Marshy, and all Pokémon TCG enthusiasts longing for slower formats that let you make lots of cool decisions: Gym Leader Challenge format is amazing. It’s a highlander variant where you pick one type (color) of Pokémon and there are no rule box Pokémon allowed, so everything is worth one prize at a time. It’s incredible.

Unrelated to the pokemon card game but you just gave me a total nostalgia flashback. Wanting to catch my own Darkrai in Pokemon Platinum as a kid was really important to me but the official event was over before I even owned the game so I begged my mom for weeks to get me an action replay until she eventually gave in. Once I got it I had to type in the event cheat code from a sticky note that my friend got me because we didn't even have internet at home back then. Catching it took extremely long as well but when I finally caught it, it was easily my all time favorite pokemon from that day on.

Been finally getting into PTCG with Live after a lifetime of having it on my peripheral vision and I'm liking it a lot, but it really does feel like coming late to a game that's been heavily powercreeped in a very noticeable way. Pretty fun but I would have loved to play an older/slower version of it. Ironically the Live client feels so cheap It's like I'm playing a game from the 2000s

Wonders is such a fun format Right now. I didn’t even play hs when these expensions where in standard, so I’m not nostalgia biased it’s just that fun.

I had a huge collection of Pokémon cards when I was a kid, and to this day I have zero clue how the card game is played. I do t think it even occurred to me that you could DO anything with the cards, apart from look at them. Also I got the collectible mew card from the first Pokémon movie, and I snuck it into my dad’s safe as I was convinced it would be worth a fortune. I wonder if it is still in there…..

I will say that as someone who was playing in the good ol days of end of DPPT through the XY Era, the start of BW was when 'you kill in 1' was becoming big. First it was Reshiboar and then Elekkrom both using choice belt to eke out to the exact 130s needed, then CoKE (Cobalion/Kyurem/Electrode toolbox) which utilized popping Electrode Prime to put rainbow energy onto your toolbox of mons who would go for ohkos using type advantage, Then EXs dropped and Mewtwo EX was a MONSTER with X-Ball being a 2 colorless attack that dealt 20x the number of energy on it and the opposing mon and thus being a KO Fest. Somewhere in there we got some defensive strats, but mostly around safeguard (allowing you to not take damage from basic pokemon), but then when XY rolled around again, we got Mewtwo 2.0 in Yveltal EX; having the same attack but being a dark and a colorless and being 20+(20xenergies on both mons), which was abusing Prism Energy alongside shadow cloak darkrai EX (giving free retreats), and virizion ex (giving status immunity) and Aromatisse for the ability to energy transfer your fairy (and by extension PRISM energy).
