Can we take a minute to recognize the King of the Segue: Brian "Breakfast" Bates. He is so good at turning the topic when things seem to start getting too heated and/or losing steam. That Physics to March Madness switch was golden!

Huge Dusty fan here and love what he brings to the Nateland squad. I am a medical provider and always get a good laugh whenever he starts riffing on anything relating to health or wellness, but what he said last week about sunscreen after Burns Badly’s sunburn story had me especially in tears. Depending on their components, sunscreens are designed to either reflect harmful UV rays from the sun away from the skin or to absorb the UV rays themselves before they can penetrate the skin and cause damage. It is highly unlikely that any listeners are here for Dusty’s medical advice, but wanted to clear the air before anybody throws out their sunscreen. Thankful for all of you guys! I am a listener for life.

That’s true but it’s also true that sunscreen doesn’t block all of the rays. It blocks a large portion of UVB and only some UVA. The UVA is the part that goes deeper and does longer term damage so when you block the UVB and then stay in the sun way longer than usual you don’t get that pink first feeling warning that he was talking about that warns you that you’ve had enough UVA. Also, there are so many studies about different times of day being better for you based on the balance of A/B rays. I’m certainly not saying we should never wear sunscreen but there are lots of interesting studies on the topic and I believe this is what he is referencing. 😊

“Hello Folks!” from Fargo! I am HUGELY thankful to each of you for this podcast. I was widowed in January of 2020 and this podcast has been a big source of laughter and comfort in the years since - especially during the loneliest time, which was at the start of the pandemic where we had to be isolated. I’m so grateful to all of you! A few weeks ago you talked about earliest memories and I wanted to share mine from when I was only 9 months old. For many years I’d always had a memory of Mom handing me over to Grandma inside my grandparents’ farmhouse porch and that Grandpa was crying. I always wondered what it was about and if the memory was even real. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I learned it really happened. It turns out that on the afternoon that JFK died (Nov. 22, 1963) my parents had an appointment in a larger town and my grandparents had agreed to babysit me. My parents drove me out to their farm and Mom handed me over to Grandma inside the porch. That’s when Grandpa broke the news to them that the president was dead. I asked my folks if Grandpa was crying and they said he was, which I believe is why the memory stuck with me. I don’t remember anything else from that day; just that particular moment - but I remember it as though it was yesterday. Keep up the great work everybody! It's much appreciated!!

We went down to Texas recently and I told her we had to stop at Buc-ee’s and she asked “what is it?” And I said “It’s Buc-ee’s!” And she asked again, “yeah, but…what is it” to which I finally realized there’s no other way to explain it other than it’s an experience.

😊 Agree... The triangular point at the end of the tie gets lost if it hangs over or on the belt. When the point is above, (but not too far above), it shows nicely. (What's the point of having a point if it isn't visible! 😅). Course there are ties that are "pointless" 😂.... with a straight across end, but those are not very classy.

Love hearing that Nate likes taking pictures with people. Fun story of how Covid ruined me meeting Nate - My wife and I were going to his show in early 2020 in Madison WI. We got there early and went out to dinner only to see Nate eating with someone one table away. My mind immediately went to, "I need to get a picture, but also we need to do something funny like send over a glass of milk with ice". Before I could do anything, my mom calls me to rant about how bad Covid is even though it had just started making headlines. My wife and I had a trip to Europe planned, and I had to assure her that our flight wasn't cancelled yet so we were still going. As I hang up, I look over to find Nate is gone already. So I didn't get to say hi or take a picture, and two weeks later the airlines cancelled our trip to Europe. Love you guys and the podcast, keep up the great work!

FYI...The "cal" part of "Ocala" is pronounced the same as "California", and it is the horse capital of the world, and it's about an hour from Palatka, where Bryan performed recently. Also, John Travolta lives in Ocala, it has a big neighborhood where you can just fly your own plane in and out of.

Dusty, growing up as a fellow poor person we employed the same strategy for Six Flags. Our whole family would save all of our change throughout the year, putting it all in one large glass jar. And every year we would go cash it in and between that and the coke cans and other discounts we would be able to afford tickets to six flags. And you better believe we went out to the parking lot and ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches we brought. And it was a long walk because you know we weren't paying for premium parking.

I relate to the discussion of a joke not taking as much time as expected, but in a teaching situation instead. I teach kindergarten and sometimes the lessons go way shorter than planned so we play a game or something. So what do you do in a situation in a comedy show where you notice your timing is short? Is that where you might work in crowd jokes or do you bring in old jokes? Do you ever start doing improv? Maybe that's when you could ask the crowd to shout out suggestions of what they want. Like maybe, "The plant joke!"

Long time listener, first time commenter. Everything you guys said about Florida is true. I am born and raised in Jacksonville and it is so true that the north part of the state is more south than the south part of the state. Also, would love to get to see the whole crew if you ever came to Jacksonville, so far I have only seen Nate perform live.

Hello Folks, Today a client called in because her online banking account was suspended. Turns out…she’s deceased, at least in our systems she is. Our client was apparently as surprised by this as I was, and even more surprised that a daughter she had never heard of notified us of her passing. 🤣 I must say, she seemed to be in unbelievably good health..not at all like you’d expect from someone that died last year. Thankfully, we had good laugh about it, figured out the issue, and I was able to get her resurrected in her online account. This reminded me of the “dead” horse story! 😂 Tell Brisket and the boys hi! I can’t say enough about how much I enjoy your shows, Wednesdays are my favorite day! Sincerely, Annabelle

I want Brian and Aaron to get some acting gigs so they can get recognized like Nate and Dusty. I've a feeling all four guys would make fantastic actors, especially if they had to play serious roles.

When Nate taped his last special here in Phoenix and opened with the Scheel’s joke, they were in process of building the first one in AZ. It’s now open, so maybe Dusty should tag along for this next special taping and check it out! Can’t wait to see Nate again in a couple weeks!

Yea I’ve tried introducing people, too. It’s a bit of a slow burn. It’s hard to immediately get on board - I was such a big fan of Nate that I wanted to bear with it. Now I feel like I NEED it! Ha! Great cast - they’re all very necessary for the success of this show.

I think it would be fun to see a map of all the states that have been talked about on the pod. You could fill in a new state after each state-episode. I’m a visual learner 😂

Thank you Dusty for calling out the word ‘irregardless’. It’s ridiculous, it sounds like something Aaron would say and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s said it on Nateland.

Hey gentlemen I love the tie length discussion, I get a little OCD about tie length as it was beat into me by A gunnery Sgt USMC the regs state: The bottom of the tie must fall somewhere between 1/2” above or 1/2” below the belt buckle you then fold the bottom of the tie to the top of the knot and the midpoint where the tie bends is where your tie clasp goes. There is also your “gig line” which refers to the line that extends from the military uniform shirt, to the edge of the belt buckle to the flap of the pant zipper. Drives my girlfriend crazy when I meet people at formal functions and I comment on how could any self respecting person go out to a formal event with their gig line so off don’t these people have mirrors?! Keep up the great work, you gent’s understand how live funny

This episode is number one! Aaron mentioning Ocala (oh-cal-uh), where I was born was so cool. I got to see Nate perform in Miami and Dusty in Gainesville (I wonder if he still has my hat). Y’all are right, Florida is made up of many different and unique people, but that’s what makes this state great! Much like this podcast. That’s Bates for choosing us this week.

Who wouldn’t want to read a book by Breakfast? I’d love his memoirs, or even just his diary. Imagine… giving back a stolen base, wearing a NKOTB tee on the first day of senior year, accidentally stalking a woman in a parking lot, awkwardly offering to take unwanted fan pics… just some of the many stories that would take the reader on an emotional roller coaster. Breadbox’s tales would have you saying “bless your heart” one moment, and have you feeling like you’re watching Scott’s Totts the next. An instant best seller!
