I love seeing people watching Al Murray because it confuses them so badly of how he acts the role of a Pub Landlord yet he's so educated. it's fantastic.

Helps that he studied history at Oxford University. He has done some highly acclaimed docs on the Allied advance during the Second World War

I was a pub chef for years and had a landlord like that with the "never ending pint". When the evening rush started to die about 8pm he would pull himself a real ale. And just repeatedly top it up whenever he got down to about a quarter. So he only dirtied one glass but by 11pm the geezer was always about 15 pints deep. And we'd walk out after a 12 hour shift doing nearly 500 covers and he'd make us pay full whack for our beers lmao. What a cunt 😂

Yep. He's a professional who only drinks non-alcoholic drinks on stage.

not exactly true he started off actualy drinking alcoholic beer but found he kept needing the loo, so he swapped it to non alcoholic, but he has his own beer made

The drink is part of the act - thats why his alter ego is 'the pub landlord'. He is insanely quick witted and intelligent, but I have seen him a little drunk in his local in chiswick 🤣

Excellent, YOU GOT IT!!!!! It was really lovely to hear you both laugh at Al's take on the 'war with the USA'... ''A lucky f++king escape!'' So many other 'React' vids presenters get upset and start to complain about his 'jokes'... several think this to be a real person... And no he's not a drunk. It may even be no-alcohol beer... do you think anyone would take the chance of ruining a show because he'd have 'one too many'? It could be a shandy (half beer, half lemonade) anyway as he always does(on purpose) he spills quite a lot. He's being what is thought to be a typical old-fashioned know it all pub Landlord... they always stood around with a drink whilst chatting with customers... not like the corporate-run 'pubs' now, with managers who are ambassadors for the company. They did have a charm and were characters in their own right. Not so now, very few and far between. In reality he isn't a loud-mouthed know it all. He is an extremely intelligent, well educated (Oxford University graduate) well versed in British culture, politics, World history and current events... oh, and a know-it-all ha ha ha. He ( as part joke and to prove a point) ran for Gov't/ to be an MP. as his character The Pub Landlord... The Guvnor as he's known too. He got 318 votes.

He playes on being a little drunk as it goes on behaves a little dirty when he see's an attractive woman, but always in courage joining in but he controls the crowd well. X great comedian 👌

I remember seeing him as a warm up guest comedian before he was famous. The guy is absolutely amazing at sound fx. It was a spot on sketch prob from 90s.

Al Murray did a degree in history. A number of years ago he did a documentary on WW2 on discovery channel. He was in character as pub landlord which he did in a comedy series Time Please Gentlemen.

Oxford graduate, history specialist, he puts on a persona of a working class voice, but in fact he’s a well spoken super smart guy.

just in case you don't know - Al Murray is a comedic character played by Alisatir James Hay Murray- The character of Al is a right wing, xenophobic,mysoginistic, homophobic pub landlord who belives Britain is still "the best" in everything - there are some complaints about him from people who don't realise that Alistair Murray is using the character of Al to satarise this type of "Little Englander" - he's gloriously funny in the way he mocks this type of person - worth checking out his other videos - there hilarious!

He has a stage persona of a drunkard pub owner - in reality he's a very clever man who uses an incredible sense of humour to make so many laugh about Britain and the world - so glad Chicago Reacts appreciate his performance!

Although, like everyone said, Al Murray is a genuinely smart guy, he did make one glaring mistake: Burkina Faso was never a German colony. It was a French colony.

The beer is a prop. Al Murray is a literal genius. He also has a history degree from Oxford.

He has a PhD in history from Oxford. He is drinking non alcoholic beer. His persona is a stage act as the landlord of a pub, traditionally represented as a know all. Check out his Countries of the World, or even better Global Finance, amazing!

Slash from Guns and Roses was always drinking his Jack Daniels on stage he laughingly admitted it just cold black tea, he said how do you think I can play with two bottles of bourbon inside me?

It's hard to fake a head on a pint. In other videos of live performances he's also drinking brown beers i.e. bitter. Which is traditional, proper British beer, as seen in war movies during WW2 with RAF pilots drinking in the pub from tankards - dark, not clear.

Al Murray actually went to Oxford and has a degree in Modern History. This persona he is using is his 'pub landlord' schtick. He's brilliant :D

What a lot of people DON'T realise about Al Murray is that he is IN FACT a fully-qualified Pub Landlord, with an Advanced Certificate in Landlording Studies from Watney University - and is only PLAYING the part of an Oxford History graduate doing a stand-up routine.............as a pub landlord. Hence, for example, his ability to pull a pint whilst pretending to deliver a history lesson. Brilliance such as this is rare (and non-existent, of course, in the USA).

He studied Modern History at an Oxford University. He does a superb WW2 podcast with historian James Holland called ‘We Have Ways of Making You Talk’ - I have learned a great deal about WW2 since listening to that.

He had a series on television where he played the pub landlord which is where this act came from and he was not drunk. This is the part he plays

You might enjoy "Yes Minister" & "Yes Prime Minister". Very sharp, very intelligent comedy about the nature of governments. Not right or left, it is what "The West Wing" and "Veep" could only aspire to dreaming of being.

He is an Oxford educated historian of some distinction. In real life he is polite and well spoken. His pub persona is just that...

You do realise Al Murray graduated University of Oxford, where he read modern history, a lot of the famous British comedians graduated prestigious universities. John Cleese is a Cambridge graduate with a law degree. So many English comedians are highly educated people.

Kit if you used to watch doctor who you should watch Al Murray interviews John Barrowman!

He isn't drunk guys. He is a very intelligent Oxford educated comedian/historian. If you see him as him, you'll see he us charming and nothing like his character. You should watch his programme entitled 'Why does everyone hate the British.'. Take a look at Micky Flanagan especially the 'out out tour'. Particularly the part where he talks about his time in New York lol. Catherine Tate is an excellent comedian to watch. Very very funny.

The greatest thing about Al Murray is not his knowledge of history, its his knowledge of the future. He identified the coming of western nationalism (aka Brexiteering or Trumpism) 20 years before it happened and created a fictional character around it called The Pub Landlord. The beer he drinks is non alcohol but he drinks it to create the illusion of a low educated, working class, right winger who screams patriotic rhetoric but lacks the intelligence to comprehend what he’s saying. Not saying all Brexit/Trump supporters are like this but the character is a perfect representation of the stereotype Al Murray the man is an absolute genius
