Springblade with the length of the boonedox would have been perfect

With my 2021 version Slayer Max 10 I am having serious issue with tracking. I could never pedal straight to where I want to go without constantly turning the rudder control steering handle left to right, right to left, left to right, right to left..... Looks like I shall order this springblade upgrade. I just checked Native's website, and found out it is currently out of stock. Also I am in Canada, so I am wondering if Native would ship this thing up north:-) Cheers

I have three trips now in my new Slayer Max 10 and I feel like this should have come standard. Coming from a Hobie, the tracking and turning on the Slayers are horrible! I'm spending so much time adjusting the rudder while moving spots. If I take my hand off the control for more than 5 seconds you better believe I'll be facing the oposite direction. I can't wait for an on the water review. It's just too bad you have to pay another 180 bucks to get decent steering.

@@BVDsGoneFishing Thanks. Yes this Springblade rudder upgrade kid became available at Native's website around a week ago but only for about 3 days and then became 'out of stock' again. I was quick enough and ordered one. I am still awaiting its delivery (I am in Toronto, Canada area) so the delivery certainly takes longer period of time. Can't wait:-). And for me hope it is worth $190 plus UPS $69 shipping!!!!

Is your Slayer a 2021 or 2022? I hear the 2022 tracks better. I’m in the market for a Hobie Outback or a 2022 Slayer Propel Max 10. Any input would be appreciated. Cheers!

@@TheCollectorZero I recieved it new in May so I would hope it's a 2022. I will say that with the Spring Blade Rudder it handles like my Hobie Revo 13 with a sail rudder. I am very impressed with the Spring Blade but bummed that I cost another $190. Being able to back pedal has been my favorite part of a pedal drive compared to the Mirage drive.

How much pull is required to retract the rudder from the down position? Do you find it a bit binding? Thanks.

This Springblade rudder is indeed, spring loaded! I mean you can adjust tension (amount of force required to retract/pull the rudder from the down position). After I installed this Springblade rudder upgrade to my Slayer 10 MAX, at first I adjusted it a bit lose, so it took no effort to retract the rudder but once I was on the water I couldn't release it to the down position (it/the spring didn't have enough tension or spring-loaded force). Then I re-adjusted/tightened it a bit, and it worked perfectly (it now requires a bit more force to retract t he rudder, but at same time it drops down easily, too). Hope this makes sense, and helps. 🙂

@@MOBBINOutdoors More tension helps pull the blade down. My problem is when pulling it up.

@@OldLadyAngler gotcha! may want to see how it was installed. If the line grommet/sleeve is too low. It will cause friction with the line on the rudder disc. Mine is little tough to pull up as well

I've tried to install this and cannot get the rudder to redeploy after pulling up and locking in the clear. It won't retract at all. Super frustrated and not sure how to resolve it. Tension is fine, the paracord doesn't have anything obstructing it's path. I'm completely out of ideas and have watched your video and Natives countless times.

Try to tighten the spring more

I own a Max 10, but I see no reason why this drop down rudder is a thing. What’s it intended to fix? Drop down for what reason? I fail to see where the benefits are. Hello?

Sorry to hear your having some issues. Please address them to the dealer that sold you your kayak. They should be your main point of contact with support of your boat.

I will thanks. Just out of curiosity does your propel drive have any play in it where the new latches secure it? I had to add some silent traction under the tube to keep it from bouncing around.
