Sometimes Nureyev makes me think of a torero in the arena. The greatest dancer I have known.

Nureyev is brilliant both as a dancer and choreographer. What a luck that such a talented person escaped his prisonlike country, come to west and could enrich, evolve and inspire western ballet.

Nureyev had not choreographed this ballet, he just adopted it from Marius Petipas' original choreography, thanks to Russian Ballet school that had teach him that and he could share it with the world.

Ballet seeks unobtainable perfection except with Rudolph who IS perfect in every way. No one can even walk like Rudolph in this solo he created. Many have tried, but cannot replicate his intricate effortless appearing , gravity defying balance,grace, movement , lightness, & charisma that’s captured thru camara; all eyes naturally follow him bc he’s impossibly extraordinary. Decades of daily practice & work ethic helped to create illusion of effortless- 0 is effortless re ballet.

As I wrote in other comment, Rudy is the best prince Desire of ballet history. This rendition of Sleeping Beauty is faboulous, one of the best I have ever seen in my life long. Thank you Judith

I saw him dance sleeping beauty and spoke with Rudolph when I was still in Hartford. He inspired me to continue ballet classes. Spoke with him in Italy too. I admired Karin Kain and Frank Augustyn' bluebird as the best I've seen.

tchaikovsky my favorite composer as well, always been since i was a child little and i would get emotional listening to his beautiful wonderful music, he was not liked a whole lot bc the man was homosexual and imagine back then in russia how must have been for him, most was hidden but... thank you mr tchaikovsky you are the greatest composer ever lived in my opinion my humblest of opinions

What a treat. Nureyev (34 at height of his powers) and Tennant (such an expressive dramatic dancer) AND Kain AND Augustyn... with the NBC orchestra of the early 70s led by the incomparable George Crum. Would love to get my mitts on the full list of the orchestra personnel for that year. If anyone has it, please post here!

Nureyev fue un bailarin diferente a toros, abrio un camino distinto al bailarin masculino. Verlo es extasiarse siempre. Ha sido el mejor y mas expresivo en cada sentimiento al bailar cada una de sus composiciones.

Who impresses me the most in this production is Frank Augustyn. I did not realise how good he was, so light and fast. Karen was pretty good also but I enjoy watching Frank more.

I have a Giselle with Kain and Augustyn .. Which I will post on another channel .. If you add me to your circles I will send it to you on Google+ .. I think the YT police will be after me if I leave it up to long. This Giselle is one of the best in my opinion. Augustyn is a marvel!

The ballet world will always be indebted to Nureyev for his long lasting contributions, but ballet technique has improved greatly since this recording. There are moments of brilliance in Nureyev's dancing here, but he's past his prime and I can think of many dancers today who can dance this role far better, dramatically and technically.

yes ok ...but took yrs b4 any male technically so good ..also its his command of the stage ..such an invigorating athletic perfectionist passionate energised spot on musically performance ...haha guess youll realize I think very highly of him as a dancer ...and hes the reason inspiration for other great male dancers

so far, the best PDD with the fish dive/lift has been done by Sergei Polunin and Lauren Cuthbertson. i think we remember Nureyev as being better than he was. Polunin outshines him in every way.
