I own the SlayerMax Propel10. I got this style of kayak because I do fish open water as well as weed thick ponds/small lakes. When I go heavy weeded area, I leave the peddle drive at home and the Native doesn't have an exposed hole when you are not using the peddle drive. But that leaves you with paddle use. Not friendly storage, but you can get addon paddle storage like the YakAttack accessories. But if you do need to use the paddle when you have the peddle drive, access to the paddles is extreme to say the least. I fish the river and sometimes I need to lift up the drive and grab the paddle when the river gets shallow, which is NOT a quick procedure (especially if you have a crate or other material in the back) and a real back twister for this old man. I load my kayak in the back of my truck and if I use the paddle storage the paddles get in the way. The clips are weak, and you could easily have a paddle hang up on something behind you and come off without you knowing (again it is behind you). Nothing like seeing half your paddle floating past you while on the river. But I LOVE my kayak. I don't regret at all getting the Native SlayerMax. Get a YakAttack paddle lock system for your paddle storage. I just wish Native would just put an elastic lock for the side instead of my using the YakAttack and having to put the paddle up and on top. But that is really just a minor thing compared to all the great things about this kayak.

Very true. Do you have the indexer on your propel drive? That help getting it out of the water but still a process

@@thebeardedpaddler I have no problem getting the pedal drive out of the water. I guess what you mean by the indexer is that thing you push down to help get the prop lined up to pull out of the hole, and if so, yes I have that. The process is trying to reach back and grab the paddles. You try and negotiate around your crate and poles and anything else back there (I use the Ctug wheels to load and unload the kayak and in some fishing spots it is just easier to set the wheels upside down on the decking where rudder wheel is then it is to walk back to the truck. Fits nicely there) and then reconnecting the paddle. All that while you drift further into lay downs, brush or wherever the river sends you. I did it once, then when I got home ordered the YakAttack dual roller paddle holder. Done with that mess.

How does the slayer 10 max paddle? If it were ever used in without the peddle for a shallow, weedy lake? Is it pretty versatile? I’m assuming you’d need to purchase the drive box scupper plug from there website.

  • @thebeardedpaddler

Not at all. The weight would be the only issue with car topping. The Slayer Propel 10 is a good lightweight option for car topping but doesn't have the same weight capacity as the max obviously

@@thebeardedpaddler taking the seat and peddle drive off, I think I'd be ok car topping. I car top a Feelfree Moken 125 V2 at the moment and the weight of that yak is about the same as the Slayer Max 10 without the drive and seat. I'm looking to upgrade to a peddle drive in the next year.

Slayer is a little beefier than the Bite and I definitely prefer the rudder controls on the Slayer. I'm not a fan of the sliders Jackson uses on Bites rudder controls as they are very noisy. The Bite is better on shallow water because the drive has more kick up capability.

I am curious, I see a lot of Greg Blanchard videos and notice he always has a lot of water on the floor. I know he uses mainly 10ft and of course a ton of gear, but are the slayer 12.5 max bad with that, I’m a bigger guy and don’t see a lot of reviews on that model for big guys in the newer models. I know some water will get in regardless, but is it a lot vs a little?
