🤔 If you use some washers on the screws when you wrap the cord it wouldn’t pull the cord, it’ll just crush them tight. 👍🏼

This was a very beneficial upgrade I did on my old Slayer 10. Steering was so much smoother and had full travel. I had a bear of a time fishing my new cord thru the hull tho. But in the end, well worth it.

@@FFHTV Yes I had to use a small piece of safety wire to pull it through. it was kind of gunky up in there.

I did that and put a spring blade on my ultimate FX 13 propel

@@FFHTV yea you already figured out the spring blade comes with the rudder plate huh. I figured that out AFTER I ordered the one from burly pro

I just made my own slayer 10 handle. It's taller and has stops. The springblade rudder has way too much travel so past about 90° left or right, it becomes ineffective.

What 3d modeling software is that? Also, do you have any ideas on a rear access hatch for the slayer propel 10?

I use a free 2D software that can export as a 3D stl from emachineshop.com

Would this work with nylon covered stainless wires? I recently added 2 makes on thingyverse of your rudder handle base and the pelican handle.

Sadly no as this was designed for use with Spectra Cord or similar. I saw your makes on thingiverse - very nice 👍. Stay tuned as I should hopefully have a video out soon on my version of a rear trolling motor mount for the Slayer 10. 😊👍

Thanks for your video brother. I installed the handle plate this morning and it works fabulously. For this mod, do you find that the screws stick up above where the top of the stock plate sits? Curious if it gets hung up on a crate or similar. Printing this mod now and will put it on in the morning. Cheers.

@@FFHTV Good solution!. So i print this out scaled to 100%, and its scientifically smaller than it should have been. Did i miss a step or is the scale wrong?

@@FFHTV disregard first message. It fits nicely. The nut recesses do not fit 1/4-20 however. Too small. 10-32 nylon nuts were the ticket.

The nut recesses are a "press fit" on the part. If you notice in the video I showed that a standard 1/4-20 nut was to be hammered into position. 1/4-20 nyloc nuts however may be slightly too large when compared to the standard nut when it involves a press fit. I've always designed my nut recesses to work in this way but if you got it to work for you with 10-32 nyloc nuts then that's all that matters. 😊👍 kzread.info/dash/bejne/rGSD0JNrqZS6qsY.html

@@FFHTV Took er out for a test run on Sunday. Despite the wind the steering was great! i was using some leftover kevlar string i had but swapped it out for the cord you recommended. I have confidence that this "mod" will be long term.

What is the advantage of this upgrade?

Two specific reasons for me was that I could now more easily do two things - adjust tension on the rudder steering and align the rudder with the steering handle while at the same time eliminate the growing saltwater corrosion concerns that I had. After time with corrosion growing on the cables where they connect and the set screws wearing out to the point of no return - any future adjustments were going to be virtually impossible to do so it only made sense for me to go this route rather that update the existing parts or hardware. You may have noticed that Native Watercraft has gone to this similar method for their steering setups ever since BerleyPro, I believe, first came up with it as an upgrade to the cable setup.
