Wish I never fell into numbers
Wish that I could dissipate my rage
Wish I could unearth my thunder
Artificial taste it holds my name
Thought that I had always been numb
But now I can’t ignore the bends and cracks
Wish that I could turn the noise off
Disassociate and not come back
Why do I come back?
Wish I weren’t obsessed with purpose
Stay content with anything that’s mine
Wish I weren’t results of regrets
It’s nauseating when I say I’m fine
So sick of waiting for an answer
Staring at the sky in hopes it falls
The sum of all my charts and failures
I wish I couldn’t feel a thing at all
Wish I never fell into numbers
Wish that I could dissipate my rage
Wish I could unearth my thunder
Artificial taste it holds my name
Thought that I had always been numb
But now I can’t ignore the bends and cracks
Wish that I could turn the noise off
Disassociate and not come back

Fun Fact: Nate revealed in one of his livestreams that the very first noise you hear in the song, the small rising sound before the piano comes in, is Nate saying/yelling "Fuck" and it is so heavily processed that you can't hear it anymore.

This is my favorite song on the album. There's so much to it musical with the resolution/modulation. The lyrics are a message that rings true with so many artists. The emotions across the whole piece but especially during the second chorus just reflect so much from within

@@alejandroprime3764 Well the song title is a actually known as "social envy" which resents against people of higher social class. Take popular youtubers for example. They have higher social class, while those who used to have that fame or wanting to climb to that fame struggle with numbers. Though, do take what i said with a grain of salt. I'm not a lyrical genius, i'm just some nerd who aspired to be a musician thanks to Nathan and anyone else from the Nerdcore community.

the fact this song is kind of a redux of What You Want is INSAAAAANE to me. It sounds so good, it really continues Nate's kind of overarching theme of self mythologizing and self reference in his material that I think a lot of artist want to do, but can't pull of quite this effectively. Nate is an amazing songwriter, an amazing vocalist, has an amazing mind for concepts, and this whole album just further proof of that. You'll always be one of my biggest inspirations, and in a world of white noise, one of my favorite sounds. Incredible work.

I need nate to see this so he can learn how incredible he is 😭. I think no one can understand how much i love nate. He litteraly saved my life, it's weird to say that a person that never seen you or even knew you existed saved you, but it's true and it's deeper that what i just explain in this massage. I had a lot of problem back then, if it wasn't to listen to his songs, i wouldn't wake up. I've lost the count but i think it's been 7 years i listen to his amazing songs, Honestly if i don't hear 1 of them the morning, my sadness and even sometimes my need to die stay in my mind . Idk how to explain how i feel when i hear his songs, i just feel safe and happy. This is not a joke, nate, thank you for saving my life. It's hard for me to say in details what i went trough but i hope some of you will understand what i meant and maybe even relate. Never mind, i'll always support him and i'll never leave the place i made myself with all the other fans that will stay till the end. Sry bad english xd

Don't apologize, you're understood just fine. I'm in a much brighter place now than I was, but Nate in many ways saved my life as well. Helped me through the time I was suicidal. I can't tell you how much of my own emotion and struggle I've projected into his songs, ultimately in ways that pushed me forward to let go of what I needed to, and move on to something better. But the memories never leave. But that's not bad for me to be honest, I've made a sort of peace with my scars. They give me direction, because it was during that time I came to know for certain just who it is I am. Anyways, needless to say Nate is one of my favorite artists ever, and I have nothing but love and respect for him! I hope he sees both of our messages!

@@levisnk You're very welcome. I know for me, when coming out of that dark place, I actually had to shift what kind of music I listened to a little bit. There were the songs about not being alone in the darkness and the pain, and then the songs about overcoming it, and eventually even songs about accepting that it happened. Also, of course, there's the actual things that you struggle with themselves, and things like therapy, but aside from suggesting trying therapy if you haven't (which I would be surprised to hear) I can't really comment on those. Anyways, things rarely disappear on their own, but if you can distract yourself from those feelings and practice more positive thinking, those thought paths eventually start to fade. I have every confidence that you can do it! ^.^

Wow, I don't even know what to say, this is an incredible "Halloween" song with its disturbing imagery and dark themes while also being in general a really incredible, moving song that I can sadly somewhat relate to. I also "wish I weren't obsessed with purpose". That I could "stay content with anything that's mine". Cause I'm also looking for my purpose in life and it feels like no matter what it'll never be enough, I'll never be satisfied. Even if I were to reach my goals what then? What comes next? Stagnation? That thought scares me. I also feel sometimes like "the results of regrets" specifically my own regrets, and yeah, sometimes it is "nauseating to say I'm fine." Idk if this is actually the case or not, but some of the lyrics kind of sound like they might be talking about your music career and youtube fame. Specifically "wish I never fell into numbers", "artificial taste it holds my name", and "the sum of all my charts and failures". I just want you to know though that it's alright, us loyal fans will be with you no matter what, so even though I know it's easier said than done, try not to worry too much about the number of views or numbers in general. Try not to worry about "charts and failures", just be true to yourself. There's a quote by Osho, "Let it all go, see what stays." I think that's really powerful and true, we shouldn't force ourselves to be something we're not. Friendship is a two-way street, we shouldn't always be the ones chasing after friends or loved ones, they should sometimes chase you. So um, yeah, sorry if this is kinda long, and I apologize if I'm mistaken about the lyrics or if this is awkward at all. But please don't force yourself to leap through hoops for the sake of fans. Try not to worry too much about numbers, just do what makes you happy, what you wanna do.

Damn... I really wish I checked this out when I first got the notification a few days ago, I happened to be busy at the time and forgot. HOLY SHIT. THIS GOES SO HARD. And it surprised me, I wasn't sure if it was going to turn into heavy rock at the end or not, but it did and I got blown away. That made the themes and emotions of this song hit so hard, executed so well... I love this song, I know I'll be coming back to this one for sure. It sounds different from your usual stuff but still like you, and just... wow. I'm gonna repeat myself if I keep going on. Great stuff, Nate. Hella relatable too. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
