yards to my drive. With all my clubs I added more distance. Thanks Shawn for your great teaching. Also love the premium teaching.

I have been following you for many years, but this particular video is solid gold for me! I have played several rounds now since watching this and I have easily gained 20 to 30 yards on all my shots. My swing thoughts are: heave it up, pause, then whip it with ease down the target line. OMG what a revelation!

Sean, the top of your backswing with your left elbow very bent and club wrapped around your neck along the pause at the top are things I would never try to teach anyone. It works for you but those are not good fundamentals for anyone trying to improve their swing. I am 64 and can still hit a 7 iron 190yds with an effortless swing so I have a pretty good idea how to compress the ball.

Used to think like you; but doesn’t my left elbow straighten before impact? Human CNS takes good care of me; and I don’t teach body parts btw so we stay clear of elbow this and hip that…

Hi Shawn, how exactly do we start the downswing. If we think of the hips we might come over the top. Regards

Shawn - I've noticed that you always lift your right heel a little before you swing. What's the reason for that? Love your videos!

  • @golflessons

I am mentally in the follow through with some momentum to carry into the backswing; the heel plants to initiate that momentum into the backswing that will help me GATHER the momentum I need to whip the snot out of it easily back towards the target all day long.

I've been watching your channel for years and I've always wondered about how steep your club looks at the top of the swing. So you are saying that the club doesn't necessarily have to stay on plane on the backswing because it will fall back on plane when it comes down? Obviously it is because I'm watching you do it. But you are not manipulating the club in any way to get it back on plane?? Thanks!

Correct! Our arm anatomy is designed for that! We have a fabulous new series on our premium channel called the “2 pendulum series” which you would enjoy a ton from these questions; see also the “throwing series” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series”

Shawn, On these swings your making are you swinging right of the intermediate target or left ? Your more upright with your swing ? Then a lot of teachings are more horizontal like a Hogan ? I like the swing your making but you seem to be going around to the left and I can't seem to figure out how you are existing left as much as you are ? What can I not be doing that your club is way more left ? Something is clearly different ? Cheers

Hey Chuck! This swing we call the Human Machine Swing; your anatomy is designed to deliver actions for pure self preservation; we slash swords this way, swings axes and hammers and pick axes the way, you name the sport or discipline, I am moving the same way! You cannot change human anatomy overnight, that takes a few millenaries….😝😝😝. What golf instruction has and continues to miss the boat on is that we have 2 very distinct pendulum we swing around; one for structure and one for speed. On our premium channel, you will see titles like “battering ram” and “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” and our very latest series, which we are dropping the second video in that one today, is called the “2 pendulum human machine series” which you will really enjoy. I get this with irons and it works as my 7-iron carries 177. But with my driver I struggle??? I don't know if I somehow subconsciously change my thinking when I grab a driver and go into "hit" mode or what? But I can bomb my irons while my driver distance and accuracy is disproportionate to that of my irons. ( the guy who can carry a 5 iron 210 but can barely hot a driver 240?)😑

  • @ens8280

Same here - the irons are fantastic with Shawn’s battering ram/axe thought through a doorframe. 43* iron with a minimal effort consistently 150-160 yards. But with driver, I was only seeing 240 like you. IME, using a different task for driver seems to be the key. I tried adding loft to my driver with the battering ram task, and got a little extra distance, but tinkering with the task gave way more yardage. I think it has to do with how I deliver the club with the two different tasks. With irons, I deloft the face significantly with the battering ram. We don’t want that with driver though. I’m hovering around the cut the dandelion/send the tip of the tee feel for driver, and that seems to create better strikes for what we want with a driver.
