Nasa Perseverance Mars rover begins key journey to find life - BBC News

Nasa's Perseverance rover has reached a big moment in its mission to find evidence of life on Mars.
The robot will begin to climb up an ancient delta feature in the crater where it landed, stopping to examine rocks that could possibly retain evidence of life.
On its way back down, Perseverance will collect some of these rocks, placing the samples at the base of the delta to be retrieved by later missions.
The goal is to bring this material back to Earth in the 2030s for detailed inspection.
The BBC’s Science editor Rebecca Morelle reports.

    Lol It’s the first in our solar system. Of course there have been countless societies capable of short range space flight. Given the size and age of the universe, millions of civilisations have risen and fallen. Most probably never had the resources to make it further than nearby planets. The chances of alien life in our neighbourhood is low depending on frequency. But certainly life in our galaxy now and in the past. The universe is extremely vast. There’s a very good chance that there’s an advanced civilisation capable of spanning several star systems within a hundred million light years of us.

    Firstly, it won't be fossils but chemical signatures, and these certainly will not be cloneable. Secondly, some knowledge is worthwhile even if it has no practical function. How and where life can arise is pretty important in my view!

  • @wildsideofthings7733

    @wildsideofthings7733

    The genetics of these fossils would be so old and eroded you wouldn't be able to clone let alone get much info out of their genes. The oldest complete strand of DNA is only a million years old(it was of a wooly mammoth), the dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago and these fossils are over 3-4 billion years old. We also don't know what their genetics would've been made of. DNA and RNA evolved on Earth, whatever genetic code they developed would've evolved independently of Earth.

    @0-0-0 QSR scientific discoveries that have contradicted religion have been happening for thousands of years from the earth not being flat, to the earth not being the center of the universe, evolution being the origin of species and the planet being 4.5 billion years old rather than a few thousand. These things have happened many times throughout the ages and are expected since religion was created before these discoveries were made. Religious people will do what they've always done in the face of new scientific discoveries, simply ignore the discovery. Christians still believe God made the earth and life in 7 days even though Darwin published his theory in 1859 that says species evolved over millions of years while Christians believe the earth is only thousands of years old. No apocalypse is going to happen because of this, religious people will just brush it under the rug and move on like they've always done while scientists and science minded people will be excited about humanity's greater understanding of the universe.

    There's a lot of proof about God, about the Bible - things like Sodom & Gomorra, the time of Moses & Egypt, about The Garden of Eden (it was in Jerusalem), Noahs Ark was found (it was found under the ice glaciers on the top of Mount Ararat, there was an expedition, there's footage), the Tower of Babel too (it's in Iraq), you'd poo yourself if you saw a Demon ;) God loves you, he loves everyone. His one and only son Jesus Christ died for your Sins bro, Hell is in the center of the earth, everyone only spoke one language back in those times, was Ancient Hebrew. A lot of ancient tablets that were found also backed up stuff in the Bible too detailing scriptures. Maybe do some research before mocking something you know nothing of ;)
