American’s use both. We use Jam for preserves with actual fruit in it, even if it’s seedless. Jelly (grape, mint etc.) is just the fruit “juice” flavor and sugar with no fruit. But yeah, it’s so expensive…reminds be of the movie soylent green where only the very rich had jam.

We make jam, jelly and preserves. Jelly is clear and made from the juice of fruits. Jam has chopped up and mashed fruit. Preserves have large or whole chunks of fruit.

I totally agree, I am a total non smoker and hate the smell but I detest the overreach of the government doing things that ARE NOT THEIR JOB. I even waffled on seatbelts, but agreed only because we are bound by agreement to follow the traffic laws and we are on public provided roads, bridges & overpasses when we get a driver’s license. Smoking is personal choice and even if it’s helpful to quit it’s up to the person to decide.

Strawberries don’t grow in an orchard, and it’s very early season in California. So, from where are the strawberries sourced, and where and by whom was the jam manufactured? Of most, has FDA approved the jam and manufacturing process for human consumption? The label is also void of indication of what’s inside. To sell commercially, there are a multitude of regulatory requirements, including best before, ingredients…..

MM’s JamS have been sent to Influences, but they are rejecting them because the Labels are Falling Off and there are No Ingredients Listed on the Label except the Jam Flavour.

Please, let's not call it calligraphy. It is squirely handwriting - like we did in our early teens. Adding a loopdy loop here and a flourish there does not make it calligraphy. Calligraphy is an art.

The idea that the government should be in charge of what we can and cannot do to ourselves is ridiculous and outrageous.

I actually find it hard to believe that Meghan made the batch herself. But even if she did, she's not going to be making the large quantities needed for selling to the public. It doesn't make sense to me. She can get away with not disclosing the ingredients and calorie count right now because she's gifting them to "friends." I wonder how far into actual production this jam is. I think it hasn't yet started. I suppose, she just likes teasing the public, thinking that will make her look productive and generate sales. Not buying any of it. For sure not the jam. I will not fund her in any way.

I live 3-1/2 hours north of the despicable duo. Strawberries are just now coming into season. We’ve had unusual (for April) rains. Santa Barbara County does grow strawberries, and if there are really only 50 tiny jars, some talented lady took 4 cups strawberries and at least 7 cups sugar, with a couple tablespoons of lemon juice, and cooked, adding pectin at the right time, and made at least 20 of these small jars . I’ve already made jam from Monterey County strawberries.

@@daylehudson6810 We were banned from smoking during Covid & but we managed to get ciggies. We can no longer smoke inside any building. Many people stopped smoking but most people who still smoke do so outside their homes & not in the cars. So others aren't affected by passive smoking.

Wait until food inspectors pop around … here in USA they are NOTORIOUS for being incredibly picky with strict laws to protect the public. Cooking and selling it from your home kitchen is very difficult.

What is the FDA definition of jam? “Preserves” and “Jams” (interchangeable FDA terms), must contain at least 55 percent sugar and 45 percent fruit. If a product does not meet these requirements, it must be called by another name.

Jam has the fruit mashed up in it. Jelly is put through strainer so the fruit doesn't get in. With the pectin it is all cooked for awhile so the flavor is there either way

Also if selling commercially where the product is produced has to be inspected by OSHA. A local ice cream stand owner was making and storing cakes or novelties at home. She was stopped from selling them until OSHA inspectors came, and they inspect everything from where it’s made to the freezer they are stored in.

There are multiple issues with Meghan’s jam! She may be stopped in her tracks. Montecito is extremely protective of their status and don’t want their status cheapened in this way. Also, are the ingredients sourced from Montecito, if not, that’s a problem. Additionally, food products are strictly regulated in the US. The “gift” is associated with a brand that doesn’t include ingredient list, UPC code, etc. This is not allowed!

Strawberry preserves or "jam" are, and have always been, a favorite in America. I can't remember my family ever having another flavor of "jam" in our house. Strawberry is one of the most popular flavors here. It is a "thing" here.

I think 'jams' in America are called 'jelly', so no one will know what on earth 'strawberry jam' is!

In the U.S.A we have jelly and fruit preserves....which some regions here refer to as "jam". And Americans love strawberry, always have, there are even festivals that feature anything made with strawberries.

Just noticed the corners in the jar which will make it difficult to scrape out the last of the jam. Being frugal, I scrape out every last drop with a small rubber spatula.

Jam and preserves are synonymous. In the US jelly is made of clear juice and sugar. In the UK jelly = a dessert like our Jello. As a calligraphy instructor, her “script” is not at all calligraphic.
