Narcissism and Family Emotional Instability #79

Emotional family delusion is where a family member, especially a narcissist mother or father, mentally and emotionally substitute a child to be a husband or wife in their delusional thinking. The child may be treated as the spouse was once, and may become a (spouse child) to the parent.

My mother and her son-husband, my Golden Child brother. My dad died in 2015 an empty husk after 50 years of her abuse. I am the oldest and only daughter and the Family Scapegoat, of course.

you are very correct in all you say John ... toxic Sociapthic families are devoide of natural human love and caring and their is no proper acceptable boundaries. The more toxic and disordered the family is the more the huge fallout for the children raised within this family unit. Conditioning and cohersive control becomes the norm.

My ex narc did this to me and his daughter! He used his daughter as his wife and I was the outcast! It was the strangest thing I've ever been through in my life! I was so confused. But when I would say something that I fealt was strange he would tell me I was sick for thinking something like that. But I'm realizing I wasn't sick at all. He would treat his teenage daughter like she was his girlfriend. He would hold her hand instead of mine. He would let her sleep in his bed and tell me to go out on the couch. He would say she wanted to lay in bed with him tonight. He would smack her on her butt and say "that's my ass"! When we went out to dinner at restaurants he would talk to her like she was the date while ignoring me. He would have her sit up front in the car sometimes while we went somewhere and I would be in the back seat. I could go on and on. She didn't like me so it was always like a competition between me and her. Before I realized what narcissistic abuse was this was the most confusing time in my life! Thank God I'm not alone with this. He was so abusive in every way possible. Thank you for talking about this because there isn't allot of info on this but it definitely happens!

I went through the same thing!!!!! I wrote a whole post on it. I thought I was crazy and then left. When I got a therapist she said she was obligated to report him to CPS and I panicked. I was so afraid of him and still am. It will be a year in August and I still feel guilt, shame and fear.

Narcs love to triangulate. He should be reported for sexual child abuse and his daughter will need counseling.

It doesn't matter how much you think you know, someone else always has a new one for you. I'd tell my mother as a kid that I wasn't her husband. This turned into huge arguments. I really just gotta go be a hermit for while and tear it all down internally eh?

Oh my God, I never realized that this is my disabled brother now. I thought he was safe, just hiding all the time. Some really messed up things are making sense now.

i dont want to sever the family by leaving them all go, but i feel this may be the only way, everyone simply fools themselves into thinking this is normal, meanwhile the mother is lazy and childish and offended at anything that accuses lack of responsibility as a parent ( i know shes had a tough time) but i honestly feel her support for us has actually disabled us to help ourselves as adults.. somehow my sister got out ok..

my brother is disabled and my mother treats him like a boyfriend (judt turned 20). I am the eldest of 4 and have seen the family go through this, I moved in again with tje excuse of 'helping' my brother, but.. she plays him against me in the most disgusting ways, I am 30 yrs old and very strong mentally, but this is just so deeply woven, if she doesnt get from my little brother or me at home she will drag in my other brother (25). I quite often wondered why i always turned to drugs and drink and entertained certain thoughts, (my dad treated my sister as a wife too)

I bought a house, three years ago. I'm heavily disabled, I had it made accessible for me. My STEP-father and me paid everything (100.000€ total, 35k out of my own pocket). In two days, I will move out of this house... With my STEP-dad. The house will be kept as trophy by my mother and her spouse-child, my younger brother (My stepdad's son). My brother is a 23 years old virgin. He never worked, never went to a nightclub, and has no friends. He told us that he probably won't come and see us, because we are moving to far away. According to him, he is not 13 years old anymore, and don't want to walk the 1.2 mile to our temporary next house.

People like you helped us a lot put words on the problem. I've lived 37 years with no clue about what was happening to me. In France, we don't put words on problems as much as the English world. For example, we don't have a word for bully, so we can't actually fight the problem in schools, because nobody can identify it, without a word for it... And thanks to people like you, I can... Moderate my anger towards my brother since I know now, he's just an other victim. I just hope his life gets shitty enough so he wakes up and comes with us... In exile... If only I was a sociopath too, I could perfectly use my ownership of the house to get her the fuck out. But well. I'm not.

I need a lot more information. A narcissist has 9 characteristics. I have a video that describes these. ( Nine characteristics of Narcissism )
