    I have run two sets of the AR-1 and concur with you. I don't have the horsepower you have but for the money you can't beat them. They also lasted longer than any tire I have used.

    Oh, have you considered getting them locally? Lou Giolotti has them at G2 in Anna, Texas (has a new track he built too!) His son, Louis is the owner of G Speed (the big Corvette shop) at MSR. He is big distributor of Nankang and also a long time high level racer. He can also probably answer your issue on the tire pressure going up so dramatically. It’s like an hour drive for me, but no shipping costs which will more than covers the gas out there! 😂 Other Vette guys have good things to say about the AR-1st too. Glad to see some Mustangs and others try them.

    Tim, this is Mike with red C6Z you know from MSR. I run the AR-1’s and like them also. There are better tires but for the money these are great! Imo the grip is excellent and they don’t fall off and get greasy during the session. Weird you’re getting such high pressures. I start off about 27-28 and after the first two sessions have to take a little more out but I run them around 34-36 psi. Idk why yours are getting so high. Maybe it’s the difference in car weight (as you know mine is a lot lighter) or what others said about moisture in them. What kind of compressor are you filling them with? I would think the shop that initially mounted them has “clean dry air”? Weird. I guess keep dropping the initial pressure till you find what works for ya. Did you ever get good laps with the correct pressure and no traffic to compare the times with other tires? I’m sure they aren’t gonna beat Hoosier slicks but prob close, maybe a second off 3R’s?…. For less money. lol. Good tires and nice video.

    Hello Mike! Yes, my car is heavier. It also has more power and intense brakes. The shop I used to install the tires is the same one I used for other tires. The AR-1s do offer great grip for the price. I just had to keep adjusting my start pressure lower and lower while learning the tires. The Goodyear F1 3Rs are faster for my setup, but they also cost more.

    Pyrometer readings? Perhaps if you started with higher pressures and have less flexing causing the heat buildup, it might work better. Pressures as low as you are starting with not ideal?

  • @ShelbyFlyer

    @ShelbyFlyer

    I tried higher pressures at first and my on-track pressures shot up north of 40. Through trial and error, I found I needed to start much lower on the cold pressures.

    how would you compare these to super car 3r?

  • @ShelbyFlyer

    @ShelbyFlyer

    Жыл бұрын

    They’re both 100 tread wear. The AR-1s are cheaper and offer good grip. You just have to start with lower pressures. The 3Rs are more expensive and have more grip. They are also less temperamental.

    We use nitrogen in shocks & tires when we can. Shocks are must actually. You don't have to achieve 100% nitrogen fill (& ya cant w/o great expense & wrk thats just not worth it for most levels of competition besides prof racing) to achieve a higher rather high % of nitrogen fill, thus resulting in greater pressure stability over a wider temp range. Unfiltered moisture from these trendy 12V/& battery style compressors (They are very convenient, yes, but bad for Moisture content control in tires) results in difficulty to calibrate increases as weather cond chg. Use an hand carried 5 gal air tank, at the track, thats had a vac pulled on it, & then filled w/nitrogen to correct tire pressures. U can get to about 90% 'N' purity that way. We have 1 high pressure fill tank for our shocks, as you must fill racing shocks w/nitrogen. Otherwise the moisture from reg compressed air will throw off the pressures terribly as they heat up. Trying to calculate this increase is an easy but inaccurate way to achieve results. All the data we accumulated on how much to underfill ea tire when its, say 30% humidity, is not very congruent when you get to 80%+ humidity. Yeah, in a tire its only a 10%/12% chg in pressures from cold to hot. But its a change you can control & must control in a shock, cuz its much worse as a small vessel. In wrap up, even if you only have 75% nitrogen in the tires, u have reduced the thermal expansion chances by about that much or a bit more. At least fill your air tank w/atmosphere thats been moisture filtered, if you don't wanna deal with a filteron your 12v or battery pwr portable track compressor. Or not! We all tolerate a different amt of variables in racing, based on our competitive levels we operate at. Some fruit is still low hanging. Like Cryogenic Stabilization of brake pads, & vibratory stress relief of rotors. All 'Coggs in the Wheel' of competitive racing. Great video!
