What happened? “I ran out of talent.” It’s hard not to respect someone trying something new and saying that about himself after a screw up. Extra respect for someone that’s so talented in so many other ways to display such humility.

Michael W amen and good comment!!!! Look at Danica,..how often does she blame everyone else, Joe many freakin times has she wrecked out and literally drove back out days of thunder style and takes out another car like a poor sport?? Travis gets up and appilogises to his team for wrecking the car from a blowout and then on international tv says I ran out of talent???? Respect! 👍

No, there are only a select number of seats in NASCAR. Unfortunately, some of the best wheelmen never get a chance because they don’t have name recognition. Pastrana had no talent but he had some name recognition. That’s the name of the game now in NASCAR. Doesn’t matter how little talent you have as long as you’re connected to someone who can supply sponsorships.

Sean Hart exactly!!!! How many times did Danica get wrecked and then haul out and take out the guy that wrecked her ,..even after the race is done?? Then go blame on tv everyone but herself. Travis ONLY ever blamed himself when a lot of those weren't his fault. Respect that. He's a really good dude. I was lucky to work with him on a project of his and the guy NEVER cusses,.. always smiles and donates $millions to returning troops with PTSD and war wounds. libra8a it's not ego,..he jsut wanted to try it because he loves motorsports, he put a shiz ton of his own money to get into it and clearly if you watch , most the accidents weren't his fault, blow outs and a lot of being in the wrong place at the wrong time when others wreck as well as some poor sportsmanship from the other drivers who clearly didn't want pastrana in NASCAR, worried he'd take their glory so a lot of wrecking him going on. He's a good dude , never cusses , donates a shit ton of money to wounded soldiers and PTSD soldiers. I was able to work with him designing a building for him and a few other guys in Utah for when they are here and he's genuinely a really good guy. Saying he's got an ego is just rediculous. He's one of motorsports greatest legends but it's not given him an ounce of ego. If you'd ever met him you'd retract that but there's a lot of haters out there because of all he's accomplished. NASCARs a joke anyway , I think world champion in WRC and rallycross says so much more about his ability that driving in circles. Not to mention his Motorcross and x-games career. He's a pioneer and I'm glad he didn't make it in NASCAR,..he's too talented to be running circles. I'm not saying it doesn't take skill, obviously it does but not a skill that I particularly respect. Not really, 2013 was the last year of the super heavy level of Buschwacking. It was so bad that year that the Nationwide (now Xfinity) champion won the title with no victories because Cup guys snatched them all up, but points weren't being awarded to the cup drivers. Had Bushwhacking points been included I doubt he would have even been 25th in final standings.

He admitted that it would take him a long, long time to learn about the cars and get to be competitive on ovals so if he was gonna try it he would only race on road courses (he called them street tracks but aah well). A lot of f1 fans are (or at least have been) pretty stuck up about NASCAR so it made me smile seeing Hamilton give a huge amount of respect to the NASCAR drivers and engineers. The Iceberg I think he would have been but needed more time. Noones going to come into the sport and be a legend first season. Top drivers been driving for decades ; just needed more time. To be World Rally championship WRC World Champion when he's a motocross legend says plenty , then rallycross and Baja, trophy truck etc, he's a legend for sure. I respect him for walking from NASCAR and not wrecking more cars from blown tires or wrong place wrong time accidents. Rewatch this, most of these are blowouts or getting caught up in accidents ahead of him or even some shady drivers wrecking him out. I counted 3 of those alone. NASCAR drivers didn't like that he bought his way into the sport but hell, he used his own money and a lot of it to get started so why not? If you're a multi multi millionaire and a Motorsport legend and want to try a sport ,..why not? A lot of bad wrap from people and not sure why. He's a really good dude and doesn't deserve it. He never blamed others or cried about it like Danica ,..so why trash him because he left after a year. It's respectable.

I watched an interview that wasn’t mentioned in this video that said he stopped racing because he’d have to devote all his time to getting better, which he didn’t wanna do. In other motorsports like supercross or rally, if you need to find some speed you just use your balls. NASCAR doesn’t work like that. Driving on gravel fast does require talent, but it also requires a very different kind of driving style from oval racing. Problem is many people outside of Nascar don't have a clue how hard it is. Most think it's easy and 90% of the tracks it's just turning left. There's no respect for the skill it takes to do it from those same people also. Guys that did well in IndyCar didn't have much success in nascar either. Just because you drive other types of car fast with success doesn't mean it will transfer over to Nascar. Nascar is much harder because of the weight, tire size, etc over something like IndyCar. Last the guys that finish mostly at the back every week are really good drivers. The experience and skill required just to stay running in Nascar most will just never understand.

I believe Travis Pastrana's skills are better suited to dirt track racing rather than on asphalt. Take your pick, sprint cars, late models, flat track bikes. It doesn't matter. The guy likes his vehicles loose and on right on the edge of disaster. That's where both him and speed lives.

SMH Both Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart came through sprints and midgets where lose is fast and that's probably what prepped them the most for NASCAR. If Travis would spend a couple of seasons in midgets and sprints he'd probably find enough of what he's lacking to succeed in NASCAR too. There's sill time but at his age he'd better hurry.

He probably means Danica is compared to Dale Jr in terms of marketability. Jr was the son of a racing legend. He was at one time the highest paid driver in NASCAR. And being the most popular driver in NASCAR brought along sponsors, endorsements, etc. Danica Patrick wasn't a success by any stretch, but to date she's the most successful female driver in NASCAR. Most top-10s by a female driver. 1 of only 14 drivers to lead a lap in both the Daytona 500 and Indy 500. First woman to win the pole for the Daytona 500. Most Cup Series starts by a woman. That's all aside from her IndyCar accomplishments, where she was the most successful female driver in its history. Now when the most successful female open wheel driver in America transitions to NASCAR, that generates alot of press. And like Dale Jr, alot of sponsorship dollars, endorsements and the like.

I was able to work with him and he's truly one of the great and a seriously great dude, donates a crap ton of money to charities for our troops returning home with injuries and PTSD ,..$millions donated . He's a good guy that doesn't even cuss lol. Deserves some respect in my opinion. So don't let a year in NASCAR break ur heart lol but I felt the same. He's mastered many many motorsports , hell of a lot more than any other Motorsports driver. That's good enough. Plus look at this video,..how many were actually his fault???? Great video BFM, Pastrana was the GOAT in the X-Games... but in NASCAR, he is a bust. Suggestion: Championship Seasons: Jimmie Johnson 2006,07,08,09,10

X games, motorcross, rallycross, WRC, Baja , trophy truck, even monster series , dudes mastered it all,..jsut not enough time in NASCAR. Other NASCAR legends been driving decades IN NASCAR, he wasn't going to be a legend first year, tho he's done that in many other motorsports lol

Lets not forget, he created the Pastrana 199 Monster Jam truck, which later became Nitro Circus. The guy who drove those trucks, Cam McQueen, went on to win the freestyle championship in 2012

Let it sink in that someone as talented and awesome Travis is he couldn't make it in Nascar which goes to show how difficult it really is.

Honestly Travis and Danica have a lot of similarities in their actions. They both came from other motorsports where they were rather successful and just couldn't handle nascar, plus if you look at the wrecks themselves they are similar. The differences come when you listen to what they say. Travis admitting that he ran out of talent and apologizing for wrecking sets him worlds ahead of Danica who just blames everyone but herself and bitches endlessly about anything that dosen't go her way.

Young me was a huge X Games fan, so I always rooted for Travis when I watched the Nationwide series. It's a shame it didn't pan out for him. Never got to see him in the Nationwide series live, but I did get to see him and Kyle Busch in an ARCA/CRA race at my home track back in 2012. I didn't remember too many details other than that Kyle won, so I went back and looked it up. Travis finished 24th out of 30, but the more interesting thing was the other notable names that showed up in the field. Chase Elliot finished 2nd, Ross Kenseth 5th, Daniel Hemric 11th, and Austin Theriault 13th. I didn't know those names at the time, but it's cool looking back and knowing that I got to watch those guys live before most other people did.

I’ve Always had a more of an outsider perspective of nascar, started to get into it really in 2011 and I always was excited to see Travis race, sucks it never worked out for him..

8:55, that’s the problem. He doesn’t have the sensitivity you cant drive a stock car like that.

First Travis is a badass hands down.Me being a long time Nascar fan i have seen many drivers from different disciplines of racing try their luck without success. So for me their is a little-bit of bitter sweet here. The reason for that feeling is all the naysayers of Nascar, and think that it is easy or what ever negative comment they can come up with. When you are in a 3,275 lb car with over 700 hp and no TC or ABS a true 4 speed low downforce compared to other forms of racing we are talking real drivers needed. It may not look like it on TV but these guys are on a razors edge all the time. They sit in a race car that can reach temps of over 150 degrees in the summer months for 3 to 4 hours.Pitstops can make or break you,and that by itself is like a show case of a drivers talent. So Travis was not the first to fail and will not be the last.I just hope he and others has gained a little more respect for the goodol boys type racing.Turning left ain't as easy as it may look, and that's a fact jack

What wasn’t mentioned is that he only won that Rally gold medal in 2006 because Colin McRae rolled it, got a puncture, went down to 1st gear *during the roll,* and still finished only half a second behind Pastrana. Pastrana than straight up called McRae "a god."
