I think action sequences look much better in the new style, but the old style is much better when it comes to dramatic moments.

No they don't, just look back at old Lee vs gaara, sasuke vs naruto, sasuke vs orochimaru, naruto's overall animation and artstyle quality has dropped drastically in the war arc, they only had some occasional extremely rare good animation moments in madara ep, and the final fight.

I feel like it depends on the scene. For most it is true, but there are also some where the new version looks more emotional, for example the scene with Naruto patting Gaara.

I think a really big thing is that they just left out a lot of details. Pay close attention to people's eyes, especially the sharingan, and especially any closeups of faces. There are a lot of moments where the eyes are just lacking any sense of depth or where they moved closeups further out or even had characters close their eyes entirely rather than try to replicate the old level of detail. This is a shame because it's been so long since the original aired yet the people working on that made sure that the eyes always had a bunch of detail in them and were as consistent about it as they could be. It really does make a huge difference in the amount of drama a scene has and the amount of expression characters have.

@Hezuna hizuchi i actually like how the sharingan and rasengans actualy glow. Comparing the old and new honestly makes the flashy moves stand out in the old version because you'd think it would glow but it dosent

Yeah I feel like if they we’re doing a full length anime though it could be debated. Like dragon ball supers switch In animation for the Broly movie when we got the trailer a lot of people where thrown for the simpler art style and line work compared to what we were used too in Z. But when the movie cdd as me out we saw how great the lighting effects and animation were and how detailed a lot of shots can still be. Same r we it’s one pieces new wano arc I feel like it’s really more a situation we’re it’s just what you prefer more then anything.

I disagree. In majority (there's exceptions), new drawings are more detailed, anatomically correct, dynamic and expressive. That's not subjective, that's a fact. Because of nostalgia, it can look better, but it's not.

@@FerikkusuOCa look at 0:21. Sasuke's perspective is WAY worse in the new one, he looks like he's a titan. In terms of anatomy the old one is also wayyy better, the only shot they did better in the PV is the kurama vs orochimaru one. Everything else just looks worse than the original scenes, the PV doesn't even do the job of being more accurate to the manga.

The new animation only focuses on saturation and contrasts instead of the emotional meaning of the given scene. For example 4:40 the light in the old version makes pain look devine, there's nothing wrong about lighting up even dark parts or black outlines of a scene if it fits the context

Well, to be fair, this whole reanimation was for a quick compilation where each scene lasted about two seconds, so I don’t know about the whole “emotional meaning” thing. It makes sense to make it flashy and aesthetically pleasing, because that’s what will capture your attention and in general looks nicer. They’re not trying to recreate the emotional weight of every scene.

New animations has bright colors which sometimes makes it look like a cartoon, while original ones are densed, and it brings out more emotions.

The red and blue colors pop more in the newer version which makes blood, fox chakra, sharingan, chidori , and rasengan stick out a lot more. Dark!Sasuke also looks a lot more twisted this time around with the dark purple lighting. Itachi also got quite the glow up.

Man, I miss the artstyle of early Shippuden, it felt so unique after finishing the og Naruto. Still believing they should've sticked to this style to the very end instead of constantly changing it.

Yeah but it’s because it was celled and hand drawn fully for the most part. No animation studios do that anymore due to the cost of it, and the fact it just takes much longer to produce. Personally yeah, the old hand drawn style brings out a duller tone which in turn makes the whole story feel darker, (which is what Naruto needs). Which is just perfect.

Their faces look so much better in the old animation, their emotions are much more raw and visible... And quite frankly, everyone looks prettier in the old one

They basically took the character designs they use in Boruto, which is a bit more cartoonish. However the manga also changed the style, mostly making a lot of characters appear more child-like.

I'm really happy that so many of us have the same opinion - that we prefer the original and more emotional style, even if the quality can wildly vary. I do enjoy the improved lighting and FX, but really preferred how the characters looked older in the original. Very odd seeing Sausage and Nardo in some of these new shots.

There's something about the old art style that makes the cast look more mature, whereas the new art style makes them look younger. I think the older style makes more sense in this case as the cast ages throughout the show and is my personal preference regarding them becoming mature within the timeline. That said, the new technique does look nice in some aspects. I love how they made it a point to highlight the sharingan to show the viewers a direction they should be looking at and the details within effects are much more highlighted than they were previously. I noticed in the newer art style, things were more round as opposed to pointed. Like their hair or chins, for example, the roundness provides a "cuter" look as opposed to the sharp edges look. Perhaps this is why the older style appears to be more mature than the new one? I will say, not a fan of 1:18 new cloak Naruto... Not sure what happened there but the perspective of the face was probably not the animator's forte, and that's okay. Things happen and perspective is hard. All in all, pros and cons to the new style. It's not bad and looks good in certain aspects but is also not my favorite at times.

Can’t quite put my finger on which one is my favorite at 6:30 Left side is iconic and right one looks more sadistic. The right one makes sasuke looks like he’s smiling. They’re both well done imo.

That's a good way to put it. I like both, they're similar but they're different. One is creepy and traumatizing and the other is eerie and foreboding, almost maliciously friendly in a way. I guess sadistic as you put it. And I love a sadistic Sasuke

These days it's much more of a gradient, combined with cel-shading. Gives it a more "realistic" approach. Love both styles, but the old version was fairly strictly on cel-shading from what I recall. Both styles are great, but I just visually prefer the new one.

there's a BIG problem here. the art style of the PV is NOT designed to be watched in paused frames. smear makes it much smoother, specially in comparison with early Naruto. The comparison should be made in active movement.

I feel the direction of the original was much better and made more sense in some scenario's , 6:31 the original has a lot more weight and shock to it than the new one. 6:49 visible eye damage due to mangekyo abuse whereas the new one is just purely normal. A LOT of the new ones look good but that's simply because newer technology and effects being much easier made than in the past. 4:13 Sasuke's mouth looks very off putting but if the bloodied eyes combined with the OG blur and definition, it'd be beyond GOAT frames. 4:42 contrary to what some say that the blur in OG is weird, in this specific scene it sets the tone just all too well and it kinda boosted the art quality, new one looks too goofy. 5:51 no need to say much the new version takes this by a LANDSLIDE I'm biased and surprised how good the OG was looking for it's time compared to the new PV but it'd be amazing if we had the old style with newer techniques meshed together.

You forgot to mention some gross mistakes they made. I'll name 3 here, but there must be two more that I can't remember right now. 4:44 Naruto's clothes 6:15 Susanoo with 6 fingers 12:50 Sasuke without Rinnesharingan Idiot mistakes, that if they had just a little attention, they corrected. The roughest of them all is the Rinnesharingan, you can't forget to put it on... Like the movie "The Last", which they also forgot.

Old art is only art, like there is such a thing as an art style, kishimoto has one of the best and most recognisable art styles, and they completely changed it for some shitty lines, egg shaped faces, less details and bright colors, I'd be so pissed if I was kishimoto, imagine if the new bleach anime had completely different art style almost unrecognisable, this pissed me off beyond belief as someone who's been drawing their whole life, and naruto artstyle in particular had a massive influence on my own art style and completely shat on it.

@@james1311na well it did a terrible job "competing", the boruto artstyle is from kishimoto's assistant, if you want to see the real kishimoto boruto art style it's in the shin uchiha arc manga, of course he wouldn't want anyone to copy his artstyle wtf. This new artstyle is absolutely garbage in every way, and insulting to the og art style which had more substance in the lines, fuller bodies, mostly when people say modern art style they just mean tiny bodies and less detailed faces, everything nowadays is pedo bait trash.

In the new art its weird because they try to make it too smooth and enlarge facial features it makes them look squishy than serious but the new coloring and effects are good

The original almighty push looked so much better from a still shot, but the animation of the scene itself definitely improved... Kinda hard to live up to that though, it's such a legendary panel in the manga, with so much attention to small detail.

All the newer animations did was saturate the colors and contrast and added excess after affects. It makes all the scenes look like there in the same environment

cool, they change most of the perspective and point of view, which is much more better this time, also I love they way they show expressions in here, it’s much more detailed and way more realistic even the proportion are recreated much more properly, like the size of Itachi’s hand is way bigger now, or when Madara shows up, his 3/4 face is presented more accurately outside of that, I love the lighting too, thank you Studio Pierrot and whoever other studio involved in creating this, you did such amazing job, this is probably how Naruto should’ve been if they had more time to work on without time restrictions

My opinions who hasn't watched Naruto: - Old: 1. Better at cinematography, every frame is gorgeous and can literally be used as wallpaper because it's very aesthetic, I mean look at Old of 3:50 (the character sitting), it looks like a delicate painting instead of an Anime's frame. 2. Has a clear art direction. The artists know what they were trying to achieve in every frame. 3. You can feel the artists/animators soul in every frame, you can feel their anger and sadness through the characters' expressions. They were putting themselves into the positions of the characters. 4. Makes me want to watch the anime (which the New fails to do) 5. They don't need cheap dramatic compositions/angles (which are overused in modern animes) to make the frames look cool, the frames look extremely intense because there have already been emotions put inside them. 6. Don't have cheap VFX. - New: 1. Better colors/saturations and has more colors' values (just because it's new and is created by modern computers). 2. Not better at anything else.

3:50 isn't even all that bad, you can see how they experiment in their cinematography by putting more dynamic in perspectives when the original is really just a blurred image with nothing going on? 1:38 Expresses frustration by adding 6 or so lines, 3:28 expresses emptiness and death by shading, 2:53 expresses condescendings, you can see the direction they put into this artistan's sadistic nature. They all are very clear and expressive as far as I can tell From 0:00 to 9:42, Naruto's 20th Anniversary has made a lot of people happy, both fans and boomers that couldn't get into the original would be able to access a revision, "much shorter (cutting out fillers) but maintaining the quality" kind of a show. The "VFX" and "dramatic compositions/angles" isn't cheap either, as referenced with the timestamps above I think it's an exaggeration if you say that there's nothing impressive about the new version that makes the original pale in comparison

What everyone is forgetting is the anime at the time follows the style Kishimoto in the manga. When Kishimoto changed his style, the anime also follows. This pv use the last style Kishimoto uses for the whole characters.

I doubt the anime followed Kishimoto's art style very well since most key moment's look like crap. And it's not even the budget or time. Studio pierrot was more busy milking Naruto with garbage filler movies instead of putting everything on manga canon episodes.

@@bruh-tx7tb you can reread the manga again and compare the anime at the exact frame. Or even ask expert. You'll see how they draw things is the exact same Kishimoto. Animation is one thing but characters design and styling is the exact same when it's exact copy of the frame in the manga.

Remake just has that depth and intensity in it. Especially in the naruto vs sasuke scene. Like it brings to light the emotions of the characters through all their journeys, huddled perfectly into a legendary fight scene!

The old style is way better it’s more mature and darker in tone which matches the show better. The new animations focuses way too much on saturating the colors and contrast and adding excessive after affects to hide the lack of detail or care for emotional depiction. Examples 4:40 and 5:51 and especially 8:01

the new is better in quality and lighting and maybe animation too BUT The art style and emotions to make it feel real is better in the old version.

I prefer the old art much more, they were drawn bolder Nowadays they're drawn pretty flat and it looks cheap It's actually a lot easier to recreate modern scenes and frames then it was back then Attesting to the drop in detail however they improved vastly on lighting and shadow detail so that's the trade off I prefer bolder animation, doesn't look fan drawn and adds depth, literally and figuratively, to the characters on screen

I hope they redo the "my pain is far greater than yours" perfectly again.

For Naruto, the new one looks so childish

I wouldn’t say every single screenshot was an improvement and I do believe that some “manga-like moments” are lost. But damn, that trailer got me hyped! Hope we get a good announcement this 17th of December.

both have their charms, I am a little bias towards the original look, but the new 20th anniversary doesn't look bad, also I recgonize one of the tracks you added, Akatsuki Hideout from Ultimate Ninja 5, my man, you have taste

We don't need excessive number of best animation give us the old memories back it will be more satisfying for us ...

Old art style is better, the new just made the colors and lighting better. Old feels more solid and present on screen. New feels thin and flat

11:46 OG is better in my opinion but the updated has WAY better lighting

shippuden for the most part doesn't have drastic changes. The art style of the original shipppuden became more modernized as it ran after all

I prefer the old artstyle even in naruto part 1 now that I re watching some episodes. It was less clean they look more beaten up in the old one and I love it. In the Sasuke- Itachi's farewell scenes their hair looks so much better and fuller on the old artstyle😍😍 Hidan looks amazing and brutal on the old. Asuma looks better at the new artstyle I guess

Imo, the old style is better and is more detailed, and the colour choices in some scenes are better too. The emotional scenes are better too. while the new one is more saturated and mostly has better colour choices and it honestly looks cartoonish and obviously the animation is better

The new one looks good but what im really looking forward to is the fights, imagine the new looking fights with madara bodying the entire shinobi army or pain vs 6 tails naruto, that was crazy it looked like cartoon lol

The new one is so clean, the sharingan actually glows now, Characters look better, if you know what I mean😏, And also The rain looks so cool and also tears, and just how they deal with the lighting looks so cool, and also a phenomenal new looking shadow clone Justus smoke and angles combined with lighting, but one of the best parts is the chidori and rasengan and their respected glows and everything just looks better, 10/10

I’d love a reboot because that just means more Naruto. The old show would still be there.
