Native American (Navajo) Teachings on Fearing Witchcraft

This video made free by our wonderful Warrior Producers.
Learn More: producers.navajotraditionalte...
There is a lot of fear that follows people around. This fear grows and eventually paralyzes. In Navajo teachings many outsiders want to know about witchcraft and the dark things.
For our Navajo people this is a topic that is avoided. There are only certain times or places that such things are generally discussed.
But what it comes down to is fear. This is how witchcraft operates. Fear makes the victims easy to control and harm.
Yes it is very real, probably more real than anyone wants to mention.
In this video Navajo Historian Wally Brown teaches about this topic and shares the key to protecting against such practices.

Ideas! Ideas about. Casting spells(ideas)far and wide. Consider the film, music, media, industry. Imagine now how unacceptable these would all be, in the middle ages as one example. People have the wrong ideas about how they understand. Those ideas were created deliberately to cause uncertainty, ignorance, fear etc. Our modern times are pumped full of witchcraft & spells on overdrive 24/7 with the intention of poisoning and corrupting the mind, heart, spirit, physical, emotional, spiritual in us all. People do not see it this way though. And is it any wonder why!🔥

Good hearted compassionate people, and hatefull self centered people. Sadly evil is everywhere in all nations, religions and traditions. Try dealing with demons. Getting pulled to the underworld every time you fall asleep and having to put up with the nightmares they put you through. Having one of them riding next to you when your driving. Try losing thousands of dollars from your bank account as you're working 70 hours a week to save for something you need to buy. You ever dealt with devils? These are less aggressive but they are more crafty. They have stolen every type of energy from my body, heart, and soul that they possibly could. Finally, after well over ten years of this, they have been trying to kill me. I've had two massive heart attacks that I believe I only survived because of prayer. Now my heart is nothing like it once was. I can't work and the meds I take are terrible. But, you say gossip is the worst kind of witchcraft . .

My Grandmother use to tell us these things. She worked with herbs and took Clue's from nature about planting season, or how hard the winter would be. Watching the animals and knowing what they meant and if they were bringing her signs. I think in today's world it would be considered dabbling in WICA. Her family was from Sapio (sp)NM. I've always known of my Indigenous family and I am very proud of where my family comes from. My other Grandmother was very aware of Black Magic and how to protect you from it's power over you. They called her a White Witch and my father use to talk about one of his aunts that practiced Black Magic and how she would scare the 💩 out of him. It's very interesting to live imbued in it. People just don't understand, because they are afraid and would rather disbelief and look at us like we're crazy. We're not crazy, just educated in other ways of the Universe. I hope people continue to practice the good things and teach the younger people of their tribes these traditions and beliefs. Both of my Grandmother's are gonnne now and I am so glad the taught us things that can be helpful in our journey. So much has been lost because they were afraid to talk about it too much. People didn't understand their ways. I did and I love them both. 🙏💞🕊️

I was doing witchcraft for 6 years. Mainly this witch made me believe that I was never going to find love or that I needed to pay her large amounts of money to keep my life positive and find a woman. Turns out she made me be afraid, every time I could not pay, she would say, "if you don't pay then bad things will happen, you will ne alone" and so forth, she would even convince me that I should drink and do whatever I want and experiment and so forth. She used my addiction to alcohol to confuse me and make me afraid. After I gave my life to Christ, to trust in the creator, I put an end to it, I didn't care about consequences or nothing, so I blocked her and changed my number and everything to keep her away. Now it's been 5 months and I feel more happy, but I lost 6 years of time, believing in her instead of believing in myself and trusting God. I was very naive, I could have gone to school ,buy a house, travel. I lost many years but I am learning again to love freely without any fear. This man says the truth

Same goes with any negative entities/witchcraft- refuse it, it’s not yours, do not accept it- and call in the creator. As someone who practices- I never never never provide any energy or discipline that has any negativity. The only time I give any care for is to help someone who is struggling greatly. I have to see them struggle, and pray, and try their best to gain positive healing. Then I may do a ritual to aid in their prayers and actions, to give them relief, positivity, or some gains to help. And even then the outcome is not of my will. I just see it as an extra intensive prayer to the creator to help them.

the term is used very loosely, and has always been ambiguous because of the nature of the craft. truth is there is all sorts of "witchcraft" or sorcery/magick, some more evil and some more benign. but it always involves trickery of the mind which is another nature of the craft. whether that mind is of yours or somebody else's, the idea is to elicit a change in perception, and playing with the concept of what "truth" is. whether that is inherently good or bad depends on your beliefs about the type of witchcraft being performed.

The first tenant of witchcraft is harm none. The 2nd is knowing it operates on the rule of 3 - what you put out into the world comes back to you x3. So the truest practices of the craft is based in love not disseminating fear or controlling by fear. That is a very different thing no witch, worthy of her craft, would engage in. You can call it prayer, or reflection, or meditation, or “sitting with yourself” - not exactly the same but at its core they are all meant to give yourself time to process, to reflect, to decompress so that you can think clearly, think for yourself, and gain objective understanding to protect yourself from those who will try to manipulate you.

Thank you for this advice. I am not a Navajo person. My blood and skin colour is from European descendents. But I am here as a human being. Nothing more. This protection of my body, mind, heart, and spirit I need as well. I had spiritual attacks from day one in my life. Unfortunately my mother who teached me language teached me how to behave, teached me about the universe and the religious beliefs and did all the nutrition for my body and spiritual teaching. She was a narcissist. Sent into my life to prevent me from becoming my greatest version of myself. I ask for protection and security. For good thoughts. For protection for a pure heart. This teaching gave me confirmation. That the protection is to go within yourself. To connect with prayers. ❤

This is very true! I grew up in Egypt where people very much believe in the black arts. They are terrified of it, and some evil minded people use it to try to harm others. Now, a lot of terrible tragedies have happened to me throughout my life, and since there are some people who indeed hate me and who I know have used black magic against me, I of course thought this is why bad things keep happening. I tried for many years to find a solution, but practitioners of New Age stuff only came up with things like tarot cards, crystals and whatnot. One woman claimed to be a Shaman and to use Native American Shamanism to "break bad karma bonds" - I hate to admit I had it done, desperate as I was. Of course nothing changed. In the midst of all this, I always knew that all this New Age stuff wasn't the solution. I have always prayed, for protection, for help, and to thank the Creator. I have always felt that this is the only right thing to do. A lot of things have happened that I don't know why they happened, or rather more why they were allowed to happen. I do wonder why, given that I have always prayed for protection - and no, the worst of these things have not made me stronger. I keep asking the Creator why these things were allowed to happen. Maybe one day I will find an answer. I'm mainly concerned with why the brutal murder of my beloved cat was allowed to happen - I'm not so much concerned with all the things that got done to me. But black magic has nothing to do with it. These people have tried to terrify me with their practise of the black arts, their threats and their actions. For one purpose only - as you rightly say, to frighten me and thereby gain control over me. Yup - half the world has tried to control me! They were/are afraid of my strength, that's why. These creatures don't bother with weak people - they want to control those who have inner strength. None of them have succeeded! They murdered my cat to break me - they haven't succeeded, and the love between my kitty and me will always exist. While I still do traditional things for protection, I know they are only symbols. Prayers alone are all powerful!

I know this is a little off topic but I have a question. I'm a widower with a 15 year old autistic son in the four corners, Flagstaff area. He's 1/4 Cherokee, I know that is not the same. His mother and his great mother have recently passed. His grandmother denies her heritage because of issues with the mother that abandoned her and isn't very involved in his life, not the grandmother that I referenced (second and best wife). How do the first nations people include the special needs kids? I'm 3rd generation Norwegian and I don't want to deny him his heritage but I'm not sure how to integrate this into his life. I believe that these teachings could bring value into his life. I've quietly watched your channel for some time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are many indigenous resources online; some are tribe specific. There may be some information in the ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ resources of the Passamaquoddy and MicMac people. Blessings to you and your child.

People hear folks talking about witchcraft, and they assume they're credulous and superstitious. Thank you for speaking frankly, we need reminders that fear mongering is the origin of the problem, not superstition.

Thank you so much for sharing this. My elderly mother was born in a rural area within the west of Ireland. Much of her life has been dictated (subconsciously) by old folklore & superstition. This has affected her emotionally in so many ways. Although my brother & I respected her judgement & opinions on matters, we declined being pulled into such beliefs. Our lives are determined by our own actions - we are in control of who we are & therefore responsible for what happens within our families. The 'who you are' is what matters & how you leave your mark when it's time to go. Thanks again, really enjoyed your channel. Kind regards & warm greetings from across the pond 🇬🇧

I've always run away from my fears until I learnt to pray for protection and truly trust in Allah. Now I sit with my fears until I conquer them and it no longer has any influence over me because I know my Lord will protect me through these trials.

Thank you for this clarification. Ironically, many who call themselves witches absolutely do not fit this description. Rather, they are free souls who revere the rhythms of nature. On the other hand I have known many more of the people you describe posing as Christian saints, Eastern gurus and Native people. You are so wise to warn our youth about this. Evil is real.

I am a witch and I live by the rule of do no harm and live for the greatest good of all and The world will pay back what we sew by 3 or 7 fold. You're talking of witchcraft thru the lens of centruies of yt male bigotry. We use protection spells and draw our power from the Goddess and the earth, try to live in harmony with everyone. There are negative actors in all religions. I've always felt that a true loving white witch has a lot of beliefs that run congruent to the Dine and Indigenous teachings. I Love your content and contribution to the world and the human race. I love the explanation of fear and how it us used to control. You're a blessing and your wisdom is so pure. I just feel this one is a little biased towards the yt mans biased beliefs about "witches" i.e. yt man code for strong independent woman, midwife, healer woman, woman we cannot control, the woman with the knowledge of things yt men did not know or like. I'm just offering a different perspective. They (yt man) burned Us (witches/woman) at the stake before they came and unalived Your Nations. We both have the yt man as our aggressor. Please do not do their dirty work unknowingly. Witchcraft has many forms and some are very in harmony with the earth and our surroundings. Blessed Be❤

There’s a difference between living in a fear based state and knowing about truly malignant forces which do in fact exist. There are plenty of false shamans out there who don’t truly know about the forces they may be messing with and it can have deleterious effects on unwitting people.
