I can see this keyboard producing the new soundtrack of my life! Previously it's been the sound of the Whoopee Cushion.

I really hope they will add more reverb types on the Wavestate - esp. that „submarine“ algorithm from the Minilogue XD! 🙌🏻

I'm waiting for the rack too, the controls on this keyboard pretty much perfectly fit into 4U. Just gotta move the joystick

@@NineHellHeaven For some odd reason companies don't make their stuff "rack-able" anymore. I was a huge fan of the MS2000r (which I still own). I'd love to see Korg return to form. Otherwise, I'm still pre-ordering after I get back in town.

Well like I said all the controls fit into the internal dimensions of a 4U rack perfectly already, they’d just need to move the joystick. I’m not too optimistic they will do it either, but more based on Korg’s recent form (last rack was what.. RADIAS?) than any technical difficulties. The Minilogue XD Module was a lazy hack job that looked pretty much the same as people’s DIY efforts.. if they were clever they’d have already spun the PCBs for the keyboard Wavestate to work in both form factors already

I have owned two wavestations in the past (EX and AD). The sound is absolutely amazing. However, the presets are very distinctive and easy to recognise whenever they are heard. If you want to not sound like you just bought a sound library, then you need to be able to edit it. That screen is ridiculously small, especially when you have to scroll through multiple samples for each wave sequence which is insanely tedious. This NEEDS an editor, otherwise it's going to be a one tricky pony that everybody has. Once a few of those sounds have appeared on tracks and tv nobody is going to want to reuse them.

  • @stephencgregory

@Blue That's fine you don't agree, but have you tried creating a wave sequence or watched any tutorials? I actually wrote my own editor for the original wavestation because it was so painful to program. This looks even worse.

I would rather either have it with WAAAAY more controls in a 5 octave keyboard, or as a module. Once the module version is announced I will pre-order it. It wont be announced until the summer though.

Sounds amazing ( as always with Korg gears :) ) I happily see here that they removed that "space-wasting" bezel they had on minilogue shape ( minilogue is absolutely amazing, nevertheless ;) )

From watching the demos, I think I see why they didn't need to go 5 octaves. It's not a traditional polysynth where on plays left hand octaves, or big two handed synth chords/comping...it's more that the left hand (or one hand) triggers drones, samples, etc. while the other plays melodies etc. It may even turn out that when we slave it to 5 octaves, we don't use as many keys as we think. We shall see.

Hmm. Good luck editing wave sequences with that tiny little screen. It was almost impossible on the original wavestation with a screen 3x the size!

I whish Korg would stop selling this as a "film scoring" synth. I get it that that line sells units to the NOT film scoring wannabies - but no composer scoring a film will ever use the limited orchestral samples of the Wavestate for actual music. ;)

you can put 64 different samples in a line, and set how much they blend into each other as they change or just, make them switch with no fading, should be able to get wavetable scanning sounds out of it. iYou would just be scanning or fading through say 10 violin samples instead of a wavetable of a violin, I'm no scientist but I think It will be able to fake wavetable sounds
