I liked the natural lighting, but I get what you mean about appearing flat. That flash really makes a difference, and she’s a perfect model to use for these videos. I’m definitely learning a lot from you.
Personally I love the pov style tutorials! It helps show your thought process more than if you were to just have someone filming you, which helps me get more out of the video.
+1 for more GoPro! Your commentary on what you're looking for - the light, the surroundings, the composition, the posing, etc - that's where the gold is Keep it up Manny
My business quadrupled since I learn how to use off camera flash with my outside portraits. Nobody in my area uses off-camera flash except for in the studio. And I know a bunch of the photographers and none of them want to learn how. Yes it’s a pain in the butt learning because every spot is different with your settings. You can use a light meter but I’ve learned over the past two years to set my background first and I have a pretty good idea on what power setting I need for my strobe light. For super sunny days I use the Ad1200 pro and for the rest I use my 2 ad600’s by godox. Learning off camera flash has been so rewarding because you can do so much with it adding colored flash in the background and throw in a fog machine and you got some cool creepy awesome spectacular photos. The opportunities to create stunning images with multiple flashes is endless. I can’t get enough of it.
I've used off camera flash for many years and prefer it to natural light photography. It adds a dimensionality that you don't get with natural light. You did a good job in this video of comparing the two light sources in essentially the same location. For me, if for some reason I want to use natural light I pretty much 100% utilize a reflector because, in a way, like off camera flash, it adds that third dimension that's lacking with strictly using natural light.
Honestly I feel like nowadays anybody can take amazing photos using natural light with a little bit of practice. Using and mastering off camera flash is the one of the best ways to stand out from other photographers since most know very little on how to properly use strobes.

I agree. Natural light is too common as compared to OFC. Most people just hate the idea of having to bring the heavy equipments. But while it is such a PITA, if u wanna be different, and wanna create a more dramatic photo, u gotta do what u gotta do.

The more I get into the camera game, whether doing video or photography, I learn that the more control you have over the lighting situation, the better the image.

Lots of people are too scared or lazy to try flash. It’s not hard.

I taught one of my natural light photographer friends studio lighting. She gets so much work for her studio/strobe work. She doesn't have to compete with the sea of natural light shooters. Strobs can give you so much control, in the studio or even on location. Mixing in strobs with ambient. The catch lights and pop to clothing stands out.

The reason is usually that people are afraid to use flash. Natural light is often more if an excuse. But the truth is that naturla light is often even harder to master as you are completely dependent in the situation. Not only do you need to read light and situation much more, sometimes it may even be nearly impossible to get a good photo when the situation is bad. It’s just that the beginning is easier with natural light, as you don’t need to understand and master all the new concepts and techniques of flash photography. Many never make the jump to attempt it.
❤️I’m really LOVING these POV videos. Thank you 🙏
I love when you work with Elizabeth. She is so vivacious. Full of life, and absolutely gorgeous!
I first started using flash about 3 years ago I think. It's one of the most exciting things about photography nowadays for me. It's just incredible what you can create with light and to have all that control!
having the leaf shutter in the X100V really makes this so much easier, not having to jump in HSS and waste so much power.
I've been following your channel since 2020 and I have purchased your presets and tutorials. I could have gone with other sources but you make this very simple to learn with no BS. Either videographer or GoPro, the content I'm after is how easy to follow along with what you're doing and showing real life examples (eg. Lense comparisons). Keep it up Manny!
Depending on the various locations you chose, I don't think either solution is better than the other. Depends. Nice pics as always!
So I been doing photography as hobby for a few years now and there are moments where I would prefer natural lighting to flash. This video is just a comparison between natural lighting and off camera flash. It is very informative and I've seen you take pictures with natural lighting when you're serious. I hardly use flash outside but I'm definitely interested in doing it more often. Amazing photos as always. Also not sure which perspective I enjoy more. The first person GoPro or having a videographer follow you around but its nice change of pace. Kinda get a better understanding of how your mind works when it comes to composition.
I agree with everything you said in the little intermission! I do really like the photos you got with the off camera flash, super sweet!
my fave model Elizabeth, too gorgeous!!
I agree everyone should try to know both. I will you flash in studio and at night during shoots inside outside. In my opinion (doesn’t hold much weight) I think if flash outdoors is done perfectly you don’t know there was a flash there. When using outdoor flash often times the background is darker that it should be and it’s a giveaway and some of those images look over processed. I personally would lean more toward flat rather than over processed. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer, this is art and everything is an opinion.
The switch to go pro is so cool and def makes things easier for you as well! I like it loads and I enjoyed this video. Great comparison of light.
I can see that most photographers out there seem to prefer natural light more than OFC, but i for one love the outcome of OFC. It is definitely different & makes the subject stand out, and most importantly for me (just like u said in the video), with OFC, u can create whatever style u like with good lighting on the subject, regardless of how harsh or soft the natural is, the flash can overpower the sun.

@@mavfan1 this is such a weird take. If anything it’s harder and takes more time to modify and have to be way more picky. Once you learn how to power flash you can have a formula that always works. I would argue making it easier once learned.

@@julianmares140 only if you don't know what you're doing. It's pretty much ALWAYS going to be better than natural.
I enjoy both types of videos. The POV is great though cus seeing your process from your perspective is dope. Make it easier on yourself and keep pumping out pics. Your work is fire.
Excellent comparison… honestly… this made me want to get my flash photography chops up. In some of the comparisons I found I liked the natural light better like the shot at 3:33…. But honestly… knowing how to utilize flash photography for portraits is invalueable… thanks again manny!
I hope that a lot of your viewers can appreciate this style of contents. I really like watch fpv with the final shots mixed in. It allows for learning between the lines. The formal setup is good to especially for formal lessons. But for me, the fpv style really works for real world scenarios and reviews.
Great photos!!!! Video quality is great, as long you include actual /edited photos I'm happy!
I liked the video. I liked that you talked about the settings, natural light, flash, nd filter, composition, the model interaction and even when the settings were off and the changes you did. It wasn't just gopro pov with music. Good job.
I absolutely love the photos with using the flash! Great result 😍
I do both, I love flash and love natural light. But the flash does make your work stand out if you know how to use it. And that does take practice. Love this video 👍
First off, I really like the immediacy of the POV, so the Go pro stuff works for me. A great tutorial, gotta get that dish. Oh and I really enjoy shoots with Elizabeth, she radiates such a positive energy in her work
These GoPro BTS vids are great. I appreciate when creators spend the extra for another videographer - but for these walk around style stories the GoPro is the right tool for most people! Keep crushing it!
The POV style is absolutely great, and your content is phenom bruh. Don't you ever stop. I've been fiending your content since I found your channel and its right up there with the best of the best for me. Keep it up bro.
I was someone that preferred natural lighting, however I think it was because I never understood OCF photography. These pics look amazing and encourages me to go out there and take some pics! Amazing work
It is working. I like seeing how you work with a model. You are fast paced, and you verbalize what you are doing. Your clips are the right length and the quantity of tech is right. I would like to see your pre-shoot discussions with your models.
Manny you made me start taking photography to the next level. Thank you so much for amazing content you have been uploading. You have inspired me and many others. Keep up the hard work!
Great video, we live in such exciting times where we can watch and learn so much through videos like these that shows us so much. Keep the great work going Mr. Manny Ortiz and thank you!
Good job to Manny Ortiz assistant and the model. Can't complete those wonderful pictures without them.
I enjoyed the off-camera flash video. I'm doing this at college just now and you have given me some cool ideas. Thank you
I love the dramatic feel of ocf. thanks Manny. I love your photos
Thank you for the great video Manney! Off-camera flash definitely has its place. For weddings, I find off-camera flash to be very helpful. While I try to shoot as much natural light as possible, when you don’t have the best lighting scenario, the off-camera flash works great. Plus the pictures turn out looking pretty good since you’re not aiming the flash directly at the subject like when using on camera flash, and I can move my camera to a different spot and keep the flash in the same spot and not have to readjust my flash settings, saving time.
Dope!! Thanks Manny! Both ways were fire! 👍 it’s better to have a vast knowledge of the two. The go pro route works! Please do what’s convenient for you at the time of filming, any which way you are still sharing very useful info to us (which we all appreciate 🙂 )Thanks again Manny

No. Not really. Natural light is absolutely as basic as you can get. So, pretty much EVERYONE who uses flash has used natural light and grew into the advance levels being using flash.
Love the pop you get from off camera flash. And the gopro vantage point is perfect, gonna start using it. Great content as usual, thanks bro!
Wonderful work! I love natural light but OCF has been revolutionary for me. Thanks for putting out such great content!! Always an inspiration!
Off camera flash photography seems to be one of those things that doesn't get talked about a lot unless it's at a studio. I really appreciate your videos being a novice getting a little more serious in photography. I have learned more from you than anyone else on KZread (and I have watched A LOT). Honestly seeing you do older shoots with an a6500 is very inspiring. Thank you!
Damn! I did not expect this. The darker background and more natural skin tone when using flash in broad day light looks so much better! Epic Vid Mr. Ortiz! Keep it up
+1 for the GoPro. I like the POV vantage point. It gives the viewers the ability to see what you see. Love it. Keep doing what you’re doing.
This video was so fun and insightful. I love the way both styles look
Thanks Manny, the comparison was an eye opener for me. I see you and Brandon Cole use these lights inside and outside but I didn't really know why. I'm a beginner with an A7iv with a 85mm 1.4, your pictures are a great inspiration. And if anyone has something bad to say about this video , let it be know that your fans are ready to fight. Keep doing your thing Bro.
Once again you proved that, you don't need crazy ass bokeh to take good pictures ... Loving these kind of POV videos... Keep making them❤❤❤
Heat! I appreciate you taking time for the adjustment break downs. Platinum Content bro
Manny, those photos with the flash looked sooo good! I want to go out and buy one RIGHT NOW!!
Loved this video brother. Since I stumbled upon your photography channel only recently I'm hooked and now am inspired to learn how to use off camera flash. Thank you and keep the vids coming. Love from Western Australia.
Emlékszem, amikor először találkoztam ezekkel a szavakkal: "off-camera flash". A youtube-on találtam a "Manny Ortiz" fotóst, aki off-camera vakut használt. Azt gondoltam, hogy érdekesnek tűnik. Rákattintottam, és miután az egész fotózás világa nyitottabbá vált számomra. Szóval csak azt szeretném mondani, hogy köszönök mindent, Manny. :)
Great video.. the natural photos was great, buy the flash photos was next level... crazy how much of difference
Great stuff once again, sir!! Love how you help me with my portrait photography game and I thank you for that 🙏🏼
Keep Moving Forward Manny ... I Love your Content Thank you for sharing Resources...
I'm down with these go pro type shots! Main thing i like hearing is your thought process as you're setting up the shot
I'm at halfway into the video and loved it already!!!
Wow, this was eye-opening. Great shots!
Many, thanks for the video, is really good to see the process.
I love using both natural light and strobes!! Amazing video my friend
I’m a photographer, I use both natural light and OCF but mainly the OCF will be for more dramatic pictures like Quinceneras.. I do appreciate these videos and the little tips on lighting you give us❤️
Great video!! Thanks 👍🏼 it's awesome to see the difference between natural light and ocf in the exact same spot 👌🏼
always great Manny. Keep on rocking
Great video!! It’s good to see Fujifilm content. I use my X-S10 with a 23mm F 1.4 for practice and experimenting. I have also playing with flash and natural light just to get better feel on how I like to shoot. This was an welcome comparison, I view flash as another tool in your tool bag.
Man you are my inspiration ❤️❤️ thanks for your work … keep going
Great tips as always!
Manny is back with the awesome Outdoor OCF vids! Love the GoPro setup by the way. Easier is better! Quality is great! Keep it up
Keep this way of making your videos, love your work.
Great Job, Manny. Thank you so much!
The content is fire! Keep doing what you doing!
I‘m not a pro and i never shoot portraits but i learned more about using flash in the first 6 minutes than ever before…been following you for some time keep it up!
love the POV style of videos you've been doing Manny, the perspective is awesome. Don't be discouraged either, your natural lighting vs off camera flash videos are a learning tool for us so for those that don't understand that then that's their problem. Keep making them! Also, this question is to both you and any other photographers who've invested in the Westcott lighting ecosystem. I'm still fairly new to flash photography but I love it, I've been in love with the Fj400 for sometime now and almost bought it last month but opted to get a godox v860iii and the xpro trigger instead because I needed another speedlight. A part of me still wants to go Westcott at some point if it makes sense. However the godox ecosystem seems to offer more terms of the variety of flashes. Also I'm still shooting on my canon m50 and the godox system with the xpro trigger allows me all shooting modes where as the Westcott system even though all brands of cameras can work with the trigger, A lot of cameras are only limited to shooting manual mode. Now that's not so much of an issue for me right this moment since i prefer to shoot manual mode anyway because I love moody tones with my lighting. But I'm thinking for the future. I'm a hybrid shooter and am also looking to get my hands on the lumix s5 this year as an upgrade.
You're master Manny! and the x100V is such a joy to use.
Great video and display of both!
This video was really great. It was really useful to be able to see the side by side with and without flash. To be able to see what you can do with and without it so each photographer can decide for themselves what they want the final result to look like. As far as the GoPro POV style, I liked the way this one was shot where you can see what you are doing like this (though it looks like you end up forced to always use the view screen on the camera to make the shots), but I also like the other videos where you have a videographer. I think a mix of both types would work well. Excellent content as always! You, sir, are awesome. Thank you for these videos - they truly help to inspire!
No one is complaining because we probably all watch Fro and he's been doing that for a long time now. We like the first hand pov for learning. Love videos like this one! Thanks Manny!
Great Job Manny! You are really teaching me. I rely on your videos. And the GoPro is fine!
I Love this POV with your GoPro, it‘s real and great 😊 Best wishes from germany
No way have I mastered the craft but the small amount of OCF work I’ve done has me hooked Loving the work as always man 👊 As long as you’re putting out content we’ll watch it 🙏
I love your work and I’ve learned so much from you. Thank you. I like the gopro style. If that can increase your output, go for it!
More X100V videos please. I got one based on your “low key” comment that you use it for family shots in a separate video so I love that you show using it in a shoot like this! Thank you!
Love it. I like seeing what you see. Love your work also! My inspiration for my work!
Keep doing your tutorials it's been a great help for my photography thank you for your hard work
Those pictures with the flash ate awesome.
I have been watching your videos for several years. I don't usually comment but wanted to drop a line to say that I like your POV videos. I am a wedding photographer and have wanted to get into creating some KZread content but never did because bring another videographer to a wedding to focus on me would be awkward and cost prohibitive. Using your gopro on the chest mount seems like it could be a great possibility. Keep the POV coming!
Great work, love this video and nice comparative
Love the X100V
Really love the video and how you used both lights ! Thumbs up and subscribe! Cheers from Brazil !
Great video Manny and love the go pro content and think this works really well for bts 👍 agree about flash and natural light and it’s always about using what you need to obtain the look you’re looking for and that’s not always possible with natural light on its own. Great work 👍👍
Hi bro, you just lit up a wave of inspirations to many of us. I think I like both styles you put out but i enjoyed the gopro pov videos more.
she looks great and the photos are sick!!!
This is just perfect ❤️
Thanks for the clarification and insights at the end! The go pro was fine for me. I would request a few videos on city scapes or classic street photography. Of course they’re not your wheelhouse, I’ll love your channel no matter what.
GOAT! Keep doing what you are doing. 🔥
this was amazing thanks for this post it helps me a lot learning from you again thanks !!
I love when off camera flash is well use as is in this video! is not about what kind of ligth are you using. Is about how you want to tell the story and the mood. Ligth is the most importan tool in Photography and ligthing is the most powerfull skill.
Love your video Manny. Nice one.
it looks so good
Hi Manny, loved the video and especially the end segment. As someone that’s just starting as a photographer, and KZreadr, I think that what your showing people is amazing. Haters are gunna hate, it’s the unfortunate name of the game (but I know you are aware of that). I think to stand out from all the people that are on KZread, doing POV photography, and trying to become a well known name, the personality of the person is what makes them standout or not. You have a very wise, fatherly, at ease, and helpful personality that makes you stand out from others so much. I’m not saying that there aren’t other KZreadrs that share similar qualities, but the levels of your qualities make you stand out from others for sure. I hope you’re doing well Manny, and thank you for being a great educator and inspiration to me and so many others. Keep on doing what your doing. 😊
As a new photographer I really appreciate what ur doing with natural light and off camera flash cause right now I can’t afford a flash but I’m learning how to make things pop with natural light from watching ur videos. Ur videos really have been helping me n I appreciate ever upload man keep doing my what ur doing
I’m totally fine with the go pro. I enjoy your content and the fact your able to share and are sharing your knowledge is awesome. I work mostly on my own and after a shoot I’m like I wish I could have gotten some BTS. So it’s work regardless how you get it. Keep doing you 👍
Good job ... but may i suggest doing a video about on-camera flash ... since most people won't have an assistant holding a flash. I want to see what magic you can produce either on camera or holding the flash yourself.
